Anyone do this recently. To me, it looks like it is almost possible or perhaps just drop exhaust headers a little?

Re: Detailing Bare Aluminum on Interstate 1200 Rims?

Yea, WD40 light stuff but the black on the rims popped nicely using it and I will use it in the future for this kind of maintenance. Might be wD's new calling in life :-)

Detailing Bare Aluminum on Interstate 1200 Rims?

I have my rear wheel off for spline lube and used a wheel/tire cleaner and a toothbrush to scrub off old brake dust. After the rinse and dry, I dipped a toothbrush in WD40 and scrubbed black paint area with WD40 and the dull black paint really popped and now looks dark and glossy. My question is, ar...

Thanks, bike has just been restarted after sitting a few years and fan kicked in the other day so it sounds like cleaning ground/contacts would be a worthwhile endeavor -thanks again

Re: Non Op Fan on '84 Interstate

Thanks, getting back to it again tomorrow after being away for a few days. I will recheck fuses BUT, is there a fusible link or remote fuse for fan or is it located in fuse block on top of air cleaner. Contacts may just be bad as bike has sat for a few years. Thanks again!

How Easy is it to warp heads/damage head gasket

I have a '84 Interstate that overheated tonight in driveway just approaching the red zone - in my excitement to clear carbs I failed to notice that fan was not kicking in - in theory, easy or hard to damage head gaskets by overheating - ambient temps were in the low 50's -thanks!

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

Success! I think I might have got lucky! Santa brought a new Mitsubishi fuel pump and upon changing filter and FP I started bike. It started fine but once again, as I attempted to rev engine, engine would start to choke and die. Bike idled for about ten minutes and would hold idle unchoked and gradu...

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

Iknow one thing, before I pull carbs I am going to install a working FP and then go from there - gravity feeding fuel may just be a big part of the current problem, thanks!

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

There was a clean looking set on EBay for 50.00 - I would clean/rebuild and swap out the same day and then rebuild second set and either sell or keep in storage for future needs -

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

I may just buy a used set of carbs and rebuild. I had drained floats originally after filling with seafoam - nothing looked bad running out, slight goldish color and that was it. Tank is full with Startron and Seafoam added. I was hoping there was a way to clean via intake or other, at least to get ...

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

seems like I could pull diaphragms and shoot some carb clean down carb throats to clean out idle circuit and then take bike on a ride to clear things out. My goal for now is to get bike running normally to make other assessments but a carb tear down in the spring seems to be in order.

Re: 1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Need

Thanks, yes, I have the skills. I wish there was a fogging agent of some kind that I could slowly introduce via intake. There are some excellent tutorials on removing the rack so . . . . . . here I go (again :-))!

1984 GL 1200 Clean Carbs without Removing Procedure Needed

My 1984 bike has not run (until yesterday) for about 2 years I believe (new bike, history unknown) I flushed tank, it's now full with fresh fuel, Seafoam and Startron. I filled floats with seafoam after draining old fuel out which did not look bad, floats soaked for four days and what came out was l...

Thanks, I just noted that the lights came on with ignition switch on but did not note if there was a cutoff upon pressing starter - this will make things much easier!
