Re: 1500 Aftermarket Radio Option

If you are looking for the radio cover, like I used, you can find them all the time on ebay (search for Honda Goldwing 1500; might have to scroll a few pages). Also, Cyclemax sells a transparent one: http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500_smoked_radio_cover/86/127001 If you want a flat plate (someon...

Re: 1500 Aftermarket Radio Option

Stew - I think you might be able to do that with a blanking plate. The depth is really determined by 2 things. First, there is the standard automotive type of mounting screw that is on the back side, which isn't needed in this application and could easily be removed. Second is that the harness from ...

Re: 1500 Aftermarket Radio Option

No, you do NOT lose the air pressure display when you pull the factory radio (at least, I didn't lose it). The clock still works when it wants to as well. The only thing I can tell that is gone is the radio station display, which my new unit has on it's own display anyway, so no big loss for me. I i...

Re: add fuel pump relay to the 1500

I recently added a relay to control my aftermarket/kludged fuel pump installation after the remote switch I had originally installed failed. I just went into O'Reilly and picked up an automotive 12V/30A relay and wired the control side to the accessory fuse block, and the contact feed straight from ...

Re: 96 1500 Aftermarket Radio Option

The topic thread below is how I did my own stereo swap. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31590 I've used it for 2 years now with no real issues. The only thing I've had any minor problem with is that occasionally the USB thumb drive will power up in "charging" mode. Not sure why, bu...

Re: Opinions on stock vs. BT intercoms

I'm in kind of the opposite position. I've never used the stock intercom but do use a bluetooth setup (Sena SMH10). I like not having cords to deal with, personally. My 1500 doesn't have the CB, which I probably never would have used anyway, so I get all I need with the bluetooth.

CURIOUS...
With no passenger BACKREST,
does that 7 inch screen show this
if the passenger goes missing?
.

I just thought that was depicting the passenger trailer option.

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

One thing that seems to be a common theme among all the comments related to the Bluetooth integration with Apple Carplay is that everyone believes this means it will only work with iPhones. That is not true. Any Bluetooth phone will still do all the normal Bluetooth stuff (music, phone calls, texts,...

Re: A Short While Ago and a Long Way From Home

ct1500 - I figured the 44 psi pump was probably the ultimate cause of the ECM failure but didn't have any way to verify, and now that I no longer have the original pump I can't test it to see if it really was bad or if the ECM was already flaking out. I definitely need to do some more research on th...

Re: going to New Mexico Albuquerque

We love the area just north of Albuquerque. Take highway 84 north out of Santa Fe and catch 64 towards Taos. Just about any of the roads between those up in that area are spectacular riding.

A Short While Ago and a Long Way From Home

About two and a half weeks ago a friend and I took off from Wichita, Kansas on a trip to visit the western states. This post is not so much about the trip as it is about the bike issues I had along the way with my ’96 Aspencade. I tend to get wordy as I describe things (hey, I’m a technical writer b...

Re: LED brake lights cause Cruise Control to stop working

I came across this article the other day after spending the weekend riding with a friend who had installed LED lights on his Victory Vision and was experiencing the same exact issue with the loss of his cruise control. I forwarded this article to him and it proved to be valid on his bike as well. He...

Air Shock Boot

A couple weeks ago I was replacing my rear brakes when I noticed that the air shock boot was cracked. I took a 1400 mile ride to New Mexico last weekend and now it is now hanging on in 3 pieces. Is there a way to replace the boot without doing the whole shock? Is it OK to just leave it without the b...

Wanna Rumble?

Last week I finally got around to trying to replace my back brake pads which wore out on my big trip in July. I wound up having to do the trick of lifting the rear end to do it, but still think there has to be a better way. Anyway, we had taken the mufflers off to do the job and the rotor was a bit ...

Re: Eliminating Stereo???

I used the stock radio cover to fill the hole. I took the flap off the cassette deck if the stock radio to fill the niche for itself. Glued it up an reinforced it with a couple of metal bands and bolts. I can't get the photo to upload from my phone but I shared a thread about it back around January ...

Re: Eliminating Stereo???

Removing the stock stereo does NOT affect any of the other display functions. I replaced my stock stereo with a modern Bluetooth compatible marine stereo a few months ago and lost none of the pre-existing functionality (mainly clock and air compressor info). I no longer have the radio station on the...

Re: Speedometer Problem

Thanks, MikeB, for the info. I picked up some white lithium grease on the way home last night. Had to soak the worm gear for awhile, and work it, then soak it more before it finally worked freely without ceasing. Of course I tried to get the bike back together late last night and in my fatigue, whil...

Speedometer Problem

During my recent trip from Wichita to Portland, Maine and back my speedometer stopped working (about 1000 miles into our 4500 mile trip). I couldn't find any dealer along the way who had parts to fix it so I ordered a new speedo cable to have it at home when I got back. It took me a few days to get ...

Re: The Big Adventure of 2016

Day 10 - July 17 The Finale!! We finally came full circle and arrived back in Wichita mid-afternoon today (July 17). It was a hot ride coming back into Kansas, so we knew we were on the home stretch (and it definitely took quite a bit of stretching to keep me in the saddle for one last hurrah). Her...

Re: The Big Adventure of 2016

Day 8 Well, I've heard it said that problems come in threes, so today was bike problem number 3. The first was the broken speedometer cable on my Goldwing. The second was a front fender issue with the Victory Vision. Today was a tire that had lost all tread on the Harley. We left Syracuse this morn...
