Build your own Stator Regulator

I read a lot of technical newsletters, and this little jewel showed up today and really caught my interest. It seems like it would really be the cat's meow for replacing the OEM regulator on the Stator equipped bikes. Of course, it will need the standard full wave, 3 phase bridge rectifier in front ...

Re: Trailer visibility

I like the large Square inches of the School Bus lights that you got, but with my Wood Box, there was no way to install them, not enough room on the back. So, I elected to go the Semi Truck LED route and use the metal brackets to hold the lights off to the outside of the trailer.... that created mor...

Re: Battery / starter / buzziing and clicking

was this a "Battery Tender" brand unit? I have several of those things, all working 365 days/year. if the bike, tractor, RV Trailer, is not in use, the Battery Tenders are plugged in w/o fail. I use the 750mA models usually, it is just big enough to keep batteries on float. on the big 1000A RV batte...

Re: Trailer visibility

I have yet to loose a Pool Noodle, to the wind or to Theft  on my wood box trailer, it is Bright Yellow with Hazard Stripes on the back I used Semi Truck LED lights, separate ones for the brakes, and separate Turn Lights, the idea is to spread the "lighting" all over the place. There is a Super...

There's a product called Anti Monkey Butt Powder. It won't help with keeping you cooler, but it can help to prevent heat rash.
I was going to suggest this, and also that you get a Phase Change vest to keep your body core cooler.

I have this one https://www.glaciertek.com/high-visibility/

Re: GL1500 Charging Issues

I wired my panel Voltmeter DIRECT TO BATTERY. it shows me exactly what is going on..... when this picture was taken, the key switch was OFF..... yes, it is on all the time.... but I always use a Battery Tender. you can do the same, though I would suggest that you use a relay to turn it off when the ...

Re: Gl 1500 engine wont stay running

Just a guess but it sounds like it could be the fuel shutoff or petcock located under the fill door. There is a diaphragm that gets brittle and loses vacuum. Rebuild kits sold online. available here from CycleMax https://www.cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500_fuel_petcock_rebuild_kit/20457 P1003-0086_...

done it both ways, a blanket and the last time, I used a pallet.

gave me more height on the rear wheel, so my aching back did not have to get down on my knees.

just remember:

NEVER, EVER, leave the tranny in Neutral !!!
to do so, can cause death if the idiot behind you does not stop.

Always, in 1st gear, hand on clutch ready to jump out of the way.

Re: traffic light stop/wait/go best practice?

at traffic lights, if I am NOT in front, I make it a point to stay back about one car length, and pointed towards the Best Escape Route, so as to keep the traffic behind me in view, and don't allow them to crash into you. If in front, I stay back from the White Line about 10-12 feet, to allow the cr...

if you use the car coils, you still have to keep the series resistors, or the coils get too hot and will burn a hole in the case, just like what I see there.

I don't see how, there is no correlation between the driveshaft and the cooling system.

Re: 1500 White Face Speedometer

I "enjoyed those damn whiteface" instruments on my '98SE so much, I sold the bike to get rid of them.

I have a set of black faces to put on them, but bike was sold before I put them on.

Wish you well, but I have not heard of anyone wanting to get a white faced kit.

Re: Superbrace -> massive stiction

That procedure you just went thru, is the exact same thing that must be done when you change a tire. Very critical to do it just like you said. I have had the SuperBrace on 4 Goldwings, and everyone benefited from the brace. the "difference" is not noted except under 10 mph, actually more like under...

Re: Old Car Transmission sound?

pour in 4 oz of Sea Foam into the crankcase. ride it 100 miles and drain the oil. get some synthetic oil, "Rotella T4 will be fine" and use that for a while. it is just about the cheapest oil on Walmart's shelf. under $20 bux last week. I suspect that will "fix it". FWIW, I am using Rotella T6 in 5w...

Re: Charge at idle

my '94SE had the stock 40 amp Alternator.

I just set the idle at 1150 rpm and all was well.

I also made it a point to not add any extra lights.
Never had a problem with it, and I lived in Mesa, AZ at the time, lots of stop lights.

To everybody that responded, thank you very much for your advice! I tried to find a replacement tank here in South Africa but "no go".
