When you say you got the full kit, does that mean you got the proper base coat as well?

Re: Broken Tab repair

Good job. I've done the same thing with the same product. I also use Plast-Aid which is very similar.

For the rubber mold, I use an electric mug warmer instead of hot water.

Re: Arrowhead alternators

I used your link and looked up Arrowhead. I found the part number for their 90 amp alternator and did a search on the internet. It was part number AHA0002. I found them on Amazon as a DB Electrical alternator. They sell for $129.95 or $139.95 depending on which listing you look at. One of the listin...

Re: Tulsa extra-tall windshield mounting

Actually, once the Tulsa windshield is installed and secured, it does not adjust up and down like the OEM windshield. If you want to move it, you have to loosen the attaching bolts and move the shield and then re-secure it. I believe that in the instructions, it specifies to mount the windshield all...

It all depends on who is using the terms. Some say: Gen 1 is for the GL1000 Gen 2 is for the GL1100 Gen 3 is for the GL1200 Gen 4 is for the GL1500 Gen 5 is for the GL1800 (2001 - 2017) Gen 6 is for the GL1800 (2018 - and later) Then there are the ones that say: Gen 1 is for the GL1800, 2001 - 2005 ...

Re: 90K on a used GL1800

I would be more concerned about owner add-ons than mileage. When an owner adds items to the bike, they have a tendency to do shoddy work. If there is a lot of added lighting I'd look closely at the workmanship. Open up access areas and look for scotch-lock type of connectors and wire routing. scotch...

Re: Which alternator for HIGH Amps?

I've had a Compufire since August of 2001. My first one needed to be replaced under warranty at 22,285 miles for a noisy rear bearing. The replacement was good for the next 48,141 miles when it was removed and installed in a replacement '98 GL1500. It was in this '98 for 170,830 miles before it deve...

Re: Oil on alternator

It would also be a good idea to get a new O-Ring for the alternator where it goes into the alternator well on the engine.

Re: Which alternator for HIGH Amps?

You are not forced to buy an AGM if you do not want to but it is so much easier. With a higher output alternator and a flooded cell battery, you will have to check and replenish the water in the battery very frequently. With an AGM, it is an install and forget. Your choice.

Re: Planning my first big trip

In my experience, and the experience of others I know, May is a terrible month to travel cross country. Too much wind, either from the south or the north. Cross winds really are a pain and the weather still fluid and unpredictable. June is a better month to travel cross country. In 2014 I went from ...

Re: South east Mi, second opinion

After sitting for 2 years, the idle jets are probably clogged/gummed.
My '99 had that problem after sitting a year and a half. Needed choke to run smooth above idle RPM.
Running some Seafoam or other type of carb cleaner through a few tanks of gas may help to clear the problem.

Re: Oil on alternator

No, that is how the motor is designed. Once the alternator is removed you now have an open engine. What needs to be done is to replace the seal on the alternator input.

Re: Oil on alternator

Oil leaking from the engine into the alternator means the seal is gone. You will most likely have to take it apart to replace the seal. If this is an OEM alternator, the seal is a 22x38x7. It can be bought at any bearing supply. The Honda Part Number is 31104-MN5-005 if you want to buy from the deal...

Re: Won't Start

Replace the battery. That voltage indication of 12.5 and then 3.4 when you turn on the ignition is indicative of a dead battery.

The fact that you were able to jump start it and ride it home tells me that the alternator and charging system is good.

Re: GRRR! Another hour spent tryng to align the drive shaft and u-Joint!

If you ever have to do it again, this is how I do it without help: To get the U-joint to align with the drive shaft, slide a piece 1/8" thick by 1" wide steel flat stock, or similar material, into the swing arm and slide it under the U-Joint to prop it up. Now slide the drive line only into the swin...

Re: Blowing fuses

Be really careful using the light bulb technique. You could end up melting some insulation on the wires that are shorted. If it is blowing a 30 amp fuse, you can do a lot of damage in a very short period of time. Of course, that will help you find the short, you will be able to smell the plastic bur...
