Re: Water pump replacement 82 aspencade

As soon as I saw the word "Barracuda" water pump, I knew what the problem was, even though I have never used their parts. It used to be that no matter the problem, it was the customer's fault. So, I'm curious if Saberpsycho is still the one who responds to customer inquiries and what was t...

Re: Protective Clothing

I don't try to convince other riders about the need for protective gear. Haven't found a one yet that will listen. All I tell them about helmets it that if I had always worn one, I'd have 23 less stitches in my head. Guess I was lucky. That was 52yrs ago I spent two weeks in the hospital when an old...

Don't have a passenger backrest by itself. All mine are made for luggage racks, with the racks.

Re: Wanted :-1978 GL1000 Grab Rail

Not getting any better for the States. This past week, it took 9 days for a pair of brake lines to get to me, from next door Tenn. I sent a GL1000 gas tank to Ohio and it took 7 days. I think all those cost saving measures the USPS put in place must be working. And every time they postage costs are ...

Re: Wanted :-1978 GL1000 Grab Rail

As much as I like the Samsonite luggage, I've not got anyone or anywhere else to put. They do have weak spots, which are in the corners, but I have a method of fixing them that makes them better than new, and much stronger. 2 yrs ago I made a 1600 mile trip, 500 miles through Oklahoma, all rain and ...

Re: Wanted :-1978 GL1000 Grab Rail

I have copies of the mounting instructions for the GL1100 80-83, but none for the GL1000. But they are very similar. If you need copies, PM me. I see in your avatar photo that the bike has the Samsonite type suitcases. Same I have on my '79.

Re: still looking for backrest and trunkbags

They are not hard to find, just maybe it scares a lot of folks to mail something and especially out of the country. Are you looking for Hondaline trunk and bags or will most any aftermarket ones do you? If you post photos or names of what you want, that will narrow your search. I've got the complete...

Re: Wanted :-1978 GL1000 Grab Rail

The grab rail in your picture is from a '75-77 model, the 78-79 don't have the mounts for directional signals on theirs. The one you pictured is VERY expensive, the one made for 78-79 are usually less than $100. Do you have the Vetter luggage rack and side mounts for Vetter bags? They are black, not...

I've got two motorcycles insured with American National. It may not be available where you live, but the Home Office and Headquarters is here in Springfield, MO. Also have home and 3 cars with them. My full coverage and roadside assistance for my '79 Wing(full Vettered tourer) and my '83 CX650C is $...

Re: A Sad Story, But True

I change all my own tires and those for a lot of my friends. Reason being....too often the dirtiest, lowliest jobs are given to the "newby" mechanic(I'm being generous here) and they get to change the tires. Often as not, they do not have the experience needed to do the job correctly, incl...

Re: Headlamp modulators and big friggen windshields

I have a modulating unit on my '79 Wing, but it's an old one that has it's own separate switch on the module, to shut it off when I so chose, like for riding at night. My headlight does do some reflecting off street signs also, but not extremely so. As for when I use the modulator....ALL THE TIME in...

Re: Longest Lasting Tires for Global Trip

Back to the subject of TIRES. The toughest, longest lasting tire IMO would be a London Taxi tire on your rear. A 5.0X16 Avon 6 ply. Don't know what size your rear rim is, but I'd make it a 16". Tires are much more available in that size. As for front tire, I usually prefer the Dunlop bias ply. ...

Re: Nightmare work by previous owner

A fellow once brought to me a '75 GL1000 to be worked on and get running. He had spent many $ getting it repainted, bags, trunk and all. It was a good looking bike. I pulled the carbs and found every single one of them broken inside, loose bowls, stripped screws galore. This was just the beginning. ...

Re: Polishing Diamond Plate or Aluminum

I don't know what this "weak battery acid" is nor where on a boat that b4u uses it. Aluminum cleaner maybe? The acid often used for cleaning aluminum is hydrofluoric acid, not battery acid, in many aluminum "cleaners". But be VERY careful when using any cleaner that has hydrofluo...

Re: Will 81 gl1100 wheels work on 78 gl1000?

Carl, got your PM about the Lesters. Mine were sold long ago. As for your wanting tubeless rims, are they for the '78 in your picture? Do you not already have tubeless rims on it? If you look closely at your rims, see if it doesn't say "tubeless tire applicable", stamped into the outside i...

Re: '86 Fork seals...Who's are Best?

Yesterday, made a 75 mile trip to my friend's home and looked at his forks and did some investigating on his problem. I took his word for it, that the seals were leaking. Yes there was ATF on the forks, when there shouldn't be. I lifted the dust covers off the lowers and looked inside. No ATF pooled...

'86 Fork seals...Who's are Best?

The reason I'm asking this question, "who makes the best seals?" is because we just changed out the seals in my friend's '86 GL1200A for the SECOND time in as many weeks. First set installed by a motorcycle shop well known and known for good work. The seals lasted 3 days, very few miles. M...

And it could well be just your tire. Look closely at the tread and see if there is any "cupping". There are theories galore, as to why this happens. My front Dunlop did this before 10K miles.

Re: rear bumper wanted gl 1000 1977

To mount the #4 "bumper", which we call a "grab rail" here in the States, you will also need the #6 and #7 bolts. The "bumper" pictured is for the '75-77 Wings, which had he rear signals mounted to it. This part is about twice as expensive as the '78-79 models that don'...

On both my '75 and '79 Wings, I am using OEM 1100 seats. They are fitting quite well. The seat in the photo looks to have a plastic tongue that will fit the 1200s. "If it don't fit...get a bigger hammer". Or, "Nothing is impossible, it just takes a little longer to do than the difficu...

Re: 1984 Aspecade Battery- What to buy...

AGM battery all the way.I'll never put a lead acid battery(not even a maint. free) in any of my toys again.50 more CCA than the lead/acid that was in it makes a big difference.More money initially, but well worth it. The Batteries Plus battery is AGM. Another good thing about them....they don't pump...
