Re: Front Brakes, fully rebuilt no pressure.
I’ll give that shot tomorrow and update if it that works! Definitely no leak in the lines. Good chance they are original or at least 20+ years old. Your hose are dry and cracking but you want to ride!?!? Are you nuts? Sorry can't help but say that! Get a set of braided front lines. Believe me they ...

Re: Breaking News: Honda Discontinues the Goldwing!?!
Why not just make them in the US again, on a limited scale, and get back in Marysville Motorcycle Plant? The US market has to account for enough sales to justify some variation or scale of this option. It would cost too much to move the plant back for only the US market. Cheaper to keep making them...

Re: Breaking News: Honda Discontinues the Goldwing!?!
Every country will adapt to change at a different rate, dependent on a great many factors. But the change WILL happen. I'm as much a petrolhead as anyone on here and I hate to think of the demise of all the incredible engineering that has gone into our ICE vehicles, but I'm also a realist. The horse...

Re: Breaking News: Honda Discontinues the Goldwing!?!
But isn't dispersing more charging stations on the existing overloaded grid akin to building more petrol pumps without drilling and pipelines? I, for one, would feel better about the market driving need rather than short sighted bureaucratic mandates being shoved down our collective throats. That i...

Re: Breaking News: Honda Discontinues the Goldwing!?!
In this side of the Pond, UK and Europe have very strigent emission standards. Many cities have exclusion zones whereby you pay a toll to use an ICE vehicle unless it complies the current Euro regulation (currently Euro6). Even tougher regs are coming in the 2025 Euro7 version. Diesel vehicles sales...

Re: New H4 LED Headlight
Most of the members of this site are apparently US based, but I'm sure there are others like me that live in other countries. So for those of you that drive on the left like here in the UK, here is a source of left-dip LED headlight bulbs. Paul has been running his business for a great many years an...

I might try the fork brace at some point, but I hate to put anything on this bike that’s not factory. If I discover a solution to this problem, I’ll certainly post it here. 06774D61-B9F0-4F5A-970C-7E0771D96BE1.jpeg The front forks on the GL1000 are not the best, especially if you are comparing them...

Re: GL1000 Fuel System questions
My best guess is that your small filter was filling right up because there was a restriction in the lines after it. So blowing out the lines and main filter you ended that restriction. Fuel lines can and do collapse inside. You maybe should change them out. I would also be checking the small micro f...

Re: GL1000 Fuel System questions
Why do you think it needs to be full, at any time? Are you saying that the bike is not running well? Does it feel like it's starving when you are out on it? If so, first try opening the fuel cap as the vent in that may be blocked.

Re: Steering Dampner?
You should not be getting shakes and wobbles at any speed. If you do, there is something wrong. Fitting a steering damper will only mask a problem that in all probability will bite you (and maybe your wife) severely. Check tyre wear and cupping, tyre pressures, wheel bearings front and rear, steerin...

Re: BattleAx: "New" BT-46 vs "old" BT-45
I had BT45's on my 76 GL1000 and hated the feel of the front. It seemed to want to 'fall' into corners much more than I was comfortable with. It started cupping after a long tour (6800 miles in 6 weeks!) at about 8k miles so I swapped both out for Shinko Tourmaster 230. They made a huge difference t...

Re: Adjusting The Clutch On A '76 LTD
First, did the handlebar clutch lever operate the clutch before you changed the cable? Or more to the point, why did you change the cable? If not, the cable is not the problem. Disconnect it from the operating lever and try to move the lever, in either direction. If you can backwards a fraction that...

Hi Scott, First, thank you for all your hard work. I feel your pain though, for the following reasons. My Wingovations.com site was started back in 2009, hosted by Moonfruit on a then relativly innovative Flash based drag-and-drop. I had absolutely zero knowledge of how to do this, but through sheer...

Re: Gl1000 drive shaft
The biggest difference is the in the Universal Joint. Because the 1100 frame is longer at that point, the engine side of the joint is longer to accomodate that difference.

Re: 1100 starter into 1200?
As far as I'm aware, the '84 starter is a one year only part. I know the later 1200 starters don't fit neither do the 1100 or 1000 units. Best route is to take it to somewhere that does rebuild/rewinds, although these are getting scarce these days.

Re: Oil and water pump
If you have the time, you might as well take yours apart and find out what is wrong with it. You've got nothing to lose. If the condition is ok and you can repair the problem, that would be great. If not, you can still look for another engine. Well, that's a point if you have the mechanical knowled...

Re: Oil and water pump
If the water pump drive shaft won't turn, you have NO alternative but to pull the engine out and strip the rear cover off. It sounds just like I have described above; either the scavenge pump is locked up or the drive chain has snapped, or both. No further diagnosis is possible with the engine in th...

Re: Oil and water pump
The water pump shaft is driven through the scavenge pump. The drive part in that pump can split and wreck the scavenge pump. First move is to remove the front transmission cover and water pump, then see if the shaft will turn. If not, the water pump is the problem; if it does either scavenge pump p...

Re: Retorquing a head Torque specs?
At a guess, you have two chances of a retorque fixing the problem; none and bugger all.
Going to have to pull the head and change the gasket.
When replacing the head, Moly grease the main bolt theads and under the heads, incrementally tighten to 45ft/lbs.
