Re: 98 GL1500 carb pilot screw

Also those screws are usually covered with a cap of some kind and are shaped in a D shape and you will need a special tool to adjust them. You can get around that by cutting a slot in the head of the screw to fit a regular slotted screwdriver.

This is a picture I found of the pilot jet screws with arrows pointing to them. You can see the carb bowl drain screws in the picture also.

I'll bet 10 cents that what you see is the carb drain screws. Not the idle jet screws.
I'll see your 10 cents and raise you 25 cents!

Re: Hel Braided Brake Hose Kit

That story reminds me of the time four of us were on a trip from Alabama out through the western states. There were two 1100s and two 1200s and one of the GL1200s had the stator fail on the trip somewhere in Montana. We were probably somewhere near 2500 miles from home at the time. We swapped the ba...

Yes, those are some beautiful hi-res color diagrams. Looks like a lot of work went into making those. Thanks again Erdeniz.

It's probably not as cold in Norway as it is in Wisconsin.
You are right! As of now the temp in Green Bay is 16° and in Tromsdalen Norway it is 21°. You never know what the weather is going to do.

Re: Has anyone ever made a "rat bike" out of a 1500?

I'll bet that stripped down yellow 1500 will really haul to mail! I think they said it only weighs about 450 pounds. The guy said when you crank on the throttle in 1st and 2nd gear it tags the rev limiter easily with tire smoke and hooks up good when he gets to 3rd gear.

Re: Avon Cobra, Dunlop Elite 4, other?

I just looked them both up... -The Cobra 130/70 x 18 Radial has a 63 load rating, and is available with either an H or V speed rating. -The Cobra 130/70 x 18 Bias-Ply has a 69 load rating, and is available only with an H speed rating. Ok, that was where the discrepancy came from. WingAdmin was refe...

Re: Avon Cobra, Dunlop Elite 4, other?

The Avon bias tires are designed for tourers, so the load rating is more than enough. The front is a 63, rated for 600 lbs , the rear is a 81, rated for 1019 lbs. Hey WingAdmin, from all the info I have seen, the Avon front tire is rated at 69 (716 lbs) . Where did you get the info for the 63 rating?

Re: 27 Year Service; your wise council please.

I think it is some good advice to go ahead and take the carbs apart and do a good cleaning on them. Replace the o-rings, float bowl gaskets, etc. You definitely do not want to have to remove those carbs again! While you have the carbs out, be SURE to take that rubber mat under the carbs off and insp...

Re: Avon Cobra, Dunlop Elite 4, other?

I have been using Avon tires for many years. The ones I was using were the Avon Venoms, which are no longer in production. They sell the Avon Cobras now and I have a set on my bike but have only put about 5-6 thousand miles on them so I can't say if they will wear as long as the Venoms did. I really...

Re: Do spark plugs really go bad? (Ponderment)

I bought a GL1200 LTD new and rode it for over 70k miles before replacing the spark plugs. They still looked good and I didn't notice any difference in either performance or fuel mileage. When I got my 1500, it had about 25k miles on it and I went ahead and replaced the plugs just because. They now ...

Hi lash! Good to have you on the forum. Looks as if you like the CB750s no matter what color they are. :D
I bought a 76 CB750 new. I had it about 4 years or so. It was a good running bike. Then I got into Goldwings.

Re: Timing Belts help

I wouldn't put the red loctite on them. You will have a heck of a time getting them loose next time. If you must use loctite, go with the blue. I didn't put any locking compound on mine and never have, but its your call.

I don't use the park position of the switch either, but I believe that only the tail light is supposed to be left on when in that position.

Re: Rear car tire for GL1500SE tug

I don't run a car tire on mine so I don't know about that. I have read on here where a lot of the guys that do run them are running around 40 psi in them. One way to tell would be to get the tire wet and see what the track looks like. Or maybe put a chalk mark across it and see what it looks like af...

Re: Rear car tire for GL1500SE tug

According to my calculations, that tire is about .9 inch shorter than the stock tire and it travels forward about 5.7 inches less per revolution of the tire than stock. So yes, you should feel some quicker acceleration with that tire on there. You will notice that you are turning more rpms at any gi...

Re: Ignition key

No, nothing special, except they work. I had one made at the local hardware store but it would not work in my bike. It seems to be hit or miss when getting a key made from another used one. I'm glad the one you got made from your old one worked but mine did not so I went another route.
