Re: Handlebars
Your limitation is going to be the Hydraulic hoses and the throttle cables. Impossible, no, difficult, yes. You maybe able to find someone to make you new hoses and cables, but it will not be cheap. I put custom bars on my 84, but they are fully adjustable and I was able to adjust them to get the ca...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.
Well, it is deep in the bowls of the beast. With the plastics removed from the lower front of the bike you will see the 2 radiators. In-between the 2 radiators in the main down tube. Behind that tube about 4in on the very top of the engine is the T-Stat housing. You will see the upper radiator hose ...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.
My first bike back in about 1994 was a 1979 Honda CM400A. What a fantastic bike. The Auto was a bit different, but lots of fun. I have been looking for a CM400 for years and just can’t find one. Glad you got one, it will be fun.

Re: How much could I safely lift a 1200?
The bike has been stripped naked. I have a 1100 tank, small round headlight and LED signals. There is little else I can remove from this bike. The goal is to use it on light off road situations. However, I have kind of changed my mind on this and I am not sure I want to go that route anymore. The pl...

Re: Is the Goldwing the best bike you have ever ridden?
I still have a 1984 GW that is being stripped to a standard, my regular ride is now a BMW R1100RT. Is it the best bike ever, maybe not, but it sure is a lot of fun. It handles like a sport bike and has a ton of luggage space. I sold my 96 1500SE t get it and I have not been sorry. I just could not m...

FREE 89 GL1500 parts bike Yakima Wa.
I have a free 89 GL1500 parts bike. Please understand that this is not a restorable bike, it is not a rideable bike, you will not fix it up and ride off into the sunset, it is parts only. As such, it has no title. It is partly disassembled. All the fairings and plastics are off, the forks and front ...

Its gone, my 96 1500 SE
I bought my 1996 Goldwing SE last year in the fall. I rode it a while before the season ended and struggled with it a bit. Then spring came and I pulled it out of storage and started to ride again and still I struggled with the bike. It just did not handle like I think it should. It had a fork brace...

Re: Cable panel keepers.
BMW missed the boat on that one. They were hard to remove when new, but as time goes on and things wear out, they did not require as much effort to get them to fall off. Looks like Honda for the win on this one.

Re: Cable panel keepers.
I will do new grommets, but I have one each nub that is broken off each panel. I think I have the broken parts to glue back on, but these keep them there in the mean time.
I have also found that if I put my feet up on the hwy pegs, the panels get sucked off due to the change in air flow.

Cable panel keepers.
I am sure I can't be the first person to think of such a thing, and I admit I kind of stole the idea from the BMW guys. On the K1200LT the mirrors are held on with spring clips and ball mounts. If you hit a really hard bump, knock it against something or hit it while backing up, the mirror falls off...

Re: Speaking of Austone Taxi Tires....
Took the bike for a ride today about 35 miles. I noticed at times I could hear a faint rub. Stopped to check and couldn't see anything so waited until I got home to really get under the bike. I noticed shiny plastic on the right saddlebag. Eyeballing the clearance the left has about 3/8" more ...

I can tell you for sure if they fit a 1200, they fit a 1500. I have 1500 coil shocks on my 1200 right now. They fit, but I need to do something else, they are too stiff. I think, but not 100% sure that the 1100 is the same as the 1200. Length is the only thing.

Re: Lowering suspension
I posted this in another spot too, but as stated the stock shock is 13.42in. You can still buy Progressive 416 air shocks in other sizes like 13in, 12.6in, etc. 13in would give you .42in drop right off, and then you could adjust a little lower if needed.Maybe not the best option, but it is an option...

Re: Air Shocks
I know that the ones built for the Goldwing are not available anymore. They were 13.42in long. However, Amazon has some that are 14in and some that are 13in. If you really want 416's, this may be the only option to get new 416 shocks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GS1EJC/ref=psdc_404687011_t1_B000GS...

Re: Speaking of Austone Taxi Tires....
Yes, That is why I prefaced my statement with the fact that it is most likely my fault. I know that the first mistake I made was to buy this bike. I had expectations of it that were unreasonable for it, and I know that now. You can't make a 85 Buick handle like a Porsche. Because all the magazines a...

I know this may sound crazy, but I have used Pledge furniture polish. You spray it on, rub it around, let it dry a little and then polish it off. It also works good to shed water like RainX

Here are the specs of the Austone tire compared to the Sunfull tire and some pics of mine off the rim and when I mounted it on the rim. Will be mounting this on the GL1500 on Tuesday . Hopefully the weather will cool a bit down here in Florida. I have the tire next to a Federal Formoza as I had a n...

I agree, trim it, put in a vent. It will be a whole new experience. They should have had vents factory. Now most big touring bikes have vents or slots at the base of the screen. We learn things as time goes on.

The Aspencade fairing will have more stuff inside it and will most likely require you to swap the harness. Only way to know for sure would be to look at the wiring diagram.

Re: GL1500A LCD replacement
The fact that it says it fits 88-2000 worries me a bit. I would have to assume it is just the "screen" and nothing else, because they were different between the early and late ones.

Re: Superbrace -> massive stiction
I have one on my bike and I do not have that issue. It sounds like the brace may be pushing out or pulling in on the forks causing them to stick. I would pull it off and check for dirt, corrosion, etc. under the brace. Could there be other Burrs or machining issues, maybe a chamfer that was not done...

Thank you for the replies. I am going to leave the alternator for now. I am putting the bike up for sale and I just want to make sure that everything is good for the new owner. I have had this bike almost a year, I just came back from a ride to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, over 2000 miles...
