C5 ignition...half price

One of the moderators on the Classics forum passed away and I'm helping his widow sell off his bikes and parts. This is a brand new C5 ignition including programmer..according to Paul at C5 the only thing not there is the adapter for whichever specific model you want to install it on. Vince paid abo...

Well I would say I am cruising the highway in fairly flat saskatchewan, cruising at approx. 65mph. Fuel stop is approx. 200kms away, so thats about 120 miles.
I think you'd be fine. My 83 gets about 40 mpg on average...I get 160 miles without hitting reserve.

Re: GL1100 Front Forks

Is your triple tree OK? One of the moderators on another forum passed away and I'm helping his widow clear out parts and bikes. The last time i was there I spotted some fork tubes with lowers in one of the sheds....I didn't take a good look at them at the time. I'm going back around the end of this ...

Re: How to remove, rebuild and reinstall your starter

Step 16: Remove the Circlip and push the shaft through the “head”. Mine will not budge...even whacked it a few times with a deadblow hammer. It seems to spin OK...thinking I'll clean it up the best I can and put it back in. I swear the wires on the + brush were insulated when I took it apart....afte...

Re: Starts up perfect cold, seems to struggle when warm

Until yesterday my bike was starting just fine. Yesterday morning it started right up..I rode about 30 miles and stopped at a store, when I went to start it back up it barely turned over..I kept trying and finally it started. Later in the day it also started back up but it had a few hours to cool. M...

Re: GL1100 running lean?

The pilot screws adjust the "fuel" at idle. Out equals more fuel to idle circuits. Sounds like you may have eliminated the fuel pump as a problem. BUT I did the same tests with mine and there were no tears or holes in the diaphragm and the flow seemed okay. Nothing else fit the symptoms for all fou...

Re: Helmet Quick Connect

The only thing I dislike about my Shoei Neotec 2 helmet is the quick connect device. It works great on and off, but because there are no D-rings I have no way to fasten it to the helmet latches on my bike. So now I take the helmet inside with me if I have too much cargo to put it in the trunk. With...

Re: 83 HONDA GL1100A ASPENCADE leak under front OIL PAN TRANSMISSION COVER

If you water pump has a Bakelite impeller it's still the original waterpump. Might be a good time to just replace it. You'll need to pull that front cover & get a full gasket set so if that cover is leaking you'll kill two birds with one stone. A new pump and gasket set will run about $175 or so. ht...

Re: 83 HONDA GL1100A ASPENCADE leak under front OIL PAN TRANSMISSION COVER

The hole is a "Weep" hole for the water pump. If the front seal is leaking you'll have coolant leaking from the hole...if the rear seal is leaking you'll have oil from the engine leaking.

Re: GL1100 carb cleaning?

I cleared mine by using an airgun I found in the shop at work. Somebody had adapted a section of metal automotive brake line to the end. I went in from the carb outlet side and blew the obstruction back through the carbs. It took a few tries but I got them all squirting really well. I don't know if ...

9950 miles for $1400? You'd better be looking over your shoulder before the police find you for stealing that bike! :) I haven't done an overhaul on my carbs (haven't needed to, thankfully) so I haven't got any details on doing it. However, if/when I do, I will be purchasing this rebuild kit and gu...

Re: Just picked up a bike, already having problems

Always a good idea to check the reserve setting. I can't remember which forum I was on but somebody said that the first time they had to hit reserve on their oldwing they were stranded, as the reserve pickup was blocked. If you sucked some crud from the bottom of the tank I would think that your fue...
