Re: How to replace your cruise and sub air filters

I just replaced the sub and cruise filters, using this site and picture 59, "Replace the studs on the sides of the fairing rear lower covers." was by far the most difficult task. More than an hour for putting in 2 studs. I had the right side off and on 3 times, thinking that I didn't get the cruise ...

Re: 98 GL1500 OD light, Fuel Guage, Temp Guage Not Working

Are fuse #8 and relay #3 the same ones I need to look at for the same components listed above, and including instrument lights and tail lights. Noticed the loss of the OD light while exiting a town in ND this past Sunday, then the two gauges later, then the dash and tail lights during dusk in Minnea...

Re: How to replace your cornering light bulbs Part 2

Yes, the green wire on both of the relays. My problem arose because I was looking for the C70 and the C96 relay designators (like on the print) but didn't see them. So, since I don't do mess with electricity beyond changing wall outlets covers, I wasn't going to cut any wires. I always enlis...

Re: How to replace your cornering light bulbs Part 2

Hi all again, My Electrical Engineer brother stopped by for the New Year and is much better at reading the Corning Light Circuit on the "How to replace your cornering light bulbs" DIY sight and was, with confidence, able to cut the green wire, to make the ligths stay on all the time. Looks good. So ...

Re: How to replace your cornering light bulbs Part 2

Hi all, I had purchased the Cyclemax SCML50WC bulbs back in Sep 16, and they were not a direct relacement. Maybe it is with the -2 number that shows up when ordering now, because those bulbs look like they have the 3 tab base already on them. Mine was the big odd-ball bulbs and I needed to clean out...

I've had my XS1100 shipped twice, once each way. Once I put it in a U-haul truck (with help, 4 people), and another time I had a brother ride it for me, and yes I paid his way.

Re: 1500. vacuum lines

Thank you. I'll try and put this task a little higher on the priority list. Also, can my vacuum leak be causing harder starts when the bike sits for a couple weeks? Is this a related problem , or do I need to look elsewhere?

Re: 1500. vacuum lines

WA, that se picture is just plain scary. Would you happen to have a picture for a 1996? When I set my cruise on 80 mph, it falls down to 76 and then holds firmly. I'm thinking, I need to check my vacuum lines for deterioration. Also, where would be a good place to start? ;)

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

I started riding minibikes about 7 or 8 and rode it several years, until it got stolen. Then it wasn't until I joined the military and got stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota. Didn't have a vehicle right off, and a civilian employee was selling a Yamaha 650 with about 7000 miles on it. After ridin...

Re: Cleveland Motorcycle Show 2015

WA, another fine post of the CMS 2015. I just happened to text one of my brothers living in Vermillon, Ohio while he and his oldest son, were on their way home. He used to own a Honda CB900, years ago. He has sadly moved into the Harley field with his oldest son, and they both make noise down the ro...

Re: What's on your winter to-do list?

Just went out for the 'second ride' with my wife, all the kids (6) have been on multiple trips. She is not a fan of dipping down to see into one of the side mirrors :( , for checking her hair. So, for the 'second' time, she mentioned it would be nice to have a mirrior attached to the inside of the t...

Re: Opinion on windshield vents

I've done most of my riding without a vent, for years. :( Now that I am in possession of my first Goldwing, with a vent I might add, I have enjoyed the use of it on every ride so far. :P I too, have caught a bug in the vent, which had splated my shirt. That screen sounds like a good idea Mh43...

Re: That horrible CRUNCH sound

Glad you were spared disaster, there are many on this forum that would miss you, but not as much as your family would. I've only had one close call like that. No crunch, but a lot of tire squealing. I was in the left lane waiting to make a left turn, on a four lane main road, to head home after work...

Wow guys, that blue is a nice looking color.

A group of 6 bikes were pretty close to your neighborhood on July 26th. Went to Guthrie, Stables Cafe. Good eats. Ponca City, Rusty Barrel is our next stop. Probably Sep.

I haven't changed my cornering lights to driving lights yet, but some day I'd like to. What I've come across in this forum is found under "cornering to driving lamps", type this into the search window in the "GL1500 Information and Questions" board index and see if this is what you're looking for. Re: electrical issues, (1996 GL1500SE)

I waited the five more days and started the bike with no issues again. It sure would be nice if all it took was a battery. Thanks for the battery post artgrantz. Thanks for all the other posts. Does anybody have any preferences over Helm, Haynes, or Clymers service manuals. Or any others that I'm no...

I’ve purchased a new battery and installed it Thursday and the bike started right up with no issues. I waited until Monday night (4 days) to see if it would fail again. It started without issues. I put it back in the garage and will wait until Saturday before I try and start it again for another tes...

Re: electrical issues, (1996 GL1500SE)

Finally got the fuses looked at and ohm'ed out good for continuity, all checked good. Checked the relays (left side, under seat and in front of the battery), found all the brass tabs to have 100 ohms and the copper tabs to be open except for the "position" relay, which read closed. I swapped "igniti...

electrical issues

I've recently purchased a 1996 GL1500SE with approximately 81,000 miles on it. It has some electrical problems I've come across. 1) The battery will discharge if the key is removed in the OFF position, but will not discharge when the key is removed in the LOCK position. So, the LOCK position is alwa...
