Re: '99 1500 Maintenance

Those carbs are not bad to work on AFTER you get them out of the cramped space they occupy. Getting them out and then back in is the hard part. The float bowl gaskets are what is causing the leak. My 94 was leaking at the bowl gaskets and it was running down the drain tubes and dripping on my exhaus...

It sounds to me like the high beam relay is going bad. Swap it out with another relay in the relay box and see what happens.

Re: Tulsa extra-tall windshield mounting

What I remember most about the Tulsa Tall is me bumping my head on it a lot when getting on the bike. They give great wind protection when riding behind them, but they come so far over into where my head wants to be when getting on the bike, I kept hitting my helmet on it. I didn't like that and I d...

Re: Accessory terminal reads lower than Battery

To add to what Mh434 said about the voltage drop... I also have a power plug (cigarette lighter type) wired to the accessory terminal. When I am charging something from that point, the voltage on the voltmeter drops quite a bit under those circumstances also. I attribute that to the small wiring fee...

Re: Accessory terminal reads lower than Battery

Well FYI, my voltmeter is wired to the accessory terminal also and it reads about .8 volts lower than a direct reading on the battery too. I know it reads that low, so I can tell if something is amiss with the charging system if it suddenly goes lower than what it normally reads.

Re: Can we start a CURRENT car tire thread? What is available?

WingAdmin posted this answer from Universal Vintage Tire about the Austone. Bad news. I just got off the phone with one of the sales reps at Universal Vintage Tire. The news is not good. He said they have 19 tires left in stock, and once they're gone, they're gone for good. He said the factory is no...

Re: Accessory terminal reads lower than Battery

Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears the + accessory terminal is connected directly to the output of the accessory terminal fuse. Have you tried cleaning the terminals where that fuse plugs in?

Re: New Member, COOLING FAN advice please

You don't have to remove the radiator to get the fan out. The are two bolts to remove and unplug the connector and then it comes out. It is not easy to get it out or back in because there is precious little room to work there but it is doable. Getting it back in is harder than removing it. There is ...

Yes, that is how the diagram shows it. The white wire goes to the battery and the black/green wire is switched battery from ignition.

See if this diagram from the service manual is what you are looking for. It shows the wiring for the charging system.

Re: GRRR! Another hour spent tryng to align the drive shaft and u-Joint!

Here is how I got mine back in. When I took mine out to lube the splines, I removed the lower shock bolts on both sides. This leaves the swingarm able to move up and down freely. When reinstalling the final drive, I raised up the swingarm and put a short piece of wood (1x4) across the mufflers and u...

I'm pretty sure that blue line the vacuum source for your cruise control. When you get that line loose, I'll bet the cruise will start working.
Here is a vacuum diagram for the 1500s. Sure are a lot of vacuum lines on these things!

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Yes that item #1 is for the gasket set that contains the fuel bowl gaskets. The first one is right I think... they list those differently because they have been superseded by another part #. You could click on the chat button and ask them if you are unsure. The guy that was in there before you worki...

Re: Trouble with solenoids

When you get access to that reverse lever switch, you might be able to get it working again by spraying some contact cleaner in it and operating the lever a few times. It could be just some dirty contacts in it and that will get it working again.

Re: Trouble with solenoids

Yes, you need to remove that side panel that is covering the reverse shaft coming out the side there by your left knee. After you have the tupperware off, you will see the reverse lever switch that Erdinez posted a picture of up near the top of this thread. That switch probably is the source of your...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

The gaskets you are looking for come as a set of several different ones. It is item #1 in that diagram and you will have to get two of them if you want one for each carb. On the vacuum lines, I think you are going to have to get them from a parts store and make your own. There are 3 or 4 different s...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

There will be no adjustments made to anything if you only replace the fuel bowl gaskets. You just remove the screws (4 of them I think) from each bowl and remove it. Then replace the gaskets and put the fuel bowls back on. Done. Be careful with the floats while you have the bowls off. You don't want...

Re: Trouble with solenoids

If you are sure you are on the yellow/red wire going to the A relay, then we need to see where we are losing the battery voltage. Turn the ignition switch on. Now turn on the cruise control by pushing in the cruise on/off button. Does the cruise light on the dash come on? Also try grounding that bro...

So I tested it and I get nothing with the negative on red/brown and positive on red/yellow while pushing the start button. Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

If it was me, I would at least consider putting new fuel bowl gaskets on there while you have them in your hands. Judging by where you said you saw it dripping fuel and by what I saw on mine when I had them down, that is where your fuel leak is. That is my suggestion anyway.

Re: Trouble with solenoids

The relay B is working or else it would not start when you bridge across the A relay terminals. Put a voltmeter or test light on the yellow/red wire going to relay A. You should have battery voltage there when the ignition switch is on and you push the starter button. You should have a ground on the...
