Re: What Were The Worst Riding Conditions You Ever Experienced?

The worst for me happened a number of years ago, I was riding a Honda Shadow, no windshield and my helmet had no visor, just wearing sunglasses, I rode into a swarm of bees, needless to say I had bees in my helmet and my jacket and they were having a great time and I wasn't.

Re: What brand of AGM battery is best?

I'm going on my 3rd year with the Mobatt battery, so far no problems, it starts the 1800 up everytime. I use the MBTX20U, one of the reasons why I chose this battery is the Ah rating, it rated at 310 CCA and 21 Ah.

Re: First post lockdown run

I went for a ride on Friday, nice ride up to Applegate Dam, round trip is about 125 miles. My wife and I like to visit old cemeteries, we have one a few miles from us at Jacksonville. I kind find it sad when you find the gravestones of children from one family that died just days apart, makes one wo...

Re: Questions regarding "older" men and Goldwings

At 70 I'm still going strong and riding a GL1800 is a breeze, it handles really well even at low speeds. I had a Yamaha Venture Royal and at low speeds that thing handled like a tank and it was very much top heavy. My first Gold Wing I purchased in the early 80's and it was a 79 GL1000 fully dressed...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

I've always been a huge car enthusiast and all around gearhead, so when my school shut down due to COVID, I figured I should work on some sort of project to keep myself active. My parents refused to let me keep a car in their driveway, but after a little sweet talking, they said I would be able to ...

That "Wow! why did I wait so long" response is typical of those coming off of other bikes and riding a Gold Wing for the first time. Tell him congrats on the new to him Gold Wing and may he have many of enjoyable miles.

I installed a Motobatt in my 1800 a while back, had to replace the 7 year old battery that came with the bike. I sure can tell the difference in cranking speed upon start.

Typically the tinting of the electrode insulator is due to gas additives, but this should show up on all the plugs.

Re: Antenna

The plastic tip is to mitigate the puncture hazard and has no effect on static build up. A metal tip on the end of an antenna actually has a purpose - static dissipation. The air traveling across the ball is at a slightly different speed than the rest of the antenna and that difference of static po...

Re: Not riding? How do you keep yourself busy?

Yesterday I replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the air cleaner (it wasn't to dirty), today I'll put the bike back together (could Honda had made it more difficult to get to an air filter) and change the oil, damn, I'm looking forward to riding. We have a couple of trips planned, one is to Idaho Fa...

Re: How to price a bike for sale

A few years ago I was on a ride in Northern California, we stopped for lunch and parked in the parking lot was a 1997 GL1500 with a California Sidecar that was for sale, he was asking 5000.00. The bike is worth what someone will pay for it. I think that your asking price is a tad to high, the proble...

Hello from NE Indiana! I have been a lurker for some time now gathering info so I could make a better informed purchase. I purchased my retirement ride in the fall of last year. I retired in February from the Ft. Wayne Indiana Fire Dept with 24 1/2 years. Looking at the current situation our countr...

That looks just like the 79 GL1000 I had many many years ago. Are you planning on putting the fairing on it, that is if you can still find them.

Re: Not riding? How do you keep yourself busy?

I have my bike tore apart in the garage, doing maintenance before riding as soon as they life the "stay at home" request. At 70 years old I really don't want to take the chance of catching this virus. We adopted our grandchildren, ages 13 and 9, so we are busy home schooling them, my respect for tea...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

I had a ton of toy trains for sale on Craigslist as make offer for the whole lot. Got a bunch of insulting offers from the usual clowns. After a couple weeks of running the ad, I had an offer to trade the trains for a 2002 gl1800 straight across. That interested me to say the least. I had been an a...

It looks to me like this is a back rest from a 1500 modified for a F6B, I could be wrong, but like you I couldn't find a F6B back rest that looks like this. If you look at the attached link, the shape of this back rest is the same as in your pictures. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Honda-Passenger-Bac...

My last battery was the MotoBat and it performs very well. I suspicion it came off the same assembly line as the others. just has a different label on the side of it. AZ, your going to have to admit you bought the Motobatt because it matches the color of the bike and trailer, Right! I use the Motob...

I don't know if you found your answer yet, the VIN is also stamped on the right side of the steering head. You can find it by shinning a flashlight up the right side where the forks come down, it is stamped on the aluminum steering head.

Re: Stopping oil leaks with an additive?

There is a seal conditioner called AT-205 Re-seal, I've used it on my old pickup that had a rear main seal leaking, it stopped the leak, it been a little over a year and 4 oil changes later, and still no leak. They claim it has no petroleum distillates, that is softens the rubber. All I know is they...
