Re: Rebuilding an 88 GL1500
"I was swearing at this thing so hard lol" Reads like you have things well in hand! Swearing is usually the sign of a person who has graduated from throwing! LOL I think youf gonna have a very enjoyable bike when done. My general rule of thumb on any repair project is, the project is not ...

Re: SeaFoam Question
In the fuel, definitely.
When I got my 1500, it had been sitting for several years.
It wouldn't idle worth a darn.
A couple of cans of seafoam later, it idled perfectly, and still does.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but a fire hydrant?
You couldn't find something softer to hit?
Good luck getting the damage fixed.
Finding the parts will likely be the most difficult part.

Re: I Dumped My Bike! (VIDEO)
Been there. Done that. My 1500 is by far the heaviest bike I've ever owned. (or will ever own!) When I first got it, I must have dropped it 6 times. Luckily, no damage to the bike or me. I've since learned to control the beast and I love it!! U turns are still a pain, but I've gotten a lot better at...

Riddle me this, Batman...
Around here in northern New Jersey, the roads are riddled with manhole covers. Even on recently repaved roads, the damned covers are often set an inch or so below road level. I have to ride like a drunken sailor to avoid them...WHAM!...there's another manhole cover, dammit!! So riddle me this.... Ho...

Re: What a nice 2000
Very nice!! I ride a '99 with 111,000 miles on it. Still rides like a new bike. I'll never understand how someone can pay big money for a bike like these and then never ride it. Your bike has traveled less than 500 miles a year since it was new. There is a guy near me who also has a 2000 model. His ...

Re: Upgrading my 1500 LCD
Looks good. However, judging by the pics, it wouldn't work for me. Too much info for such a small display. I wouldn't be able to see it while riding. Lol. It's really not as tough to see as you may think. Some of the smaller numbers like air temp, humidity, and date you probably won't be looking at...

Re: Brightest LED headlight bulbs?
Late reply to the thread, but if the GL1500 uses H4 headlamps like my '99 Valkyrie does, take a look at Cyclops Ultra 10.0 H4 bulbs. Outrageously bright, great cutoff. And burns all 4 emitters on High beam. Well worth the $90 price, in my opinion. Especially if you live back in the hills and holler...

Tomorrow morning, I'll be going on my club's first ride of the season. And I'll be on my guard. First ride means everyone has been off for the winter. And, we have had a lot of new members join up since I last rode with the group, people I don't know and don't know how they ride. The club is mostly ...

Here in N.J., they did that to some of my favorite roads last summer, miles and miles of that crap.
When it gets hot, that stuff is like grease under the wheels.
The people who do that need to taken out there and staked out in the middle of the road 'til they are turned into road pizza.

My last one came from Lactrical.
Failed in only a year.
Just another piece of cheap chinese junk.

Re: The muffler chronicals
I guess I could if I could find a decent welder around here who would take the job.
But I'm guessing that anyone who could cut that section out and weld in a new piece would probably charge
me more than what I paid for replacement mufflers.

Re: Does anyone know what type of saddle bags these are?
They certainly look like Califia saddlebags. I should know. I still have a set of those on my old BMW sitting in the back of my shed. P.S. The rear crash bars and chrome saddlebag guards were part of the set, although I think you could buy the bags without the guards if you wanted to. https://www.th...

The muffler chronicals
Doing my pre-spring maintenance on my 1999 gl-1500. So I pulled everything off the rear to grease the splines on the driveshaft. When I pulled the mufflers off of the Goldwing, I found some rusted pin holes in the back side of the left muffler. Ya know, I thought the bike was sounding a bit louder w...

Re: Need suggestions for a quality alternator.
I've had two of the chinese ones fail.
In both cases, the oil seal on the shaft leaked motor oil into the alternator, which killed them.
I finally found an original Hitachi Honda alternator which I installed a year ago.
I'm holding my breath....

Re: Alternator not working
It's easy enough to get the alternator off. Just three bolts.
(don't ask me how I know this)
If you have to buy a new alternator, DO NOT buy one of the
many cheap Chinese ones out there. You'll only be replacing
it again in a very short time.
(don't ask how I know this either)

Re: GL1500 Bad Fuel Economy (25-30MPG)
I would say don't worry about it, until you get some more miles on it. Maybe run a can of Seafoam or two through the fuel system. While my 1500 does great on the highway, around town and small trips my mileage is like yours. These bikes are not known for mileage. At your altitude you are probably j...

Why not turn that old laptop into a Linux machine.
Linux is compatible with a lot of different things.
Put Linux Mint on the old laptop. It might read your
manual fine.
