Re: Which wing?

Good choice. and I'm sure you will do some maintenance on it just to be sure. Most 1500 owners do NOT change the timing belts. Everything can look great and have great maintenance records but some things I would make sure were done Timing belts changed Drive shaft removed and splines greased at 100K...

Re: Has anyone ever made a "rat bike" out of a 1500?

I have to respond to this. I do NOT understand the whole "rat rod" or "rat bike" thing. Why would anyone take the time to build something that looks like a piece of crap? Every time I see one of these things, all I can think is that the guy was just too lazy to finish it. When I started reading you...

Re: Show Chrome Low Contour Rack Install Question

When I did the rack on my 02 (I didn't have one on my 08) I removed the inner trunk liner, Use star washers and remember do not overload the rack. I used it to carry my cold weather jacket and gloves. An I used it as a handle to open and close the trunk.

Re: Voltmeter Install

Another option for that voltmeter install would be one of the "ignition/gauge" panel. You could install TWO 2" gauges/meters on those panels along with an extra USB charging port or what ever you want. They look great and "fitment' is same as the original. Re: Left saddle bag will not open

If all else fails you can probably find a used bag on line or from a trike dealer and rip the old one off the bike. It will be a lot cheaper than paying a dealer

I used a mushroom patch/plug to repair the rear tire. Took a short 60 mile ride on it yesterday and seems to have done the job....

Re: Tire repair

When I bought my new Kawasaki 1400 back in 09 it came with TPMS. When I had new tires put on the dealer recommended Ride-on be put in the tires. While the bike was very smooth it did destroy the senders in the tires, They replaced them at no cost to me. So I wouldn't recommend that if you have a TPMS

I don't use K&N filters but if it's that hard to get an OEM you should look into a reusable one like K&N so you don't have to try and find one every time you have to change it

Re: Work planned over this winter

On the linked brakes, the brake pedal activates the rear brake and the left front brake. The brake lever is only for right front disc. Manual says to bleed front (left front) first, then rear. Basically start with the one furthest from the master. The clutch might only need to be bled also and not r...

Re: Gear Indicator Light

If I remember correctly an after market used to make a gear indicator to go in that empty space in the dash. Of course the 1500 wing hasn't been made for several years so a lot of the after market stuff that used to be made for them are no longer around

Re: oil pan warmer/heater?

. I don't have that problem since I'm in Calif and don't have to worry about temps getting that bad. And my garage is not heated but fully insulated. Anyway, can't you get some kind of insulated blanket or something like the ones used to wrap a water heater and wrap it up under the bike? Get a small...

Since Honda came out with the comfort package there has been a lot of trouble. When I bought my new wing back in 08 I bought the base model, It is easy and cheaper to add heated stuff to the base model

Re: What would you stick in here?

I know there are still several good running 1500 wings out there but UI don't think there would be Gabi demand for that panel. Just think about how many you would have to sell to make your original investment back for producing them.

I don't remember the name of the company that made those but you could get it that way and install your own gauges or buy it with a volt meter and temp meter installed

Re: 1800 Alternator

It's mechanical, anything can happen at any time. Just like the front end wobble on the 1800 wings, some have it, some don't. I have owned 3 1500 wings only had alternator problems on my 92 with about 60,000 miles on it, had to replace the brushes, never had a problem with the other 1500's or my 2 1...

Re: speedometer acting up

There are several recalls and service bulletins on the 01 and later Gold Wings. Frame re weld was one of them. Go to a dealer and they can run your VIN and find out what needs to be completed. There also was one for over heating. Safety recalls never expire and can be done at any time BUT I THINK, n...

Some states here in the US require a separate tag for the trailer, some do not. years back when we were at Wing Ding I noticed a lot of trailers without a license plate on them, I don't remember which state they were from but the owners said their state does not require a license plate for a trailer...

Re: Air cleaner change

One of the hardest things about it is some of the plugs are hard to disconnect. And when you put it back together make sure you hear a CLICK when you put the plugs back together. A common problem after an air filter change is that something doesn't work, it is usually caused by a plug not being conn...
