Re: center stand

Hoi, had the same problem. The tube in frame for the center stand was corroded and twisted forward to about 45degrees. Riding the bike was realy weak at backend and on bad roads... The removable part of the frame was corroded, too I got a good frame for a total conversion. Cause for repairing that d...

Re: Removal and Install Starter Motor GL1100

Hoi, some info to the starter. You can improve its function with better ground. The ground from the plate with the brushes is made with the 3 metall noses of the plate. They are allways oxidized the counterpart in the housing to. - Polish the 3 noses and the parts in the housing and bend up a little...

Re: high temperature after few minutes

we do not have a new pope because of the white smoke...
Seems to be a blown headgasket.
To check that:
Does the white smoke smells sweet?
Are some bubbles int the coolant while engine is running?
Any loss of coolant?

Re: Turn signal cancelling

I got it! the brand new fuse 10A was fault. And all the flasher relais I had, too. The one I parted off my GL500 also, although it worked 2 hours before. New fuse, new flasher, all systems go. :D The wiring diagram helped me to make a checklist for the self cancelling system. If there is anyo...

Turn signal cancelling

Hi, I´ve some trouble with the turn signals on m y 1982 Interstate. After a conversion to another frame (rust rust) the only electric component that does´nt work are the turn signals. Bulbs are checked, getting crazy about that. I tried the flasher relai of my CX500, that is working very well, no re...

Re: 82 verses 83 gearing

I made that engine swap in spring 2014. 1980 engine into 1982 frame. No problem! But riding is a difference 1980 short 5th gear and the short final drive of 1982 gives a punch in accceleration, about 500 rpm mor in 5th gear at 120 km/h. Ridinng on narrow streets in germany now I can keep 4th gear wi...

Re: Engine noise and oil consumption

Seers folks, I´m for weeks wrenching my goldwing :D First I had to repair the centerstand. The link of the centerstand has turned to front with the years to an angle of 45degrees. So the tube of the frame was twisted and had some cracks on both sides. I turned it back as far as possible, welded the ...

Re: Engine noise and oil consumption

Thanks for your info. But I will not do a compression test, for me it is useless. I just decided to rebuilt the engine. Looking for another, better engine is difficult in germany, there are not as much Wings sold as in the US. So it will be a very fascinating time to remove the engine and dismantle ...

Engine noise and oil consumption

Seers, my Goldwing is new two me for this year. Normally I was riding a GL500 Silverwing. I have some questions now after a 1800km ride through the alps, including a non stop 700km ride home. - Is it normal that the engine runs smooth until 3500rpm and then begins to"hammer", but only while driving,...

Re: Progressive springs - centerstand modification

the bolts i used have a 19mm hexagon, so that´s big enough for the pressure of the weight. I was messuring the Honda solution, then used a little maths and my knowledge of statics and compared my idea to Honda. The contact areas are similar, so there will be no problem. Now I can also adjust the ang...

Progressive springs - centerstand modification

Seers, my GL110I got new progressive springs by Würth. Uuuh what a job! These springs were about 70mm longer than OEM and harder. Together with fork oil 20W it´s a front end like a racing, very good feeling and precision. But now the fork lifted about 25mm so the rear tire touches the ground and it ...

Re: Remember to visually inspect your tires WEEKLY!

Seers, one of the problems Metzler has in Germany, since they are producing in Brasil, too. The ME is not the best tire of Metzler, it is 1980´2 technology, now made in Brasil. The Metzeler Lasertec is realy better and there are no problems in quality I would prefer for my GoldWing the Bridgestone B...

Re: GL11000 Blue smoke

Seers, the engine got new liners on the left side. Did the bores get a honing? If not, the bores are to smooth, so there can be no film of oil for lubrication of the rings and pistons. This film is a kind of needed sealing together with the pistons . Without a very light raughness of the bores there...
