Re: Dreaded rear tire replacement, the exhaust saga

Its just a guess but I'd think it might be to equalize the backpressure.

On the other end there is a nut that holds the cable to the lower cover.

Re: Lower cowl deflectors

Yep thats a tough one. I'm only 5'11" and have the same highway boards. For me its the end of the engine guard hoop that forces my feet wider. Some people have cut there own engine guards and plugged the ends. I thought about buying replacement new style engine guards and going with some kind of oth...

Re: Removing body panel to remove header

There is a nut on the cable where it connects to the panel. If you loosen that up it should give you enough slack to take the cable off. When I did it I just left it attached and held the panel back out of the way. I didn't want to mess with having to adjust the cable to get the vent door correct. I...

Re: Lower cowl deflectors

I recall they did make short ones that didn't stick out so far. Can't recall who made them and it was awhile back. I guess its true what they say.... memory is the first to go! :) Is that what they used to say?

Re: Tire choices for my 1500

I had the bad experience with E3s. Its made me a little skeptical to try E4s. Avons on the other hand have been real good for my bike. :)

Re: Dreaded rear tire replacement, the exhaust saga

Taking off the manifold wasn't too hard but I broke one of the studs right off. Mine were a little crusty. Waited weeks to get replacement parts. If you take your header off dont forget to order new donuts. :D 26029849428_86a023e997_b.jpg 25031175767_0eded65f59_b.jpg MjAzMjEzMQ-f25f08a3.png

Re: T_Birdman's '93 after-accident repairs

Looks like she's well underway to being a better bike than before the wreck! The Fairing has cracks on both sides, the impact was on the right side and the side shelter cover was broken in a few places, the lower fairing cowl on the right had cracks and the right saddlebag lid is cracked and slight...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

I dont know what the fuss is with the gl1500. Yes, you have to remove a lot of stuff to get to things, but it really is not that time consuming. The biggest lesson i learned after a while was that the more components you remove to make room and make your job more comfortable, the less of a pain in ...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

The place where I take my goldwing to get inspected always says the same ominous warning to me. "its so old we probably can't get parts to fix it if we find something wrong!" Which I find just a little amusing the way they say it every time (my bikes are well maintained). The people working there re...

Re: Added a 2nd bike.. sorta

Its a Ural, russian sidecar motorcycle.

For the 2wd there is a driveshaft from the final drive to the sidecar wheel can be engaged or disengaged by a lever.

A 2wd dirt bike sounds intense.

Re: Tire pressure on Dunlop Elite 3's

When I bought my bike it came with E3's and I switched to Venoms (now running on Cobras). Sounds like a good balance. I'm usually running 40-42 up front and 43 ish on rear. When inspection is due I take it to a local HD dealership and they enjoy airing down my tires to around 35 lbs. But they've alw...

Added a 2nd bike.. sorta

I've always wanted a hacked motorcycle. Came close to buying a goldwing with a sidecar but ended up in the hospital instead  So I came home on this. Having a 3rd wheel is pretty fun and 2wd isn't bad either :) 32710130027_5e2bcf8e27_c.jpg 32710047857_3ba2d9d530_c.jpg 47752806591_45e9ae6297_c.j...

FYI - Avon spec for the Venom is a max. of 50# so it would be easy to go over the suggested pressures in the trunk. I run my Venom at 48# when 2up and loaded.
Miss Venoms they were great tires.

Re: Checking your fasteners

Thanks! Like most goldwings it was in need of tlc and I'm really happy with how it turned out. :D Always thought the LTDs were best goldwings they made and thought they chose the colors of the 91 as sort of a tribute to the LTD? (kind of before my time being in the goldwing circles) or maybe it was ...

I'm a believer, it took me awhile to get my head around it but the light bulb finally went off. It took a lot of watching videos explaining what it was, how to do it and the advantages. Makes a lot of sense now and something I've been practicing. Teachin and old dog new tricks :)

Checking your fasteners

Lost my flag the other day on a nice ride. Still have the mount and looks like it was just that the screw came out. Had to order a replacement thru Cyclemax. Remember to check some fasteners occasionally or maybe use a little blue loctite :)
