Re: Radio Surround

It is a stock Honda part from a 91 Interstate. It had a Kenwood amp under the cover and control head in the left pocket.

Re: AUDIO PROBLEM

I know these are new J&M headsets but if they use Z series cords make sure there is no gap between the upper and lower cord. We get a lot of calls and see this problem all the time due to the cords not being fully engaged. It takes a lot of brute force the first times these cords are used. The reaso...

Re: Tuning CB SWR on an untunable antenna

reply to New Wing Rider, if you are familiar with an old yagi tv antenna there is 1 driven element that the cable is connected to and several dead short director and longer reflector elements. As far as the CB antenna is concerned the AM/FM antenna on the G/W is nothing but a reflector of a 2 elemen...

Re: Tuning CB SWR on an untunable antenna

Usually the solder joint at the base of the antenna is where it will loose continuity either from fatigue or just a bad solder connection. We tune hundreds of the antennas for our antenna kits and occasionally find a bad solder connection. The dummy antenna on the Gold Wing with monofilament line is...

Those are HS-119 OF headsets from 1980 era. Cords are still available but cost is over $60 each.

Re: Antenna

OEM antenna, for 82 thru 87 Aspencade, was a tri-way antenna for both am-fm & CB. None of the 82-87 came with CB and when CB was added the CB kit came with a 3 way splitter. For am-fm anything sticking up in the air will work fine. The hidden antennas are a waste of time unless you just want to have...

Re: CB micro and headset??

Sounds like you have a 1984 Standard, not an Aspencade. Aspencade had a Hondaline fairing, not Windjammer, with the described triway antenna.

A photo of what you have would really help. You mention Windjammer, is that what the bike has for a fairing??

Re: CB micro and headset??

The 84 Aspencade came with the triway CB/AM/FM antenna installed and if it has OEM CB installed then it probably has the splitter under the left pocket.

Re: GL1800 CB

I believe Doug at Sierra has 1 harness that converts pre 12 to the 12-17 models. He actually replaces the old harness coming from radio to bike, so he has to install it into the older CB. This was 2 weeks ago. He had only 1 and cannot get connectors to make any more.

It is on a shelf under the front panel which means you have to remove shield. I mounted mine on the top of the brake resevoir.

Re: Remove AM FM CASSETT PLAYER

Since it is a 1990 it has the relay box as shown, as do all 1500. The 5A backup fuse is on the right hand lower corner. It is often confused with having something to do with the bikes reverse operation. This fuse is for all of the memory functions, channel memory, clock, as well as the amplifier tur...

Re: Remove AM FM CASSETT PLAYER

If the 5A fuse was blown the radio would still have very low volume but headsets would still work, clock would lose its memory, and channel memory would be lost.

Your problem is not uncommon on the GL1500 radio. Sierra has repaired many gl1500 audio units with the problem you have with the broken circuit board.

Re: Some Sound no Stereo

It is a solder land on the circuit board at the neck of the radio where the connectors are. Not sure what you were referring to as previous owner splicing into wiring in the communications. An image would be good.

Re: Some Sound no Stereo

The 94 Interstate came with OEM HSPT GL15 cables for both driver and passenger. If this is where the problem is you can still purchase new ones. It is very common for a ground solder land to be broken at the neck of the radio.

Turn the ignition key on and remove the negative battery connection for 5 seconds and that will reset the audio units processor and more than likely fix the problem.

Re: Satellite radio install

The best advice I can give is to purchase a Sirius receiver. Even thou SiriusXM is one company they use different satellites for the two services. The Sirius Satellites are orbiting in a figure 8 pastern in the northern hemisphere and the XM is geostationary in the southwest. Another problem is that...

Re: CB goes off

Possibly low voltage from battery due too current draw from brake light. I have seen a lot of this when battery is about to need replacement. The processor in audio unit, controlling CB, does not like a drop below 11v.

For lack of a better explanation the tape mechanism is out of time and this is normally due to the small nylon drive gear is split or out of alignment.

Re: Passenger Communications

If it is 7 pin din connector it was used for the J&M hand mic. The extra 2 pins were for the keying circuit. You can plug a five pin into it and it will work fine. Designed to work with the either hand mic or headset.

Just remove the turn signals, and speakers and you will see the bolts. don't let the metal nuts fall into the fairing as they are sometimes hard to retrieve.

Re: No Sound J&M Headset

Sounds like problem with audio unit if same at both outputs. More than likely an open solder land on neck of radio, very common. A lot of times I can put upward pressure on neck and get headset to work properly, this is where the connectors are, at the front of radio. This test you can do without re...
