I am going to be doing my head gaskets tomorrow and dude this is the best article I have found so far. Very impressed with all of this. thanks a ton on showing that there needs to be that little space by using the shim.

Well I have that part fixed. Now I believe I am going to have to replace my head gasket. I was riding hit the throttle and a ton of whitish smoke went all over and continued to go over. so I discovered after taking the starter apart that the bushing are pretty nargly so I have replaced them and the bushing plate. Big problem I have is that I have to solder the bushing plate to the starter since it doesnt have the connector to attach. Will the solder hold or should I just scrap it a...

OK so update. Motorcycle turned over and started for a little! Shut it off cause I have headers removed on side. Discovered I had a bad starter connection and fixed it. Did a rebuild on it and it works like w charm. Biggest part for me is just making sure I got everything mounted right. Thanks guys ...

I will do this today when I get home. I have to make sure I'm not hydro locked. I have a spare solenoid just in case and bushing plate with bushings so if I need to rebuild the starter its here. I am having a similar issue. I dont know how to bench test though. I am very GREEN on this topic and dont want to fry anything. My solenoid only clicks when I go to start it and I dont know what is up.
