Sure...use second or third gear. Good luck if you don't have a helper or are not facing downhill.

Re: Is my starter going?

The commutator on mine looked as if it was painted black...much dirtier than yours. I cleaned it with fine emery cloth.

Re: Is my starter going?

Another glitch... The DIY says to, "Remove the Circlip and push the shaft through the “head”. No way that's coming out. Circlip removed. I tried lightly on my vise and some taps with a hammer. It's not budging. I may have to simply clean the old grease and repack. Just need to know about that gaske...

Sonic cleaning can knock them out. I just shipped an accelerator pump housing to a guy in Ireland on the Classic forum who had one come apart that way.

LOL...I said 40 OR below....not minus 40!!!! I won't take the bike out when it's any colder than that due to the threat of ice on the road.

Re: Choke - where am I going wrong?

Here in Pa. if the temps are 40 degrees or below I found this procedure works: Full choke & hit the button...bike will fire almost instantly, rev to about 3500 then slowly drop and usually die....twist the throttle a couple of times and repeat. After a few tries the bike will stay running and rev it...

Re: gl1100 carb ?

When I put mine back together the bike fired up instantly.....but would only rev to about 3500 RPM. I had changed the needles and seats but used the original floats so I thought i wouldn't have to worry about float height....WRONG! The openings on the accel pump nozzles are tiny. I used an airgun wi...

Re: gl1100 carb ?

Yes they should stop the flow. Also check to make sure the accelerator pump jets are all clear...you should get a nice fine stream out of all four carbs. If you swap out the floats, needles and/or seats you should check the float height. I made the mistake of not checking and had to pull the carb ra...

Re: Fork cap leaking.

Definitely have the front wheel off the ground...there will still be a bit of tension on the spring. Many folks have made a tool to get the caps back on...slotted PVC pipe etc. Pay close attention to where the threads on the cap begin to catch...it will make it easier to get the cap back on.

Re: Funny noises after carburetor reinstallation

Yes and no.... the intake clamp screw that I dropped wouldn't make it all the way past the valve...a small washer might make it all the way into the cylinder

Re: Funny noises after carburetor reinstallation

Easy enough to check...just pull and replace the intake tubes one at a time...no need to pull the carbs.

Re: Funny noises after carburetor reinstallation

I did exactly that///dropped a screw from one of the intake clamps. It made a few loud snapping sounds...then got under the valve. Bent valve, cracked valve guide and $200 for the machine shop to rebuild the head.

Progressive 412 shocks (non-air) cost me about $230. I remember someone got a cheaper set from eBay for under $100 and was happy with them.
