Re: Arrowhead alternators

I can buy 40amp alternators direct from China at $47 per unit plus shipping and duty but I have to buy ten (minimum order).
Given the failure rate perhaps that is the way to go.😀

that is still cheaper than OEM, and you have 9 spares

I need a new thermo fan switch on my 1200 gold wing. Can anyone tell me the correct wrench size to remove the old one?
somewhere between 8mm and 21mm,
just put a wrench on it and see if it fits.

Re: '99 1500 Maintenance

he should have let you install the shifter brace pivot.... that IMO is the weakest point on the 1500s. had a 94 and 98, both of them had sloppy shifting do that OEM inner bearing not being strong enough. with what you have done, IF, he will ride it every 2 months year 'round, it will last him as lon...

Re: Looking for 1800 advice, tough year!

Agree with deputydawg on the 1800 year models, but do NOT over look a good 01-05 ABS would be nice, wish I had it. but, been riding for 50 years w/o ABS. I have an 02 and it runs like a new bike with only 114,000 miles on it. the older 1800s are now getting to be very affordable. my '94SE was totall...

Re: Which alternator for HIGH Amps?

Another LAST question. (sorry) Which alternator in the picture is better suited, the open air design or the OEM style? If I go with the open air design, and for safety reasons, considering surrounding the open design with aluminum screen in case a small metal item is dropped. Other thoughts? zz1600...

Re: Can we start a CURRENT car tire thread? What is available?

I read a post elsewhere that Universal Tire is NOT going to discontinue selling the Austone Taxi Tire.

their webmaster omitted it on the last update, they told the poster, that if you call them on the phone, they still have them, and will continue to stock them.

take a look at the Madstad offering. for me, it was the best thing I did for my situation. adjust it high, or way low. your choice, and you can do it on the fly w/o stopping. ( yeah, they say not to do that ) but I do it anyway. https://madstad.com/collections/honda/products/honda-gold-wing-gl1200-1...

Tire out of round , tire out of balance ,Tire delamination , water dirt or tools left in tire and warped brake rotor . this is what I am thinking, and it coincides with an experience I just had last Wednesday. my 2001 Suburban pulling my RV Toy Hauler on the "nice roads" going thru Memphis, TN. OK, LAST QUESTION. Views on 90 amp alt charging two or three 12 volt batteries? One on bike, two in the trailer. Will there still be battery boil-over or is there enough capacity to absorb the higher charge? No problem there: 1: the length of the wire from the bike's 12V source to the batteries in ...

Ok. That's what I will do then. Thank you!
automotive audio stores have that kind of wire I am speaking of, the electrical hardware stores don't, theirs is the 7 strand, rigid stuff you don't want. to hard to work with.

Re: New sound system. Where to ground amp if battery is too far away?

were it me, I would add an additional ground wire from the amp's ground terminal to the battery. a brand new 6 or 8ga copper wire with many fine strands, to reduce the voltage drop to a minimum.

this can only do good things for everything on the bike anyway.

Keyboard, they don't make them like they used to

My laptop sees quite a bit of use, so much so, the letters on the keyboard disappeared last year. so, I wanted a new lighted background, and searched and finally found one at gulp! $150?? took a while, but I use it a lot, and i mean a LOT.... installed that new super duper keyboard, and guess what??...

any oil is good, just change it often. I use Rotella T6 in 5w40 pure synthetic would use 5w30 if it was available. the 5w lets the oil flow instantly when you start it up on -25°F mornings though, and I like that..... proved it once, just to say I did it :) ;) the oil pressure light disappeared on t...

I just turned 76, so just as young as you... w/o sounding harsh, are you NOT using the front brake at slow speeds? the 1500 benefits from just a tad bit of throttle, and the use of the foot brake at very slow speeds. this requires having the clutch in the slippery zone, foot on brake lightly, thrott...
