Re: Kick Starter

Tried a hot battery but the engine turns over real slow like something is holding it back.
I think maybe something in the kick starter is dragging.
Like you mentioned I'll have to pull the engine to find the problem.
Thanks for the info.

GWRRA Front License Plates

Found these plates while going thru one of my storage boxes.
Not a member of GWRRA so maybe someone else might like to have one of them.
I plan on keeping one for the wall of my workshop.
I'll sell the other for $10.00 plus shipping.

Kick Starter

I have a 1975 Wing that I am restoring. During these winter months I put oil in the cylinders and turn the engine over once in a while using the kick starter. While doing this a week or so back the kick lever acted like it slipped off a cog and now it is stuck in the down position. It won't return t...

Re: LOTS OF GL 1000 AND 1100 PARTS FOR SALE

Noticed in your original post you listed a "Vetter Pigtail"
If it's for the fairing I would like to buy it.

Re: LOTS OF GL 1000 AND 1100 PARTS FOR SALE

Looking for a passenger backrest, not a sissy bar.
The OEM type that was short and squared off with a pad attached.
Don't need the pad if not available. I can make one.

Checked the Rock Auto parts list and could not find the T274 parts number.
Wasn't sure where to look.

Didn't know that.
It was in the trunk when I bought my 89.
Guess the word "assume" did it again.

Re: timing belts

Thanks for the conformation of my thoughts.
I found a post with some aftermarket belts.
Can I assume these have been used by members with no problems.
I think the numbers were for Gates, NAPA and Goodyear.

timing belts

I'm rebuilding a 75 Wing that has been in storage for 8/10 years. The timing belts were installed and only about 50 miles were driven before storage. With the age on them I was wondering if they are still serviceable? I don't mind the cost of new ones but how could I be assured the replacements are ...

1975 GL1000 Gold Wing Could someone send me a good close-up picture of the battery box and surrounding area without the battery installed. I am in the process of putting the pieces back together and have lost the picture I had. The service manual is not much help. The wiring is pretty straight forwa...

Re: Siezed Engine

I think the problem with your kick starter is a separate issue. Mine is also stuck/inoperable, but the bike starts and runs great otherwise. Have you tried carefully hooking up jumper cables and spinning it over with the electric starter? Ron This was suggested to me by another person so I think I'...

Worth a try.

Re: Siezed Engine

I used a 50/50 mixture of trans fluid and acetone which freed the engine. When I turn the wheel I can feel the compression stroke even with the plugs out. I've had the clutch plates stick when a bike is stored over the winter but was able to free them with the starter. The Wing is not running at thi...

Well with some info from the members here it is now turning over with the tranny in 5th gear and using the rear wheel but.............. With the tranny in neutral, when I try to turn the engine over with the kick start lever it won't ...
