Re: GL1200 Fairing

Correct, physically they are all the same and you can mount an Interstate fairing on an Aspencade and vice versa. BUT, you'd be wise not to do that. Best to keep an Interstate fairing on an Interstate and an Aspencade fairing on an Aspencade. Interstate models had analog instruments, no radio/interc...

Re: GL1200 - Valve Lash Adjusters | Tappets

Well... the FSM (factory service manual) doesn't actually say "don't turn them upside down". It actually says "To prevent entry of air, do not tilt the adjusters once they are filled with oil or kerosene." They just don't want a bunch of the oil that you filled the adjusters with after cleaning and ...

Re: Water pump design changed in 85 ????

Well... based on the part numbers alone, SOMETHING changed in the water pump. Starting in 1985, the water pump is part number 19200-MG9-681. It appears, based on part numbers, that the water pump went through three versions sometime since the first 1984 version. First 1984 water pump - part number 1...

Re: 1987 GL1200 Fuel Petcock - one year only - HELP!

Hah! NEVER GIVE UP ! ! ! I found a rebuild kit for some Honda ATVs that fit the '87 GL1200 fuel petcock and can be used to rebuild it! I've put the info in a new thread so the admins can make a sticky out of it if they want to. See this thread for the info: http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.ph...

1987 GL1200 Fuel Petcock - I Found a Rebuild Kit ! ! !

I found a rebuild kit for the one-year-only 87 GL1200 fuel petcock that works!!! :D It's installed on my '87 GL1200 and is working and not leaking! :D In case you don't already know, the 87 GL1200 petcock is a one-year-only petcock that was not put on any other Honda motorcycle. Anyways....I have a small issue. I picked up the bike yesterday and upon riding it home and playing with the controls a bit, I noticed something wrong with the cruise control button. I got tired of guessing how fast I was going on my '06 GL1800, so I fixed it with this: a Healtech SpeedoHealer, here: https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/sh/ Great product that solves the problem. Lots of cool features including being able to store two different calibrations for example f...

That's an entirely different wiring diagram from an '87 Interstate. I have that one too, but would have to scan it separately. Let me know for su...

Re: 84 Standard passenger backrest?

I still have an original color 18-page sales brochure for 1984 Gold Wings that I got when I bought my first Gold Wing in 1984. I just checked it and it shows that Honda themselves made a luggage rack for the Standard model GL1200. Those most always came with a passenger back rest on them as well. Wh...

Re: 1987 GL1200 Fuel Petcock - one year only - HELP!

Unless your trying to maintain a pure-stock GW, just go to the local lawn/garden center and get a fuel shut-off valve for a lawn tractor. That's what I did, after finding out I went 70 miles with a "closed" petcock. I put mine about 2 inches downstream from the original - easy to get to, and hardly...

No worries. Drilled out the rivets and used a small bolt with a nyloc nut as shown in this picture. Used a hand drill to remove the rivets. I ran into the same issue you are seeing... parts listed as 84-87. I took mine apart, flipped the gasket over and turned in 180 degrees and put it back together again. Hasn’t been a problem since then. The damaged portion is no longer in an area that seals... something to consider. I have heard tha...

1987 GL1200 Fuel Petcock - one year only - HELP!

Has anyone actually taken the fuel petcock on a 1987 GL1200 apart and put a rebuild kit 4-hole disc and gaskets in it? I'm trying to find out of they use the same rebuild kit parts as a 1984, 1985, and 1986 GL1200 fuel petcock. If they don't, we 1987 owner are just plain screwed if our fuel petcock...

Just let me ride my bike and enjoy the road! I do wish I had music on my GL1000 sometimes though. O...

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

Well... I like most of it, including the overall look of the bike, the reduced weight, most of the high-tech stuff and the DCT transmission. My main complaint is the drastically reduced storage capacity! What the heck is Honda thinking? This is supposed to be a two-up, long-distance touring bike. Th...
