Re: Gas Mileage Seems Low

I've been giving her some throttle but nothing compared to how I ride the Magna. I'm still trying to get used to getting up and off the line without being all herky-jerky and redlining. I'm so used to a 9500 redline and this 5500 is killing me. I think I see why your gas mileage is suffering!...

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

Mike is right. Before ordering new PGs, make another test to be sure they are bad. There is a 4 pin White connector (C63) above the right cooling fan. That is where the PGs can be tested to further isolate where the problem is. This is the page from the manual. If you will PM me your email, I have s...

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

That seems to be your problem. Usually the PGs in the 1500s are very reliable but stuff does happen. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Re: Front Lower Lights

They were probably added by a PO. The Interstate model didn't have those lights, I don't believe. On the SE and Aspencade they were cornering lights and they would come on with the turn signal on the side your were turning toward. The later models, (98-00?) they were running lights and came on with ...

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

All that sounds good. Did you make the tests for the pulse generators (PG)? That was on one of the pages I sent earlier. Here is the page with highlites where you need to test. If that is good, I am running out of ideas.

Re: Aux input for the cassette deck ??? HELP!

Here is a link to how to modify the GL1500 radio for the aux input. This is similar to how WingAdmin did his but this uses a relay and I think he said he used an electronic controller. I did mine this way and it works great.

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

I was looking back at your previous posts on the symptoms and noticed that you said the tach did not move when cranking. That blew by me when I first read it but that may be significant. Check the connector on the ECM. Take it loose and look at the pins for broken, bent or corroded pins. While you h...

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

Those readings on the angle sensor look right but that is not your trouble anyway. If it will spin over with the starter all is good with it. At the C54 connector where you measured the 12 volts at the blk/wht wire: Be sure the ignition switch is off and measure with an ohm meter between the blk/wht...

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

I think you need to take the switch module off on the right handlebar with the kill switch on it. Then measure the voltage on the kill switch contacts with the ignition switch turned on. Check both side of the switch to make sure voltage is coming through it. Put your screwdriver on the screw termin...

What is the 10th digit of the VIN? If it is a "J" then you have an 88.

Re: 1991 gl1500 se will not start

Your 1991 GL1500 does not run the fuel pump for a couple of seconds when the key is switched on. That was only the 88-89 models. You should have the pump running when cranking it and when it is running. See if you have voltage going to the pump when you are cranking it.

Re: Proud New Owner

The how-to by WingAdmin that Stew referred to is a great place to get information on replacing the timing belts. You might want to consider getting the NAPA part # 250275 or Gates part # T275 for the timing belt instead of the ones from Honda. They will be less than half the price as getting them fr...

Re: Proud New Owner

The 10th digit of the VIN tells what the year is. If it is a 94, the digit will be R. A 96 will be T. Also you should be able to see on the steering neck a plate that tells the year with the VIN.

Re: Hot legs, is this normal? (I am not a woman lol)

The levers on my air ducts were also creeping back down when I got mine. When I had the lower fairing panels off I noticed that the lever pivot point was loose. It is just a crosspoint screw holding it and if you tighten it up a bit the lever will stay in position.

Did replacing the slave cylinder fix the leak? The current problem sounds like a bad clutch master cylinder. Sounds like the fluid is leaking past the seal when holding the clutch in.

Re: Interstate Aux input on a SE?

That is the same FM adapters that I have, ISimple IS31. I have to say I like them as well as you do. For my Silverado I had to get the antenna adapter cords also because the Chevy has the small antenna leads. The antenna connectors on the Goldwing didn't need any adapters and everything just plugged...

Re: Interstate Aux input on a SE?

I have been using the FM modulator type that plugs in series with the antenna line. It sounds just fine to me, but I quite possibly have a tin ear :D . I have one in my old 02 Chevy Silverado also. The audio level is down just a little but from the radio signal but not enough to matter. Just a littl...

Re: What is this?

Does your bike have a heel/toe shifter on the other side? Mine had something like that on it when I got it and it had the heel/toe shifter. That brake pedal is not the stock one either. Mine looked like that also. I think that is part of the package when they bought the shifter kit.

All Balls brand bearings are a good choice. You can get them at Cyclemax. They have them listed on their site and should be in stock if you see them on their site.

For some reason, I could not open the file that "spiralout" posted. Don't know why it didn't work for me. Here is a set of instructions I found on one of these Goldwing forums several years ago that tells how to adjust the headlights on the older 1500s. The newer ones with the clear headlight lens d...

My CB radio says SQL Push, then a headphone symbol. That, to me, means to push the knob in to switch the CB sound to the headsets. Could your headphone symbol be gone on the CB control panel?
