Re: Loose throttle housing

Both my left and right housings have that looseness.
Hasn't really bothered me so far.
But when I get around to taking them off, I'll come up
with a fix for it.

Re: 95 GL1500 SE left inner saddlebag

Use a heat gun to shape the patch.
Or do it in several pieces.
Wear gloves so you don't burn your hands.
That plastic gets really hot as it softens.

Re: 95 GL1500 SE left inner saddlebag

Have you considered making a new floor for the bag? If it's just the floor, it won't be seen unless someone was laying on the ground next to the bike. Get a sheet of ABS plastic from Amazon. Cut the hole in the bottom of the bag to be rectangular. Cut the new ABS slightly oversize and glue it in wit...

Also remember that anything you mount back there will probably have to be removed if you want to change the rear tire. These bikes are hard enough to change the tire on without adding more complexity to the project.

Re: Just a funny observation

Over the last 50 years, I've hauled home some weird loads.
Eight foot 2x4s, gallons of paint, a complete bookshelf sized
home stereo system, and the best, a three foot by five foot
painting of the NYC skyline that I bought as a gift to
my mother!!!
LOL!!!

Re: Rivco Air Horns (Video)

Who said they have to be in front? I'll have to look, I'll bet I can hide them somewhere under the rear bags.... When I got my 1500, it had Rivco horns mounted under the right saddlebag.....and they were all beat up and ground down on the bottom from hitting the pavement when the bike was le...

My solution: I wear contact lenses for riding. :)
I'm with you on this.
I got contacts waaaay back in 1974. I've been wearing them for so long that they are a part of me.
I used to get sore ears and nose bridge from glasses when I was young.
I absolutely HATED glasses.

Re: Intermittent bad ground?

Sorry this is a bit late, but..... I finally got around to pulling the seat and looking at the 21 pin connector in the plastic box. Sure enough, the ground wire was all burnt and had blackened the plastic plug. I installed a new ground wire parallel to old one in the box. The problem seems to be sol...

Re: clutch on 2000 goldwing and other maintenance

Synthetic oil WILL quiet down the "clunkiness" of the transmission on the GL1500. Many of us have used this Mobil 1 synthetic automotive oil in our GL1500's for years with great results (myself included). I've been using that oil in my 1500 since I got it. Just did an oil change yesterday with it. ...

1500 front wheel question

Does anyone know if the front wheel was the same on all 1500s?
I have '99 and I'm looking to get a spare front wheel. I see many
advertised on Ebay that say they are from earlier models.

What about the brake discs? are they the same for the front
of all years?

Thanks guys.

Re: long haul

I feel that the stock seat on my '99 is the most comfortable seat I've ever had on a bike.
I guess it all depends on the size and shape of your ass and how you fit the seat.

Re: Another windshield height question

Thanks for the measurement. When I did the quick estimate last night I thought I would be cutting about 6" off and I thought I must be way off, or maybe I had a lowered seat and didn't know it. But it looks like my final height would be somewhere around yours. How does your passenger fare with the ...

Re: Buffetting is driving me insane

I can verify what Oakback says.
I have a pickup truck with the slide-open rear window.
Air does not go OUT through that window.
It blows IN. And if you have any dirt or leaves in the
bed of the pickup truck, it all ends up in the cab, which
is why I rarely open that window.

Re: Another windshield height question

Skin, I'm about an inch shorter than you, and I ride a '99 SE. I cut the stock windshield down for the same reason, I like to look just over the top edge. Mine measures 14 1/4 inches from the black rubber to the top center of the shield. I find this to be just right for me. Of course I can raise it ...

Ernest, at the beginning of this thread, you refer to "the C-19 issue".
I've never heard of that before.
Can you explain exactly what it is?
I have a '99 1500 myself.
Thanks!

Re: Parts compatibility with '95 Goldwing

John, you beat me to it on those white gauges.
My '99 has those.
THEY SUCK!
And I was going to mention the driveline from the Valkyrie.
But I believe that the 88/89s had the final drive and drive shaft
from the 1200 that preceded it.

Re: A 1500 upgrade

No one has mentioned this.
Pull the rear wheel and the final drive unit and remove the drive shaft.
Lube all the splines with the proper high moly grease.
Also lube the splines on the rear wheel itself.
There is no doubt that whatever grease was in there has dried
up over the last 30 years.
