Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Along the lines of what CT1500 mentioned, try starting the bike and, with the side stand down, put it in gear and see if that kills the engine.

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Here is a document that might be helpful when trying to diagnose a problem with the neutral light circuit. The ground from the neutral switch takes an interesting route to get to the ground side of the neutral lamp. This document was prepared by Dbohrer over on the Goldwingfacts board. Neutral Light...

Re: Special art and pinsripping

I removed some pin striping on the 85 LTD I used to have with a quick wipe with some lacquer thinner on a rag and then a coat of polish over that. Couldn't tell it had ever been there.

Re: Shifter brace

Here is a link to the article in the How-To section for installing the shifter brace. https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=19760 I had trouble getting the shifter shaft off to replace the oil seal on mine. It was one of the ones that didn't have enough clearance to get it off without ...

Re: Shifter brace

I used some tin snips and then a grinder to smooth it up some. If you have a die grinder it would work ok with a cutting disc.

Re: Shifter brace

I got the same one on ebay that blupupher linked to above. As he said, it is sold by peppi-le-pew who is the inventor and maker of the product. It is a high quality product and fits perfectly. I don't know why it is cheaper on ebay than Cyclemax but it is. Pretty easy to install. The hardest part is...

Re: Should Rear Brake be able to lock up wheels?

First off, the brakes on the Goldwing are not going to feel as strong as the sport bikes. They will feel softer. Now with that said, it may be that your rubber brake hoses are expanding causing you not to have good braking. I would look into that aspect of it. Those hoses are getting a lot of years ...

Thank you for your response. But I figured out that you can not replace the blue relay in the relay block with anything but that same type of relay.
That is true. That one is a normally closed relay whereas the others are normally open contacts.

Re: Transmission slippage

I think you need to take the cover off the clutch master cylinder and check for a clogged return port. Down at the bottom of the master cylinder is a small cover over the return hole. Just pop that cover off and take a small wire, single wire from a wire brush or a guitar string, and poke it down in...

Re: How low is low MPG?

If you have your cruise control set for the speed limit, going downhill, you're not going to gain a lot of energy anyhow. Then it will smoothly bring in power to get up the other side. And you can wave at the motorcop with the Pro Laser 4 when you go past him at the bottom of the hill. That is the ...

Re: How low is low MPG?

That is all good stuff Solo, except that part about cruise control. Cruise is good in flat country but when it turns hilly that cruise control is going to cost you more fuel. It wants to let off the throttle going down grades and then crank it back in going up the other side. If you let it speed up ...

Re: How low is low MPG?

You are certainly correct that riding style has a huge impact on fuel mileage. The engine rpm itself is not what causes the lower mileage but it is the wind resistance from that large fairing and windshield that makes the mileage go down from higher speeds. It is generally accepted that any rpm over...

Re: Intermittent vibration

I know you have a new tire on the front, but to my little pea brain, the vibration you have described and the things you have done to find it, points to a tire issue. It would be nice if you could replace that whole front wheel/tire assembly with one from another Goldwing as a test to see if that fi...

Re: Replacing Faulty Connectors

Your connector was pretty badly corroded. It appears you are making some progress in getting it cleaned up though. Keep at it. You should be able to get it fixed so you have good connections without resorting to taking the pins out of the connector. Put some dielectric grease on there too when you g...

Re: Replacing Faulty Connectors

Well if that is the case, you could try pulling the pins out of the connector and try squeezing the female pins together a little to tighten them up.

Re: Replacing Faulty Connectors

Did you ever try cleaning those connectors with some CLR or Lime Away then rinse in water and blow dry with compressed air? I would try that before tearing everything apart. I sent you a link to the procedure in the other thread on your no start issue.

Well, sad to say, but it could be those pesky pilot screws you couldn't get out to clean. It appears the accelerator pump is working right, which was my first thought.

Re: Anti Climatic no start.

Those pins in that connector are definitely the problem. Try dipping them in the CLR or some Lime Away for a few seconds then swish around in some clean water. Blow them dry with some compressed air and dab a little dielectric grease on them. That should clean them up nice.
