Re: new to me

Welcome to the forum. Hydrolock is a big concern. But the wing fuel tank is low and has a fuel pump. Did you do a lot of "cranking" before the thump? Was tank full? Could tank have become pressurized some how? I can't remember, does the 1100 have a vacuum petcock like the 1500? Of course even if fu...

Re: new to me

Hey I just got my 1980 GL1000 last week. I tried last year to buy it but couldn't find the money, a few months back the guy found another bike and cut the price in half so I jumped on it. Moved it to my house and parked it in the shed. I had driven this bike last fall so I knew it ran good for an o...

Re: VIN location on a 1976 GL 1000 Goldwing

Hi, thanks for getting back to me so quick. I found a vin number, one on the left side of the neck and one on the right side of the neck. I eat her a video on the subject and it said the one on the left would be the vin for the frame.,when it was made. It also said that to find out what year the bi...

Re: GL 1000 77

I should be able to finish with the tear down this weekend. As always im two steps ahead with my thoughts. I cant figure out what to do with the frame, should i powder coat it or wet paint (is this a right word?) it? For me powder coat paint looks like a paint that you use to paint garden stuff or ...

Are those brackets welded later for sidecar or were they mounted already in factory?
Not factory that I've ever seen.

Re: GL 1000 77

If you need an exhaust, look into putting on a set of Harley mufflers. Here, USA, they can be bought, new for less than 50 USD. I have them on my bike even tho I have an almost brand new OEM setup on hand. Very easy to install. They aren't OEM of course but will save you a fortune. Since nobody men...

Almost pulled the trigger on some the other night; Randakks wants 183 for the set, can't pop that much right now.
I have his set.

They aren't cheap,

You can find SS lines cheaper.

Re: GL 1000 77

Now im starting to see the differences. I didnt know that different setups were sold in different markets. My bike is originally from Sweden. The more i investigate and get to know with the bike the less i want to build a caferacer or smth like that. It should remain close to originaal condition. L...

If I can figure out what the forks came off of I may be able to sort where the wheels came from. There's two gold fronts on ebay right now but not really budgeted for that at the mo.
Why do you think the forks were changed?

Re: 76 GL1000 LTD Vetter

I like the look of it but the wiring is kinda bodged with extras added here and there, and the harness was scabbed into the headlight bucket that's still in place with those connectors you use to patch into existing circuits. The headlight in the Vetter barely glowed and the turn signals were dim a...

MMO? Marvel Mystery Oil? Where would I pour it? Thanks! Jim Take out the spark plugs (make sure you have a good bite on them - you don't want to strip those out!), And pour about a teaspoon through each sparkplug hole. You will have to change the timing belts, and you can rotate the engine from the...

Very first thing...Pull all 4 spark plugs and HAND crank the engine..Don't even attempt to start it yet...
I always suggest to see if the engine is runable before doing anything else.
Would you MMO it before trying to turn it over?

It's the dark blue. I tried to find it online but all the paint codes seem to point towards that aqua looking blue. I couldn't be 100% sure but that's what Google kept returning when i searched that paint code. This is the bike IMG_20190212_162807.jpg 78 original color? http://www.vmrpaints.com/hon...

Re: Changing handle bars

Previous posts about cable lenghts are absolutely spot on, it's something you'll have to measure carefully. I recently bought a '78 that the previous owner put clubman bars on. They look sweet, but the PO didn't think about clearance, so there are two fat dings on both of the faux gas tank covers. ...

Re: Just purchased a 1975 GL1000 w/low mileage (~13k) - now what?

I also bought a gl1000 recently but was lucky enough that it was running - those carbs are no joke! You might also want to refresh the coolant - drain what's in there and top up with something new. The timing belts might seem easy but it can be a tricky job - I just did mine and I'm not sure if the...

Re: Clutch adjust cover Gasket / O ring

That Partzilla link doesn't have the gasket he needs. The one he needs is a "square O-Ring" that seals the clutch adjustment cover. I couldn't find one last week when I needed one, so I made my own using a 3D printer. I will make him one if he send me his address. Yes, I couldn't see one there eith...

Does this have points or an aftermarket ignition setup? It has points.
