Re: Man, what a noise!!!

What's funny is that I was told that they don't see a lot of failures in the transmission but I was told that the last week my bike was in there, they had another one that was a total tear down. Apparently a little more common than Honda wants to admit. Thank you Greg. I hope to not have any more is...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!! I got the bike back today. Shifts like butter. It was done totally under warranty and I am so very pleased with the service. The work was done at Everett Powersports in Everett, WA. I left that info out of the previous posts just because I didn't want to advertise one way or the oth...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

I have had numerous conversations with the dealer over the last month or so. The latest was today. Was a good conversation and they are taking care of business. The bike was repaired and they were going through it with a fine toothed comb to make sure everything was correct. Guess they took it out o...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

The 'double' part wouldn't be an issue as that is a rear MC tire on the front, but still a MC tire. The dealer that has the bike actually does CT installs on MC rims so I doubt they would kick that back either. They have checked the bike in and didn't say anything so I am not really concerned. It's ...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

Had a long chat with the service manager at the local Mother Honda today. Sounds like things are looking up for the repairs. He soothed my concerned pocketbook and we worked out a plan. Still a couple potential road blocks but sounds like it is warrantable. His opinion is that the only reason 5th ge...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

The symptoms are pretty obvious. When you put it into 5th gear, there is absolutely none. There's a little bit of a grind, and then it just has nothing. If they miss it it's because they do not want to do any repairs on it. And they would have to be blind and deaf to miss it.

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

The bike still drives... just doesn't have a 5th gear to speak of. I am still running it on local stuff and will continue to do so. I am also going to start fishing for a dealer to look at it once I can come up for air. My only real concern in a dealer repair, if I can find one to do it under warran...

Re: TIPS IF STRIPPING YOUR 1800 ENGINE.

I will be having to do the same but mine is not rocks, it is 5th gear debris. That gear took leave and that means trans rebuild. Thanks for the heads up and I will make sure to take lots of pics and video and maybe create a Readers Digest version of a YouTube video for the process. If for nothing el...

Man, what a noise!!!

I got my nice new helmet and freshly installed a new Sena 30k in it. Jumped on the bike and headed out on the freeway enjoying the tunes when the bike stuttered. Like a single cylinder misfire. Caught me a little off guard but i passed it off. Did it again and then all of a sudden started grinding l...

Re: LED Headlight replacement: all 4 now or just low beams?

It's all a matter of perspective. It takes way more work to replace the high beams but it isn't a horrible job. I work on.busses for a living and I'd take a dozen high beam replacements over most any bus repair. The lows go in pretty easy and the boost converter box can be stuck to the speaker tubes...

Re: 1800 does not want to downshift

I got into it during the latest sun thing... it's bright and orange but I still think it's a UFO because we don't ever get the sun in these parts :o I pulled the cowl and exhaust cover off. Its painfully apparent how ugly the last 2 winters have been as the salt and de-icer has wrecked havoc on all ...

Re: 1800 does not want to downshift

I think I have definitively confirmed the why. Now I just need to figure out the how. I got on the bike today to ride to work... we have sun for the first time in over 25 days!!!! and I stepped on the shifter to pop it into neutral and it went down but wouldn't come back up. I could pull it with my ...

Re: 1800 does not want to downshift

The oil I used in the last change was A Honda branded m/c oil bought from the local Honda dealer. I am leaning towards the shift linkage bonding as it has never been cleaned or lined. I am in a holding pattern at the moment as I need to come up with space and time to address it. The priorities list ...

Re: 1800 does not want to downshift

Interesting. Now that I think of it, I used a different brand of oil than usual on the last change. It has been 1000 miles or so and it won’t kill me to change it again. Worth a try.

No. That is the next step. I am in the middle of moving out of a project house and onto property so I have no place to work on anything. Was hoping someone had been into that area of the bike that could shed some light on it. This is what my shop looks like. Both cans are full btw... 2189A9BF-1F62-4...

Re: 1800 does not want to downshift

It’s not speed related. I drive big rigs so I clutch and downshift every gear and I don’t try to drop it to first until I am almost stopped. Problem is that I can’t get to first. I start downshifting and try to put it in third from fourth at any speed and it doesn’t want to go. High rpm, low rpm, ro...

1800 does not want to downshift

My 2012 1800 has started an annoying and presumably terminal shift issue. I can easily runt the gears up to 5th and back down to 4th but to get lower than that I have to quickly bang it up a gear and then bang it back down. Not violently but with more force than I am comfortable with. The shifter fe...

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

IMG_0130.JPG Well, the coldest I rode last year was 18 degrees F. Didn't have a problem staying warm with my gear but the roads were sketchy as frig and the best of it was what was showed in the picture. There was no snow when I left home but when I got off the ferry on the Seattle side of the comm...

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

It's good to see the old poorly designed transmission go away but the are no SO MUCH more electronics to fail. I know... as is with all new tech vehicles. But that means with each module it is going to be a stack of Benji's to fix it. I also see no point in keeping the top end gear ratio the same bu...

You only need one. There come as a set and there is a left and right wired strip in the package. It is relatively obvious which is which. And if not, power up the strip to make sure you know which way the lighting faces.

Re: GL1800 Oil Filter Protection

I don't have a belly pan on my ride and have lost 2 oil filters due to road debris. Should probably have a belly pan :) but I don't... yet. A filter sleeve might have saved me those other 2 times though.
