Yes that setup doesn't seem very ergonomic  The other side with the shifter and floorboards isn't exactly good either.
True - although a Kury heel/toe shifter seems to pretty much solve the problem on that side. Do have to lift the foot from floorboard to shifter, though.

Re: Of Floorboards and Linked Brakes

OK - I found an image of a Wing... looks like a 98, same color as mine... with pegs in place of floorboards. Looks like a better setup for braking while dealing with in town traffic.

Perhaps this is what I need to do. Comments appreciated.

Of Floorboards and Linked Brakes

So... immensely enjoying my new (to me) Wing. I've noticed a couple of things. This bike came with rider floorboards (see image, below). I find myself scraping them quite regularly. Does anyone know what the lean angle is before they start scraping? Seems like it is a lot less than with pegs. Prior ...

Questions Protocols and Preferences?

Well, I've been riding my new (to me) 98 Wing and enjoying the heck out of it. And, it's generated at least a dozen questions. Before posting those questions: Some of the questions have related old threads in the forums. Should I resurrect the old thread (some as old as 3 years or more) or start a n...

Re: Is There a Knowledgeable 1500 Rider in Houston?

With the weather we have had lately you may have to get a Waverunner to get here. We got 5 1/2” of rain between 11 pm Thursday night and 4 am Friday morning. I see where Houston is getting most of the rain though. Dave Yes, we got 4 1/2 inches Thursday night over a period of 4 hours. No more, thoug...

Re: Is There a Knowledgeable 1500 Rider in Houston?

StrongEagle, I don’t know about “knowledgable”, but I have been in mine pretty deep. Just about all the knowledge I get is from this forum. I was in the Woodlands area for 5 months with work, but I’m back in Rockport till July. I’m being sent back to the office in the Woodlands around July for a fe...

Re: Is There a Knowledgeable 1500 Rider in Houston?

Thank you for all the replies. There is a wealth of information at the links provided... and I see that the plastic comes off just like the side covers on my Valk... just more of 'em!

Cheers.!

Is There a Knowledgeable 1500 Rider in Houston?

That would be willing to trade a lunch/coffee/beer for a "tour" of the Wing? How to get the various covers off, any other tips such as airing tires, oil checks, etc. Call it a familiarization routine, if you will... kind of like first time pilots get to do with their first airplane.

Thank you.

Trailer Hitches

Seems like hitches for 1500's are becoming fairly rare. I've read quite a few of the threads here. Any recommendations as to where to buy, particularly used?

TIA

The Trigger Has Been Pulled!

Mobile on two wheels again. 98 model, 84K on it, a few cosmetic blemishes in the finish, brand new tires on both ends, and a very good deal.

Warning you all in advance that I'm probably going to turn into a fountain of questions with my new beast.

Re: 1500 Trailer Hitches

Depending on what insurance systems are like in your area, the "rebuilt" title MAY not be anything to worry about, particularly in full-fairing bikes like the 'Wing. Case in point - my previous bike was a Kawasaki Concours 1000. I had a crash when a deer leaped out of the bush (no shoulder on the r...

Re: Cost and Source for 1999 Goldwing Front Fender

Yes, my Valkyries had the same exact issue... crank but wouldn't fire... I dunno, though... this one just didn't seem to have that problem.

However, we shall shortly find out... the seller is taking the bike to the shop today for repairs.

Thanks for the info, gents.

Re: Cost and Source for 1999 Goldwing Front Fender

Thanks for all the great information, gents. I went and visited the bike yesterday. Indeed, a '99 with a fair number of bells and whistles on it. Here's a pic of it. It has 80,000 on the odometer. bike.png Only... it wouldn't start... turned over fine. Guy said it had been sitting in the warehouse f...

Re: 1500 Trailer Hitches

I was contemplating buying this motorcycle until I discovered it had a rebuilt title. Now, rebuilt is better than salvage, and, the owner was unable to tell me why the bike had a rebuilt title and could only say that it "rides fine". As for the hitch, my intention is to attach a mounting plate so th...

Cost and Source for 1999 Goldwing Front Fender

Title pretty much says it all. Bike is being advertised as needing "fender and fork cover". I'm going to look at it tomorrow... would like to know the cost to recreate per the pics.

Thank you.

1500 Trailer Hitches

Is anyone able to tell me anything about the hitch attached to this motorcycle? I've not been able to find much about it.

OK - I've figured out it's a Markland... no longer made. Now, I can't find specs. Max tongue weight, max trailer weight, etc.

Thank you.

Compression Leak? Sayeth the Man...

What say ye? In my ̶v̶a̶s̶t̶ limited experience, a cylinder(s) that won't hold compression has ring problems or valve problems, maybe even head gasket issues, and either way, it's an expensive repair. This fellow says "compression leak" and I wonder if you all can put on your "Click and Clack, Tappe...

Re: Avon Cobra, Dunlop Elite 4, other?

If you decide to put Avon Cobra's on, stay away from the radial rears. Your bike calls for bias ply anyway, but some people still put radials on a 1500. Unless Avon has fixed the problems with the radial Cobra's, they are prone to tread seperation. There are many posts about this and I am one of th...

Radial or Bias Ply for a 1500 Wing?

Gawd, I hope this isn't like asking, "What's the best brand of oil?" On all three of my Valkyries, I exclusively ran radial tires. In fact, unless one were to go out of brand recommendations, only radials were available from Avon, Metzeler, and Dunflop. I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigg...

Re: Is This 93 SE Worth a Look?

I contacted the owner. No flooding, he says. About 50,000 on the odometer. But he has no idea why the bike has different colored bags, nor does he have any idea of the history of the bike. To quote: We got the bike 3 months ago. The man passed away and his wife sold it. Definitely moving along now.

Re: Is This 93 SE Worth a Look?

Look at everything you might need/want to replace, and add up the costs. Those costs, plus the cost of the bike, needs to be well below what you could buy a running one for. I've done many "projects" over the years. Unless you have a connection for good deals on parts, OR, it's the bike of your dre...

Is This 93 SE Worth a Look?

Hasn't run in five years. Asking $1000. Any particular things one would want to check out on a bike sitting for five years? I reckon I'd pull the plugs and squirt oil, let sit, before turning it over. Bring a battery charger and jumper cables as well. I'd expect it wouldn't start without fresh plugs...
