Re: 1990 1500 SE No spark

Just another thought, about checking all the connector pins under the fairing where the kill switch harness plugs into the main harness for corrosion. Or the connectors over the right radiator fan. Being caught out in the rain will blow water up into this area. Or pressure washing. I am not sure if ...

Re: 1990 1500 SE No spark

If you have no spark and the ECU is good, about the only thing left in the ignition circuit is the ignition coils. But since it is almost impossible for all three coils to go out at the same time, try checking the wiring from the ECU to the coils. Do a coil primary/secondary test on the coils. Check...

Re: Spedometer Quit

Disconnect the cable from the front wheel and see if you can turn the cable with a small screwdriver. If you can, use a drill with a small flat screwdriver bit and run the speedo with the drill on reverse. See if the speedo works. If it works you probably need to replace the nylon gear in the front ...

Re: Petrolpump, Electric.

I had that problem with my 92 Interstate and found that years and miles of vibration at the handlebar had loosened the connections at the kill switch. I removed the switch and tightened the wire connections and have had no more problem with that. With bad connections there you won't have power to th...

Re: 93A curb lights

The plugs for the lights and for the relays are just above the horns, one of each on each side. The lights should come on solid when you use the turn signals. You can make them come on as driving lights by cutting the green wire at the relays but the light gets really hot if they are on constantly u...

Re: Spark plug wires and caps

The hole in the end of the spark plug wire is caused by the pinpoint connector in the end of the coil that sticks into the core of the wire to make a solid connection. What you should do is follow the diagnostic information in the Honda factory service manual. You check resistance across the 1 and 2...

Check for the VIN on the right side of the steering head, below the handlebar. You might have to remove the insert around the steering area on that side.

Re: Going Wireless

I am only aware of two Sena Freewires. The black/orange is for Harley and the black/red is for the Goldwing five-pin helmet connector. The Sena doesn't have AM/FM but connects to the onboard radio system via the Freewire interface. It also will connect to several other riders within about a one mile...

Re: Blackwing fork brace install

I would try without loosening the pinch bolts first but, the Blackwing fork brace is such a tightly fitted machining that you may have to loosen the pinch bolts to fit it between the forks and not cause an outward bowing effect on your forks. It would be easy enough to torque the pinch bolts to the ...

Re: Helmet Blue tooth headset verse Blue Tooth ear over buds

You don’t have to buy two Sena’s. Buy one unit and then get a second helmet mount. You can move the brains between helmets. This is what I’m doing. But buying only one won't let you talk to your wife if she is with you. You could still purchase how ever many mounts you need for your diverse helmets...

Re: Helmet Blue tooth headset verse Blue Tooth ear over buds

The over the ear unit would probably be difficult to use with your full enclosed helmet, not much room in there to allow for the unit. Sena makes a nice unit that pairs to your cell phone and works really well. It also has an accessory FREEWIRE unit that plugs in to power and your five pin headset c...

Re: The chrome rotor covers ...

If they work at all they must have 12V+ and 12V- and they should work the same on both sides. LEDs do go bad sometimes and I would think that that is what has happened here. Of course, it wouldn't do any harm to test the wiring connections and make sure that there are no frayed wires but, I think yo...

Re: Valve Cover Damage

Silicone CAN do serious damage if it breaks free, which is why overzealous use of RTV in sealing gaskets (where the RTV squeezes into the interior of the engine, then breaks free) is a problem. The silicone can migrate through into oil galleys and plug them, causing oil starvation of smooth bearing...

Re: LED bulbs

The GL1500s do require H4 headlight bulbs but, the 1988 through 2000 must have a shim to make them fit properly. I think the shims are available from Cycle Max. I replaced my headlights with H4 LED bulbs that are a direct replacement without the extra wiring and ballast. You can email Brett Beisker ...

If you get another lock with your new part you can take it to a locksmith and they can punch out a new key from the number on the lock cylinder.

Re: Feel like an idiot. Only running on 4 cylinders

Don't replace one coil. Replace all three of them as the other two are just as old as the defective one and you don't want to have to replace another one soon down the road. I just had the same thing happen to my 92 Interstate while I was riding on a Patriot Guard Mission. It was noticeable when it ...

Re: Need help with front turn signal/running lights

First, I would try cleaning the turn signal switch. If that doesn't fix it I would try checking the ground circuit for bad connection or broken wire to frame.

Re: Head Cover Damage

I had a set of aluminum cobra valve covers on a Mustang many years ago and one side would get wet with oil all the time so, I pulled it off and, holding it up to the sun, I could see a very tiny pin hole in the cover. So I cleaned it really well and wiped it out with alcohol. Then I took a dab of cl...
