Re: Oldie but Goodie: Aftermarket Oil Dipstick

I would imagine so. But, when I drain my oil, I actually remove the adapter from the block. I get a much better flow that way. I have, though, drained it by just removing the tube but it takes longer to drain.

Re: Oldie but Goodie: Aftermarket Oil Dipstick

Oldie, yes that is a threaded nipple with a compression fitting. I believe it uses a 1/4" brass ferrule. I usually have to change the ferrule every other oil change and a little pipe dope help keeps it nice and dry.

Re: vinegar or carb cleaner ?

You may just want to boil them in distilled water. I have done this on both my wing carbs and the came out perfect. Of course Randakk's kit played a big part in that as well.

Re: Oldie but Goodie: Aftermarket Oil Dipstick

This is the setup on my 83 Naked. I picked it up on eBay for like $20. Very useful.

Re: Carb settings 81 GL 1100

Just so that this is clear for everyone, it's 1 1/4 turns out from a soft seat for the 80 and 81 models. For 82 and 83 it's 3 turns out.

Re: Gl1100 starter aftermarket

SneakyPete, the starter is made by Rick's Motorsport. It has four brushes and a permanent magnet You can probably get more info on their website buy here is a link to one on eBay but you can pretty much get them anywhere. The price is usually around the same but well worth it IMHO. https://www.ebay....

Re: Float needle and seats

I received my order from partsnmore this afternoon. Turns out the float needle set is made by Keyser and they are made in Japan. They look to be quality parts and are about the same size. I haven't done any measurements or taken any pics yet but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience, good...

Re: Fuel Gauge Help

Thanks Cosmo and AZ. I happened to find a nice, clean sender from a 81 on ebay today at a good price so I picked that up. I'll save the 80 for my other project. Cosmo, BTW, my parts listing shows the same sender unit, P/N 37800MB9-950, for all three versions of the 83. I just had to clarify that so ...

Re: Fuel Gauge Help

First off, thanks for all the help and suggestions as always. I do have another couple of questions though. The parts manual shows three different part numbers for the fuel sender unit (1 for 80, 1 for 81/82 and 1 for 83) and the same tank part number for all 4 years. I have a spare sender unit from...

Re: Gl1100 starter aftermarket

Nope, all you should have to remove is the shift lever. The front bolt can be removed/installed using a swivel joint. There is a good article in the DIY section on this fantastic site. I followed it and had no problems. Might as well change out that shift lever oil seal while you are at it. If its n...

Re: Gl1100 starter aftermarket

Dingdong, for what it's worth, I put a Rick's Motorsport starter on my 82 a couple of years ago. At first it seemed that I couldn't get my thumb off the starter button fast enough. Still working strong.

Will do WingAdmin! If the parts do measure up correctly, I could even post a couple of side by side pics if you want.

Re: Float needle and seats

Well I decided to pull the trigger on the parts. I figured for $50 (1 less round of golf) that it's worth a shot. My concern is that the parts are not the same dimensionally and might throw off the float height measurement. I will do a side by side comparison and take measurements to make sure that ...

Float needle and seats

I was wondering if anyone has tried the float needles and seats offered by partsnmore that are made in Japan? I am in the middle of my carb refurbishment and as you probably already know, the needles and seats are not included in Randakk's kit. I have a couple of questionable float needles (spring s...

Re: Fuel Gauge Help

Thanks, that's what I thought. For a minute there I thought that I might have been losing it. Already been soaking for a couple of days now. I did bend the three tabs back and removed the cover first to make sure that the inside gets nice and clean as well. I was also careful not to mess with that t...

Re: Fuel Gauge Help

Cosmo and John, thanks for the help. I removed the tank yesterday and dropped it off for a good cleaning and sealing at a local shop that does a superb job on gas tanks. My float has been soaking in vinegar for two days now but I do have a spare. I will try the spare to check the circuit as suggeste...

Re: Fuel Gauge Help

Thank you WingAdmin for the very fast response. When I take the gauge off to install your new 7 volt regulator, I will have a look see. Without doing my research first, are there any tips on checking out the gauge condition?

Fuel Gauge Help

I am having an issue with my fuel gauge and am looking for a little help. My temp gauge is working fine so, according to what I have read, it is not my 7 volt regulator. The temp gauge needle seems to be sticking. When I fill the tank, the gauge does move but not to the full level but if I tap the g...

Re: Vacuum Advance is it really needed ?

I recently overhauled my carbs on my 83 Naked using the kit from Randakk's and also used the carb Repair Guide written by Howard Halasz. During reinstallation of the carbs, Howard has you perform a leak-down test on your vacuum spark advance on the pulse generator. He says that if the test passes, a...
