Re: Extra Fuel Tank

Most 1500s will NOT achieve 40 mpg at "highway speeds". A few do actually. I owned two of them, a 94 and a 98, and both averaged 33 mpg over trips of 4,000 miles. I kept meticulous records on a spreadsheet, which I won't bore you with. the spreadsheet did an automatic recalculation of AVERAGE MPG =...

Hot weather vs cold weather

When it's hot (summer) my 92 GL1500 Interstate will run rough when accelerating from about 1200 to 1500+ rpm like when coming out of a turn from a corner. But when it gets cold, below 50 degrees for our 3.5 days of winter, it runs very well and smooth at that acceleration. Is there a sensor that mon...

Re: 4 wire harness id help

Yeah, looks like an aftermarket add on. I don't think Honda ever had connectors like that. I would trace the wires back to the other end and you may find the other end not connected either. The four colors look like trailer wiring. Russell Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt ...

Re: Need advice on repairing a torn slide diaphragm

I had a carb, (RF), that wasn't getting any fuel and after cleaning it ran well for a couple of days. Then it quit getting fuel again. I took them off again and cleaned them again and the same happened a second time. Nothing was wrong with float level and fuel was at the carb inlet. I found that the...

Re: Both Turn signal dash lights an beep

This could be some kind of security/alarm system, but, you would have to contact the previous owner to get the key fob remote, if that is what it is.

Re: Both Turn signal dash lights an beep

We could use more information on this Goldwing. Do the turn signals work properly? Do the hazard lights work properly? Where does it sound like the beep is coming from? Have you added any other new gadgets lately? If there are different models of GL1500 that year, (IDK), which model is it? Interstat...

Re: Need advice on repairing a torn slide diaphragm

My thought would be to replace all four of them as all the rubber is as old as what was torn and will likely tear again. It would be best to replace them all instead of taking a chance on an unknown repair process. So, it costs a little more to replace them but on a nice looking bike like that for o...

Exhaust cover question

I recently found a recycler that has a used pair of front exhaust pipe covers (with control cables) from a 1990 SE and I would like to replace them on my 92 Interstate, but, don't know if they will fit. Partzilla numbers for the 92 Interstate are; (L) 18425-MW5-000ZD and (R) 18325-MW5-000ZD. The 199...

Re: Replace Trunk Lid Seal

If I were to try to replace the trunk seal, as I have done on autos, after cleaning the groove, I would spray some silicone in the groove and take one end of the seal and start in a back corner of the lid and try sliding it, (pulling it) all the way around until all the seal is in place. Then leave ...

The best one is the black 3 ring binder with the Goldwing symbol on the front and HONDA in red and at the bottom it says 'Service Manual & Electrical Troubleshooting Manual'. Left side relay box #1=Low Beam; #4=High Beam
Try tapping on the relays with a screwdriver handle or something similar to maybe get it to work if it is stuck. This might work but, only temporarily.

Re: can you use dry graphite on the speedometer to lube it

I've never had one apart myself but, if it is in fact the speedometer that is noisy I might try a drop or two of light machine oil in the spot where the head turns. But, it is very likely that it is the cable and the best way to lube it is with some white lithium grease and if you take the cable out...

Re: Turn Signal Lights-Reverse

My first thought would be a bad ground connection, possibly in the white connector under the seat. When you have a bad ground you will have numerous electrical problems because the ground will feed back through other accessories which will make them all operate when one has been turned on.
