Re: Austone Taxi Tire

I'm running my second Austone Taxi Tire on my 93 GL1500I. It needs replaced, approaching the wear bars in the center tread. My Interstate came with a single air shock. I have to keep that air shock at its maximum pressure and it does NOT bottom out with my 180 lbs. riding solo. When I say bottom ou...

Follow the battery ground cable to the three bolt engine mount. Brighten that lug and grounding surface up with sandpaper.

Re: GL1100 won't turn over with spark plugs installed

What is the battery condition? Freshly charged @>12.5 volts? If not, do so (or jump-start it from a NOT-RUNNING car/truck). If you're trying to SELL it, tell us your location . Plus, someone nearby might lend you a hand. The 83 is one of the favorite years (1st true overdrive 5th gear, cast wheels, ...

Re: signal wiring troubleshooting

I'd go right back to the fuse holder. Why? My 82's headlamp would go out, very random, but typically right after startup. "Everyone" condemned my start switch, over and over. Turns out that the fuse holder had dirty contact points worn into it AND the spring pressure to hold the fuse was quite weak....

Re: Cant get piston back in

I use a deepwell socket that fits well in the piston bore. That gives you better control of the angle of the piston to the seal and lends mechanical advantage. I've never needed more than hand pressure. You call it an 82 (which has dual piston calipers) but only refer to "piston" as if it were the e...

Re: water in oil of newly acquired 82 1100 standard

Get Honda or Vesra head gaskets, you get what you pay for. I would pull both heads, clean off the carbon deposits on valves and head. Lap the valves (grinding NOT recommended due to Stellite coating), inspect/measure the valve springs, replace the valve stem seals (rubber). I'd be leery that the cra...

With a project like you describe, I would zero-time as much as I could afford. Replace timing belts ---Consider installing new or modified belt tensioners Remove heads, lap the valves, replace the valve guide rubber seals, install new head gaskets New Water Pump, new thermostat, test the radiator fa...

Re: Wont turn over ( crank )

Not only was that WEIRD but a potentially catastrophic ENGINE FAILURE can result if you don't fix that sticking #2 carburetor float. Hydrolock can bend your piston connecting rods. At the very least, put a full can of Berryman B12 into a 1/2 tank of gas for your next long ride. Might clean that floa...

Tell us more about the oil you used, particularly describe what is in the bottom half of the arc in this symbol (click the link below - it's safe). https://www.api.org/news-policy-and-issues/news/2016/05/17/new-diesel-recommendation-donut Using the wrong oil could have burnt up your (wet) clutch. 1800 hands down.
Loved my 1500, but except for cargo space, the 1800 is far superior. In every way.

Research replacing rear tire of each.
You're welcome.

Re: How to price a bike for sale

I just sold my 93 daily driver with 112,xxx miles for $1200 and was happy with that. I listed it for $1700, knowing what work it needed (rear tire, leaky air shock, perhaps brake pads). I gave the buyer a low time (trike removal) set of shocks and two sets of brake pads. It's worth what a buyer is w...

Bleed that hand brake at the MC banjo bolt several times, then move down to bleed the caliper.

Tie the hand brake engaged and leave it tied overnight.

Re: 96 gl1500 no spark

Welcome! My 93 sometimes sits for months on end. Upon reawakening, I recharge the battery overnight, apply full choke and crank the starter over for several 4-6 second turn-overs. This is to get fuel flowing and fill the bowls. I do not expect it to start. Then I walk away and either recharge the ba...

Re: 1983 GL1100 Self Cancelling Turn Signals shut off immediately

There are only a few parts to the self-cancel subsystem. First, check out the angle sensor that is on the underside of the steering. It has two wires. Reading those two connections at the steering head, they should change value (ohms) when returning handlebars to center from left and right. There is...

Re: Front forks anti dive

The practical effect of having the single right side anti-dive (like my 93 IS) is that you will find yourself intuitively using the right handlebar brake which actuates the front right caliper only, more vigorously. I replace the right front pads twice as often as the LF and rear. You'll notice imme...

Both heads are identical, interchangeable, same part (except for the cams), so that hole must not be used on that side.

Read about them on other forums with positive comments.
