Re: Alternator Idiot Light

I have not seen an "Idiot Light" for a wing yet. You will need to go with a digital gauge like Joe is showing. I have the digital one from Electrical Connection. It is plug and play and is mounted behind the left speaker grill. It is always visible at a quick glance. https://electricalconnection.com...

Re: GL1500 (1993) RUST IN THE TANK

A syphon pump can found at Wal Mart, Harbor Freight, or your local auto parts store to remove the old fuel. For all of these methods of removing the rust, you will need to remove the tank. You need to dump everything out of the tank while flushing the crud out. The best way to do that is by turning ...

Re: 1991 GL1500 SE WITH only 2000 Mile on it.

And after you change the belts, turn the motor over by hand. Put a socket wrench on the crank bolt to turn it over. One of my first bikes sat for a long time. One of the valves stuck in the open position when I was turning it over by hand. If I would have used the starter, that valve would have been...

Re: Swapping 93 carb to 88 GL1500

On your 88 carb, by switching the main jet from a 50 to a 55 will solve the stumble. You do not need to replace the whole carb. My bike did not get the recall done back in the day. I just switched the jets and it solved the problem. The bike had no stumble at all after the switch. The only other thi...

Re: Is it time for a new battery?

6 years for a Oddssey is nothing. Mine is 8 years old and still going strong. I have even killed it twice by not turning the key off all the way. I drained it down in the ACC position. With keeping it on the maintainer, it should go at least 10 years. I normally get at least 8 years off a non Oddsse...

Re: Unavailable Turn Switch

My 88 did something similar. Take it apart and clean out the grease that is in there. When it get's old, it gets sticky and the switch will not move like it should. Get some Dielectric Grease from your local auto parts store. It is in a small tube. Clean out the old grease, put in new, and you will ...

You will need to go to a business that deals with electronics to find one. Your best bet would be E Bay or Amaz...

Re: GLl1500 radio

I have an XM modulator. You un plug the bike radio antenna wire, plug in the XM modulator wire into the radio antenna jack, then plug the bike antenna into the modulator. There is a wire that then goes to the XM radio. I do not have to turn the modulator on or off. When set the radio to 88.5, it com...

Re: Fuel injectors cleaning?

I've done the seafoam thing on several units and it just never worked and honestly once I pulled the pilot jet out and ran a wire through it. I don't see how seafoam could have dissolved the clog? Once everything is at least running then I agree seafoam or anything else helps alot. I think the only...

Agree with Mh434. Any alternator shop should have one in stock and can put it in for you.

Re: Fuel injectors cleaning?

Instead of pulling the injectors, put some fresh fuel in and use Sea Foam for a couple of tanks. Use 2 oz. per gallon and do it for a couple of tanks. The ECM reset as Keith has described is also a good idea. See if that works.

Re: Question for those who have installed LActrical alternators

I have a 1988 1500 with 44,000 mi. I put a LAlectric alternator on it. When idling it makes a knocking sound. Has anyone else had this happen? I put a LAlectric on my 88 and it did the same thing even with new dampers installed. My OEM alternator just needed cleaning so I put it back in. I had the ...

Re: what tire to buy

Did Avon re design the Cobra yet? My rear blew out at 70 mph due to the tire separating. It only had about 7 K miles on it. Tire pressure was at 41 and the bike was not overloaded. The front was fine, but I get much better millage with a Bridgestone 709 then I did out of the Cobra front. Because of ...

I use a Ultraguard half cover when I travel. It has been a great cover for the past 4 years.

It can be very windy in SD. More than likely the bike would have been blown over with a half or a full cover!

Re: cleaning GL1500 Air compressor switches

I had the same problem with my 88. I tried to take the assembly apart, but the plastic is old enough and brittle, the holding tabs broke. I ended up getting a used one off E Bay and sprayed a bunch of CRC electrical contact cleaner in there to prevent the problem. So far so good. I would still try t...

I remember having the same problem if the tube you're talking about is the one at the right side front of the bike tube that goes into the air cleaner base..... Re: XM Radio Reception

The antenna on your 2012 is in the front of the bike under the front plastic just below the windshield. The radio is under the floor of the top trunk. When you open the trunk lid, you see the GPS. You have to remove the floor of the trunk and then you will find the radio. If you have a CB, it is loc...

Re: TPMS

I suspect it depends on how you have your tpms alarm settings setup. What do you run your tire pressures at cold? There are no alarm settings on a factory TPMS unit like there is on an aftermarket system. They are pre set and can not be changed. My 2012 did the same thing in the winter when I lived...

Re: XM Radio Reception

On your 2012, the radio is in the top trunk, not the fairing. Just the controls are in the fairing. An after market XM antenna is not plug and play for the Honda Radio. It will need some modification. Go to the GL1800Riders site. Do a search. There are all kinds of posts on changing the XM antenna. ...

When using a Mity Vac, you do not pull back the break lever. You hook up the vac, pump up some pressure on the vac, and open the bleeder. The fluid will be sucked out of the master cylinder fluid tank. Close the bleeder before you drain the tank and refill. Repeat if needed. Just make sure you do no...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Just a heads up on all of the hoses on the carb. All of the vacuum hoses for that mater. They are metric . You will not find these at your local auto parts store. Non metric hoses are either just a little to big, or just a little to small. The big ones can cause a leak over time, and the small ones ...
