Re: 1985 Limited Edition Alternator Wiring Schematic

I replaced my stock reg/rectifier with a newer one and left off the reg/rectifier plug and connected the output from the reg/rect directly to the battery plus and minus posts. It's been running fine for at least 6 months. I think that you can connect directly from the alternator post to the positive...

Re: Headlight Will Not Come On

Did you fully disassemble the switch and clean and polish the contacts? The first time i did mine i took the headlight out and reinserted the electrical connections, and it worked fine, then the next day it died again. then I took apart the starter switch and fully disassembled it and cleaned and po...

Use a resistor so the total (coil resistance + resistor) is about equal to the stock coil.

Re: GL1200 radio /casette player wanted

I have one, removed from an 86 aspencade. Since my 85 has an aftermarket system I cant test it, so it may work or may need service. I'd sell it if somebody wanted it. What is it worth to you plus shipping?

Re: Headlight Will Not Come On

My 1200 lost the headlight. It turned out to be the start switch. You can take the switch apart but be careful, there are springs inside. In any case you take the s=witch apart, clean out the gunk, get it clean! Then polish the four copper or brass dots and put it back together, that's it.

Re: Pulling carbs but stuck

I pulled the plugs and had plugs made to seal off the holes. Yes they have o rings and i used new ones (as you should) when resealing them. After trying it I realized that all I needed to do was to cut off the arm from the plug and seal with epoxy, then put o ring back on and reinstall. it makes no ...

Re: synchronizer my carburator,i need a good one tool!!

Doesn't matter which you hook up but I generally put the hoses to represent the cylinder numbers from left to right. 2,4,3,1 The cylinders are 2 O-O 1 4 O-O 3 That way the gauges are arranged each side next to each other. Here is a video showing this done: https://goldwingfacts.com/Videos/gl1200carb...

Re: Alternator conversion

"stator wires are still plugged in because when I unplug it the bike dies."

If that is true, then you aren't making power at your alternator or if you are making it then it doesn't get to the battery

Re: Alternator conversion

Have you measured the alternator output with a meter?

Which alternator did you use (wanting to know what wires are supposed to normally hooked up). as 3 wire alternators need at least two wires hooked up to make them start to produce electricity.

Re: aspencade digital cluster to replace gl1100 analog

Well to just name a few that I can think of: Speedo; uses an electronic sensor at the front wheel "axle" so you need to get a speedo "drive" and what ever it interacts with at the wheel. Gear; reads 1 through OD needs a switch inside the transmission (behind the water pump) Temperature; electronic ....

Re: Not charging

Check the three yellow wires that plug/unplug underneath the battery cover. The general consensus is to eliminate the plug and solder the wires together. Some suggest a new plug (and possibly ends) would fix it for another 30 years and others suggest aftermarket plugs of various sorts. My 85 needed ...
