Re: Rear brakes not engaging after rebuild

I see you have an 83, did you also bleed the right front (or is it left, can't remember), it is linked to the rear brake.

Re: Electrical issue, GL 1800

Did you charge that spare battery before you installed it? 5 minutes run time is not enough to recover what you used starting the engine. It will recover some when left off for a while, maybe enough to restart it but not enough to keep everything on for long with the engine stopped.

Re: Which oil pressure sensor to order?

They are all the same part. Honda's parts system is loaded down with duplicate parts, they could save a lot of space if they figured that out. What's amazing in this case is they are all the same price.

I was hoping someone had an easy fix, like pulling the nozzle out, and just pressing it back in without damage.
They seem to be pressed in pretty tight, I wouldn't try to remove them. I have done the bent wire thing, not easy but it can be done.

Is it possible that all this trouble is coming from a shorted out RR?.

Stuart.
Is it possible that's why I suggested you disconnect it?

Re: Do spark plugs really go bad? (Ponderment)

Most of these replys are something that happened TO a spark plug before it's normal life expectancy, not the plug's fault it failed. I have seen bad plugs new out of the box, it happens, but once the proper plugs are installed and running correctly they usually last far longer then the recommended c...

Some have a radio noise suppressor connected inline with the reg/rec but there is only one connector on the RR if it's OEM.

Re: Engine temp issues after pump replacement

When the bike is running, it doesn't leak a bit. However, when sitting in the garage in the cold overnight, the hose leaks ever so slightly. I have also noticed my engine temp climbing to higher than *normal* temperatures when idling, barely over halfway up the gauge, which I don't think I ever saw...

Re: 1987 Gl1200 engine into 1982 gl1100 frame

And I forgot about the driveshaft. The 1100 uses a snap ring to hold the coupling to the output shaft, the 1200 uses a spring in the driveshaft to hold the coupling forward. The usual fix is to change the output shaft but I think I would either drill and tap the coupling for a set screw or put a spr...

Re: Clutch adjust cover Gasket / O ring

I see what you mean, the o-ring doesn't seem to be in the parts catalog, at least not where you would expect. An o-ring of the same approximate size should do fine, it doesn't have to hold oil in just keep dirt and water out.

Re: 1987 Gl1200 engine into 1982 gl1100 frame

It's really no problem, it bolts right in. The only problem is the ignition system. If it were my project I would use the entire 1200 ignition. Should be no problem to wire in the ignition module from the 1200.

Under the rear of the seat, a grey 14 pin connector, check the green wire in it for burning. It's not a short, just a bad connection.

Re: oil filter housing alignment

They don't have to be exactly aligned, there is a little wiggle room, but if you will look at the filter can on 1 side there are no ridges, this goes toward the water pump cover. If you get it turned to where the ribs are against the water pump cover the can won't seat properly.

No additives are needed with modern oils. The only thing you might want to use would be something to clean out the engine then change the oil.

Re: Misaligned cam wheels? Help!

Just lucky if you haven't already bent some valves. Turn the engine to the T1 mark, then back about 1/4 turn, then remove the belts and turn the cam pulleys so the up mark is up, then turn the engine forward to the T1 mark and reinstall the belts.

Re: starter solenoid problems

You will need to figure out which is which especially if it's not an OEM part. There will be 2 terminals which are hot, the red wires go to those, the other 2 wires go to the other 2 terminals, doesn't matter which. Be sure also the battery and starter cables are connected to the right posts, the ba...

Re: Do spark plugs really go bad? (Ponderment)

Spark plugs seldom just go bad. Sometimes they get fouled which isn't the fault of the plug. I have seen 1 spark plug actually worn out in a 1 cylinder motorcycle , the electrode worn off to up inside the porcelain, but it still ran. All the bad spark plugs I have seen were bad when new, probably ha...

Do the grip heaters work? Most of the time the problem is with one of the grip heaters, if one of those goes bad it shuts down the whole system.
