Re: Dead radio after Reverse

Not sure but doesn't the radio turn off when you put it in reverse..if so..then I'd be looking into the reverse switches.Maybe yhe radio doesn't know it's in the go mode. The radio just mutes when you push the start button, in reverse or not. Reverse itself should have no effect on the radio coming...

Doesn't matter really but I always put them where the Keihin logo is right side up looking at it from the outside.

Re: Headlight connection after fairing removal

If it was a Honda fairing the wiring will be behind the cast iron weight attached to the forks. If it was a Vetter the junk wiring will just plugged into the original harness.

Re: Water pump - How bad is bad ?

No, the water pump is not worn out but time has killed the seal. It will probably never leak real bad but it's probably not going to heal up.

Re: anyone with an '85 please take pic of regulator

That thing is trouble in the making, it plugs in between the regulator and wiring harness and just adds another connection to have trouble with. It is an added on radio noise suppressor. Leave it out and plug the reg directly into the harness.

The flasher is behind the instrument cluster. A bear to get to on the 01-05 models.

I wouldn't worry 1 minute about the miles. There are lots of them out there with 2 & 300,000 on them still going strong.

It all works through the radio, if the radio is removed the CB won't work.

I am going to replace all the light bulbs I can with LED ones, in the hopes that the stator will last a bit longer.

.
The load on the stator doesn't change when you reduce the load on the system. The less power you use the hotter the regulator gets.

Re: '80 GL1100 STD/Vetters vs Interstate

An original standard is worth more. I like the looks of an interstate over a vetterized bike. The Vetter stuff always looks like it's been added on, not natural.

Re: 2010 cruise control not working

Cruise control not working. Also reverse light comes on for a half a second then goes to nuteral. The reverse light is supposed to do that, bulb check, along with some other lights when you turn the switch on. Cruise not working is normally one of the switches on the brakes or clutch. The rear brak...

Re: 2003 GL1800 bad gas?

An 1800, & later 1500s will not crank with the kill switch off. Something I'm glad they did. If it was bad gas it wouldn't have ran that 5 miles home.
A no start can be hard to diagnose from a distance. Check for spark first.

You have them connected to the wrong wires. Use the solid orange & light blue, not the striped ones. The orange/white & lt blue/white are the front position lights and behave like you describe.

Ok so I have a 1976 Honda Gl1000 and I only have spark on 3/4, no spark on 1/2. I have new spark plugs, spark plug caps, fuse battery, and solenoid. Both coils read in the normal range. When I switch the wires 1/2 sparks. So what is casusing this?
Which wires are you switching?

Re: GL1100 running lean?

I thought the pilot screws on our Wings was an "air" screw, not a "fuel" screw. I thought that if the screw is on the engine side of the butterfly it would be a fuel screw...ours are on the outside of the butterfly. You can see the tip of the screw if you pull off an intake tube. Winding the screw ...

The green wires are ground wires for the RR, they can be left loose but bolting them to ground would be a good thing.

Have a good look at the connectors to the control unit, sometimes a terminal will get pushed back out of a connector and not make good contact. Also look at the pins in the control unit and make sure they are all straight.

Does it have points or has it been converted to electronic ignition? There is a ballast resistor before the coils so 7v might be normal.
