Re: Fuel odor

In the past have you been in the habit of filling the tank above the small vent hole in the filler neck?
That vent goes to a charcoal filled canister, gas can drain into that vent, if the canister has a lot of liquid gas in it you can get fuel odors around the bike.

I hate it when I do that, the older I get the more often it happens.

Glad I could help.

Re: Electrical question for 2009 abs comfort navi

My concern is that fixing this is going to cause a larger bulk in the harness right where the problem is at its worst. So what is the best way to fix this? Here is a photo from a guy over on GL1800Riders forum, hope it helps. This is a somewhat common issue as the bikes get older, really poor execu...

Re: 2015 Questions

Evening all, have a couple of questions for the experts. I have a 2015 Gl1800, could someone tell me where the plug & play connections are for CB & trailer hitch? And, is there a way to adjust the handle bars, being tall, I find the handle bars a bit too close. Any help would be great. Cheers Rod I...

Re: Hit a deer

2009 GL1800 I'm looking for help finding the best way to get the fairing pcs off that will allow me to see if the radiator is leaking, or maybe it's just a hose cut or loose. Don't have a manual. What resources should I have, watch, or refer to? Thanks for the help. Here is a link that should help,...

Re: High pitched whine in the radio/electronics, need suggestions

There are no real components in the isolator - it's just a box of relays. Generally speaking, a whine like you're describing is usually attributable to a ground loop, but lifting the ground leg of the isolator will cause the isolator not to work, because the relay coils inside it need a ground in o...

Re: High pitched whine in the radio/electronics, need suggestions

That is a wiring diagram not a schematic. Without knowing what is inside the device there is no way to figure out what could be generating EMI. Bad suppression capacitor on a mechanical relay, sold state relay, or bad diode come to mind. And of course any kind of micro control as these are all the ...

I thought about that also, but as today the customer has not comeback with any additional information or feed back on troubleshooting results, so I am just in a wait and see mode , no news is good news so to say.

Re: High pitched whine in the radio/electronics, need suggestions

Thanks Greg, I am still waiting on a reply to the initial trouble shooting, if nothing works I will offer to send a new isolator to him that has a modification where he can unplug one leg of the ground circuit that may be creating a ground loop if necessary. I will have him send the first isolator b...

High pitched whine in the radio/electronics, need suggestions

I recently sold a plug and play trailer harness set up I make, to a rider on a 2017 Goldwing. After the install he tells me he has a high pitched whine in the radio/electronics that goes up and down with the throttle. I have sold literally hundreds of these setups to riders on all sorts of bikes and...

Re: Do you recall the first time you saw a Goldwing in person??

It was some time in 1976 in Fort Walton Beach, FL on Eglin AFB in front of the 33rd TFW Weapons Release shop, when my shift Sgt., Wendell Dudley rode his brand new red GL1000 to work and everyone gathered around to admire it. I could not believe what I was seeing.

Re: Pros and cons of back off brake unit

There are now LED BULBS with built in flashers. Doesn’t require a separate module. That is what I added to my 2008. Bulbs flash 5 times when applied, then go solid !! https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOViqjtptsAvPIakdLSO04iI4igtRCy6cVztUId That link does not work, but this one should, https://g...

Re: Led Tail Lights for 2010 GL1800

I installed something very similar on my 2013, see my post here, viewtopic.php?f=7&t=54139.

They are plug and play but on my 2013 I had to install a new contact and jumper wire in one of the sockets on each side, because they are wired for tail lights only.

Re: Brake light wire question?

So...along that line. You put in the Pulsating brake control, and test it out and it all works as stated. Now here is a issue, I switched all My bulbs on the bike to be LED bulbs as well as a new relay for the LED turn signal light. Now the pulsating control does not work anymore, but if I replace ...

Glad I cold help, you could use the Bushtec plastic bushings for the first rebuild and see how they last and keep the McMaster Car Bronze ones for later if needed.

Let us know how the final fix works out.

Re: Tried some new LEDs for the trunk Tail/Brake lights

The bike’s flasher is not involved, these lights are only for brake and tail lights, the brake lights are modulated by a flasher unit built into the bulbs by the manufacturer. You only need to worry about the bike’s flasher if you change the turn signals over to LEDs from OEM incandescent.

Tried some new LEDs for the trunk Tail/Brake lights

Had a tail light go out on me the other day so I decided to upgrade to LEDs, found theses on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V8M3LYL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They have a built in flash for the brake circuit. Re: Starter Problem

I agree with Andy, have the battery load tested, that will tell you if it is any good or not. The Goldwings are very picky about having the correct volts and amps to start. If the voltage drops below a certain point which I also believe is around 11.8 volts all the systems required for the bike to s...

Re: Which loctite?

Any thread locker will eventually destroy the ABS plastic on the bike. The plastic will craze and then start to crumble and at that point all you can do is replace it. Keep thread locker away from plastic parts. Okay. With all that in mind, would it be better to avoid even using a thread locker on ...
