Re: A Little Help With Battery Wiring?

The battery is the proper place to get power to a relay for ignition or lighting or... I would not be in a hurry to set that back to stock as a relay for the ignition helps the Spark quite a bit. A pure stock 76 Ltd sounds nice but one that runs strong sounds better to most of us. Plus if he swappe...

Re: Replacing Origial Bulbs with LEDs

Now my turn signal buzzer/clicker doesn't work anymore! Could that be because there isn't enough resistance? Do I need to use a higher ohm load resistor? I didn't have a chance to figure out how to make the turn signal buzzer/clicker work before it started working nonstop, unless the bike is at idl...

Should have added :- Also located/bought - all 3 calipers, front and rear master cyls., 'aeroquip' hoses, fuel filler, kickstart lever, odd knobs and bits .... so we are getting somewhere. I think you mean fuel filter? Hope you bought a good one, some are real crapola and the paper inside collapses.

Re: hondaline luggage keys

You don't need to take pictures on my account, I'm sure there are better ways for you to get grins and giggles. I've gotten a lot of help on this forum and I thought I would try to return the favor, just had a hunch the locksmith I use might be able to track it down. I think instead I am complicati...

Re: hondaline luggage keys

I sent the pic to my locksmith, and he said he's narrowing down and asked for a picture of the other side of the key as well. Just to confirm - it's for an 81 GL1100 correct? The fact that the bags are on an 81 GL1100 has NOTHING to do with the keys. The keys are for Hondaline/Samsonite bags which ...

Re: hondaline luggage keys

Here's the same key, but in a different number. My key is #431.image.jpeg I actually have both originals sets of keys that came with the bags. Years ago I went to various locksmiths and no one could match the keys. Been following the various threads of the years and sometimes people say they found ...

Re: hondaline luggage keys

Is the issue that you guys know what the key blank is, but can't find it? If that's the case I can check with an old timey lock smith by me who copied my ignition key, just let me know what the blank number is. Some people claimed to have found the correct blanks but they have never said which they...

Re: hondaline luggage keys

I do not see a "final on the locks". I'm in the same situation as these folks were. I have a single, original key (#431) for my Hondaline luggage/saddlebags for my 1981 Honda GL1100. Where can I find blanks and what is the part number? I am relatively sure if I can find blanks, my local locksmith c...

Re: 1978 vrs 1979 Gauges

If your fuel Gauge reads empty with a half tank left, it is working like most other users on GL1000's. Regulator will not fix that. Some have fiddled with the float arm but best to just go by miles. Not sure on the 7 vs 8.4 but might have to do with the amperage. The regulation voltage did not chan...

Re: 1978 vrs 1979 Gauges

What's the issue with the fuel gauge? I go by mileage only. I also go by mileage but would like my gauge to be as accurate as possible. Right now when it's full it reads correctly... but when it's reads empty I've got about half a tank. I've already pulled out and check my float and it's working fi...

Re: 1978 vrs 1979 Gauges

I'm wondering if the center gauges (above the false tank) are the same from a 1978 GL1000 -> 1979 GL1000? and the 7 volt regulator ? I am having problems with my fuel gauge reading incorrectly and wondering if the 7volt regulator needs to be changed. I found someone selling a 1979 gauge pod for $25...

Re: 1976 GL100 Second time around.

Got the tank done, cleaned it up inside and out. Used POR-15, motorcycle tank recondition kit for the first time and it worked nicely. Clean the rust off the outside, gave it a coat of primer and 3 coats of gloss black engine color. Has to set till Friday before any fuel can be added. POR is great ...

Re: 1976 GL100 Second time around.

Thx for the replies :D . I got the mufflers weld up and patched a few small spots on the headers, they should last a little while, but going to need replaced down the road. I used electrolysis to clean the tank, which done a nice job but needs to be coated, going to do a POR-15 job on it, which is ...

I'm really thinking about doing that. At a minimum I'm going to pull the old wrapping off so I can make sure everything is in good shape. Are all those same wire colors easy to find? I've determined my rectifier is shot, and I was reading about replacing it with a regulator/rectifier and eliminatin...

Re: Wiring harness fried

Thanks for the advice. I ordered a 40 year old harness because I couldn't find a new one. Are you aware of a source for a new one? No, that's why I ask. I do know of people who have made their own. I'd be sorely tempted to take that 40 year harness apart, blueprint it, then build a jig from it so t...

Does that actually open the bags?
Amazing how help seems to be a one way street for some.

We ask for some help with an answer and it falls on dead ears.
The original poster hasn't been on the site in six months, which is likely why he hasn't answered your question.

Broke through my fuel pipes completely after another few hours of drilling. The short story is that the carbs now flood because after removing the carbs and bowls they have the same brown paste through them. I have a small sonic cleaner I can put them in one at a time. Re: What to look for when buying

Typo issue for sure. I meant saving the original paint. Once you repaint, the original paint is gone never to return. Many make the repaint mistake and then search for OEM painted panels to get her back to a vintage look. Aged paint can look great in a show. I have the original panels packed away a...
