The guy told me it does not have point ignition anymore. It's been changed to electric.

Are those adjustable?
It depends on what kind/brand.

You should try to find out, some can tell just by looking at a picture of the plate.

I replaced the main dogbone fuse. Made a short test run without problems :D

Will make a next test run tomorrow to see if it is still good.
You should really replace the whole setup with a modern 30 amp blade type fuse.

Re: Side covers and resto-mod for GL1000

Thanks for the posts. SnoBrdr...I have seen some beat up side covers on ebay, I will continue to look. I am running a sealed beam. I will experiment with the aiming to see if I can get some improvement. I like my spoked wheels and will continue to look for brake mods that will utilize them. I am in...

Re: Side covers and resto-mod for GL1000

Well I am sad to say that while trailering my blue GL1000 to the NC mountains for two days of riding, the right side cover blew off and is forever gone. It stayed attached at the screw but came loose at the upper attachments and broke. It's a real shame since the plastic on my bike is in unusually ...

Re: Center Stand

Thanks everyone. Makes sense. Here is another question. The alternator / stator cap twisted off, so the rotor bolt is exposed. Has anyone experienced oil getting in there. I was concerned with oil coming out and getting all over. Had the same issue. I ran it open for a bit wo an issue. I then put a...

Re: Center Stand

Some have shortened the stand to make it easier to put it on and roll it off. Some however do get corroded and begin twisting forward. On one of mine it was getting harder and harder to get off the center stand before I finally crawled under and saw the crossmember the stand is attached to tearing ...

Re: Correct instrument colours/faces

Those s/s pistons are probably the ones I found on eBay.com as opposed to eBay.UK "Made in Germany" is interesting. Hard to believe nobody thinks it is worthwhile stocking them in the UK for restorers of early Goldwings. [I had an email back yesterday from Roger Etcell's UK firm saying they did not...

Re: Correct instrument colours/faces

Hello FC Thanks for confirming when green faces were used. I don't think selling the tacho is very cost effective as shipping costs from here in the UK are steep. [It works both ways - the only company that makes stainless steel rear caliper pistons is in the US - but shipping and import costs mean...

Think it's just a UK thing as that's their speed limit.

May not have been factory as I always thought they would be in KPH and not MPH.

Hope someone in the UK can help. I am slowly putting back together a '76 GL1000 basket case. Main instruments appear to be from a later bike as they have black faces. Re: Make Gl1000 Headlight Brighter?

If the GL1000 uses a standard round sealed beam automotive headlight you'll need an adapter housing that will let you use a standard H4 type headlight bulb, then you have a world of options such as the LEDs Mh434 provided the link for. Sorry, I don't have a GL1000 so I don't know if it's using the ...

Don't know if your found the problem but my 76 has a sticking starter button on the handlebar. I have to physically pull the button out to stop the starter. I need to take the switch apart and clean it.

Bud.
Did you try spraying it with contact cleaner before you go thru that bother?

Even with electronic ignition, I'm not sure I'd want to draw 40 amps (in the positive feed) on the standard wire.

Re: Will coils from a K3 be good for a KZ?

I don't think you can use the Dodge Neon coils on the 1000's . They measure 0.6 ohms, which would be a 20 Amp current draw, per side. Standard coils are 3 ohms, which gives a 4 Amp draw, but that would reduce even more if you take the ballast resistor into account too. Maz You can if you use electr...

Yep that’s the one with the three dials in the tank. Anyway the coils that where available turned out to not be ‘in stock’ so the question became redundant however now I’ve made it home I know I can look for coils from a wider choice of bikes. Thank you Mike You can also look for coils from some ca...
