Re: Carb rebuil kits

Really all you need for a 1200, unless it needs diaphragms, is 4 OE kits, not expensive https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1984/gl1200-a-gold-wing/carburetor-comp-parts or a kit from Randakks , which is pricey but good https://www.randakks.com/randakks-own-gl1200-master-carb-overhaul...

Re: GL1800 cooling fan wiring modification kit

That will only help if your temperature problem is when running 15 to 20 MPH. Is that your issue? You don't need a "kit" to do it anyway, just reverse the wires in the fan connector and if the fans are coming on at a little over 1/2 on the gauge why would you need a manual switch?

The alarm is an add on, probably came with a remote. The only thing to do is remove it.

Re: Ignition Coil (check out of curcuit)

You can ohm check the primary and secondary windings but that won't tell you if it is arcing to ground or not. I haven’t tried it, but I think there’s more to the primary side than just a coil and measuring it won’t help determine it’s condition. It is just a coil but true, an ohm check won't tell ...

Double check that dogbone. I had one that looked fine but when removed it crumbled in my hand. Then replace it with a much better blade type. Plenty of how -to's on that on this sight. Keep us posted!
That dogbone fuse was probably 35 years old, sure the blade fuse will last that long?

Re: Master cylinder identification

Looks pretty spiffy, why does it need a rebuild? You may have to go by the bore size which should be cast into the case somewhere.

Re: chasing short in turn signals

It's not a short, it is a bad connection. On the main harness on the left side near the front of the gas tank is a orange connector taped in the harness, it may have some burned connections. You can't see it but it is an obvious block under the tape.

Re: while i have my carbs out ...

while the carbs are out of the way, and the monsoons have let up for a bit, i have access to what looks like a coolant temperature sender and an oil pressure switch. is there any way to test these while the bike is not running ? While I have never known either one on an 1100 to fail you can connect...

Re: Neutral Switch Wiring 81 GL1100 vs 83 GL1100A

Yeah, I was thinking of using the front cover from the 83, since it already has the hole and grommet fit perfectly. However I am not sure what you mean by the fork, or shift drum. Can you clarify? Would it be as easy as plug and play if I use the 83 front cover? That sure would be amazingly nice. I...

Honda warranty people indicated they had never previously seen this happen.
I've heard of it a few times. A friend of mine had the same thing happen on his 03, repaired under warranty.

A lot of people are using tires that are not directional and different tread side to side. I just prefer directional tires with the same tread on both sides.

Re: Neutral Switch Wiring 81 GL1100 vs 83 GL1100A

Yep, the neutral switch on the 81 is on the side of the block and the 83 is in the front cover. Not sure if the fork from the 83 will work on the 81 shift drum, haven't tried that. You would have to use the 83 front cover which will fit, no problem.

They will come out. You have to put the screw in tight and I use side cutters to grip the screw and lever against the main jet tower, I doubt anyone is strong enough to just pull them straight out.

Re: can the air pump on a 82 gl1100A pump other stuff up to?

As I rember, there's a air pressure switch on the rear right side. One wire to it...disconnect the wire and the light goes off. No, disconnect the wire and the light comes ON. Ground the wire and the light should go off, that will tell if the switch is bad. The switch is behind the right side cover m...

Re: pop quiz

The first thing I thought of on the knock is a bent connecting rod. You might be able to determine that by removing the spark plugs, setting the crank to T1 then T2 and check if the pistons on 2 & 4 are the same distance from the top. The smoking is probably not the valve stem seals, it is the pisto...

Re: GL1000 Clutch issue

You probably need to adjust the clutch push rod. Loosen the cable all the way off, remove the cover on the back of the engine, 2 screws, loosen the lock nut and turn the screw clockwise until you feel resistance then back it off 1/2 to 3/4 turn and tighten the lock nut then re-adjust the cable.

Do the timing belts for sure & clean the oil screen as already mentioned. How many miles on it & how much are you willing to spend?
1 tip, just unbolt the intake runners from the heads and tie the carbs up to the frame.

Re: Just got a "new to me" 2006 ~ Question.

There is always a slight tick from the injectors, easily heard at idle. Yes they do seem too low geared but will run as fast as you want to go all day. Lowest MPG I ever got was about 36, pulling a trailer with a passenger or running twistys hard. Mine is very finicky about getting it full, have to ...

Very possible with their age the batteries in them have died. They can be replaced. https://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-goldwing-technical-forum/565674...

So it's an insta trike thing? If you could find a car tire that would fit the front it would probably work but there is no such thing that I know of.

That's about as bad as it gets. Been lots of those around here lately, the state is spreading that stuff like it's going out of style. I wish they would give warning at the last intersection where it is possible to re-route.
