Re: GL1500 retaining strap
Rudys panel keepers are really nice. Coming up with something diy and similar would be great. You might want to look into replacing your grommets first and see if that doesn't give an improvement. The ones I replaced are so snug now it takes a good pull to get the side covers off for maintenance. Th...

Re: Electric adjustable windshield ???
I thought someone came up with something for a 1500 a long time ago. It was before adjustable windshields were starting to become popular on factory bikes I think. Electric adjustable windshields are awesome. Every time I ride a bike that has it I just think they are great. Not sure about a diy proj...

I dont like looking thru the windshield either. You could check to see if the windshield could go down some more.

Re: Buffetting is driving me insane
I was just posting a link for Fatboy46 who asked about them. I dont know anybody who owns one and dont have one myself. Haven't seen one in person either, just in videos and photos. I'm really not understanding why these would help with wind on the passenger either. Below is the only video I could f...

Re: Buffetting is driving me insane
a friend has an 1800 Trike.. the passenger has a small screen behind the headrest to help with buffeting.. but I haven't been able to find one for a 1500... If you look on ebay you may still find them available for a 1500. Its just a guess but due to there age they might not sell so many for 1500s....

Re: Red or blue threadlocker
Just used some blue stuff liberally on a spare tire bolts on a Ural. Apparently they had some white stuff that was a little difficult to break loose and bolts were a softer steel (might replace these out) Have heard that red stuff just needs heated to loosen but never tried it. When I replaced those...

If you can get a hold of the upgraded parts that would be a bonus. Watched a video a long while ago of someone rebuilding a 1500 engine. Was fascinating to watch. So many things happening inside. Good luck with your project.

33 avg, 39 best. Even though roads here have a lot of bends and its very hilly those are the roads I seem to get the best mileage on. Rough back country roads.

Re: brake bleeding lots of air
I like to bleed brakes the old school way into a bottle up higher. Recently I tried reverse bleeding just to see if it did any better. It was ok. For a motorcycle benchbleeding, regular old style bleeding the caliper into a bottle and then put something on the brake pedal over nite, sometimes 2 if y...

Re: Buffetting is driving me insane
Your just a tall rider and your head is right in that turbulence even with the windshield up there. The top of the windshield is probably around the height of you chin or throat? It should be around the bridge of your nose. Sounds like your trying the right things, one of those extenders might work ...

Was sorry to hear of his passing. While it was available I bought a bunch of the panel keepers. Something I noticed was when I replaced the old rubber grommets the panels are very secure after. Its hard to pull the tupperware off the bike.

Re: Commander III tires
It is a little foggy on commander tires I was lookin at those too. They used to be rated for goldwings then not even though I'm not sure they changed anything. Some people do run them and like them. I prefered Avon Venoms but then they quit makin those too. Now I'm running Avon Cobras and they feel ...

Yes to both. You might find the slave is the worse of the two. Its not unusual for this to happen they just occasionally need cleaned up/rebuilt.

When I rebuilt my brakes and the system was empty I used a mityvac too just to get some fluid into the lines. Bench bleeding the master cylinder got rid of the extra air. Good luck with your brakes!

Re: Added a 2nd bike.. sorta
I've always thought Urals were super cool. Saw one for the first time in a retail store in a high end shopping mall (totally random) and I was blown away. They've been kinda on my radar since then, just never wanted to pony up for the cost! Maybe one day I'll add one to my garage. They are fun to r...

Also used mothers aluminum polish as well and lots of elbow grease. Polished up its been holding up well. Polished aluminum has a certain quality to it that makes it look amazing. Next time I'd like to get a little help from a machine to polish.

Re: Rear Shock
I took my bike to Hagon's (In the UK) who used my 1990 Wing to develop a rear shock. The air bladder is retained and I love it. They can be found at http://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/ but, for some reason, they don't list the 1500. They are very helpful people though. Could somebody buy this and do a q...

I think they call it naugahyde but yea its vinyl. Been using a vinyl car interior cleaner and conditioner with the UV stuff in it. It might be meguirs.
