Re: starter rebuild

Put the new springs on your old plate, that way you can unscrew the old brushes and screw on the new ones, also, don't use the cheap brushes most guys sell in the rebuild kit, they won't last but a couple months....if you're lucky. Buy Honda brushes.

Re: fixing broken fairing -mirror mount

Thank you, Thank you!!!!! Mine broke yesterday and I said, I am NOT buying a whole faring.. I hear ya!!!, when I took mine apart and found it broke, I thought, no way I'm buying a fairing just for that.....There has to be a way. Take your time to fit it to the contour of the fairing and once on you...

Re: Probably dumbest question ever

Actually I think what you are looking at is color coding tubes. I bet if you look, you will see lets say "OR tube" on your diagram, if you find that wire on the bike it is probably a black wire with an orange band (or tube) on it near the plug.

Re: Eagles Head Wiring on GL1200I

Where should the wire run down by the fender? It was broken off and shorted, so I don't know whether it goes into the head on top of the fender or comes up from underneath. '87 GL1200I Thanks, Mike Head ? i'm guessing this is some aftermarket thing? The stock front fender has no light, the intersta...

Re: 1986 Aspencade choke cable replacement - HELP!!!!!

there is a clamp on the air box you will not get to unless you remove the carb assy, at least slide it out until you can get to the screw, carbs really come out pretty easy, even if you have never done it 30 minute job, just watch "O"rings on intakes going back in. Not a very good picture, just one ...

Re: carb sync question

Re: Plastic Welding

OK to nice looking hot air plastic welders, for those who do a fair amount of plastic repairs. But at those prices not many will let loose of that kind of money. Almost everyone who do their own repairs will have a soldering iron of one kind or another. Most soldering iron tips are changeable or on...

2016 vintage show at Le May Museum

Went to the vintage show again this year, took two bikes this time (had my brother ride one, too hard to shift two at a time). My '86XL600R (pictured to right of the wing) and my '86 aspy. I wondered how many people would be there this year because it was the same day as the Good Guys car show at Pu...

Re: Plastic Welding

I've done quite a lot of plastic"welding". It's actually a fusion process, and is done best with a hot air "torch". You melt the plastic, but not too much, and work the puddle just as though you are heli-arcing.There are ABS rods available through plastics suppliers if you need to add to the puddle...

Re: carb sync question

I would crank some, thats the only time the fuel pump pumps. Let your starter rest also so it doesn't overheat. Your float valves maybe hanging up....closed. Not letting gas in the bowel. twocams agree, it does take longer than you think to fill the carbs, I unplugged the power to mine and jumped i...

Re: Plastic Welding

I have a plastic welder, not a soldering iron, a plastic welder, it took some getting used to but once you get the hang of it and don't just burn things, it works pretty good. I think for the 700.00 it cost you can find other things that would work for what you want. I bought it to fix the nipple on...

Re: New Owner - Major Question

if it has only sat for a year, I would drain gas from tank and carbs, change oil. either wire up ignition or replace wire harness and see what it does. you could pull the spark plugs, the plug behind the stator and turning clockwise, see if it turns over first if your worried about it being frozen.

Re: 79 GL1000

There is no coolant leaking, only oil, so what seal would cause this? The pump has a seal for coolant at the impeller end and a seal for oil at the rear where the drive is, my guess is because it is oil and not coolant it is the oil seal on the water pump. Pull the front cover, remove water pump an...

Re: 79 GL1000

can this hole be plugged without adverse effects? NO.....that hole is there to let coolant or oil out if seal is bad. If you have a water pump seal going out you need to pull the front cover and replace the seals at the very least, pump should be replaced as long as you're there but that's your cal...

yup, probably the pump, you should drain/clean the tank and fuel lines all the way to injectors. You MAY....I said MAY be able to get pump running again if you remove the pump, place it protected the a vice or some means of holding it and using two small leads from a battery, try powering it correct...
