Re: Lower cowl deflectors

These are chrome and I believe that they are a little narrower than OEM:

Re: Question about mirrors.

It is most likely a connector that is used to make your trunk brake lights act as turn signals. Normally, only the amber lights in the saddle bags operate as turn signals. Show Chrome had a kit that would allow all four trunk lights as well as the saddlebag amber lights to flash as turn signals. Do ...

Re: Trailer brakes light won’t go off

If the problem is not the isolator, I have no idea where else to look. As newday777 said, there are no other relays on the bike unless someone added an aftermarket item. Maybe a spoiler light or 'Hyper-Lite' set up or a Kuryakyn brake light addition of some kind is allowing current to back feed to y...

Re: Trailer brakes light won’t go off

Greg, I don't know what a trailer rectifier is but you no doubt have a trailer isolator between the trailer and the bike wiring. Anyone that has a trailer set up on a GL1800 really needs to have a trailer isolator. The reason is the bike wiring is not really capable of handling the extra load that a...

The Honda car dealership will normally have the antifreeze also.

Re: 'Crystals' in antifreeze

The reason that 100% silicate-free antifreeze is required in the 'Wing is because the silicates act, basically, like sand in your coolant. The use of silicate-content coolant has led to many a destroyed 'Wing coolant pump. I can't get the Honda OEM stuff here, but if you shop judiciously you can fi...

Re: Replacing bulbs in trunk side lights

I'm a big fan of LEDs too. Here is a pic of my GL1500 with LED strip lights in the reflectors.

The reflectors come apart pretty easily if you just warm them up in an oven. About 200 degrees for about 5 minutes. They are held together with hot glue.

Re: CSC Escapade Air Shocks Leak?

I spent ALL DAY installing the Monroe air shocks. What a $%^& chore! Still, they are installed. .... I rounded a corner, and the trailer tipped to one side, as one shock's load was lessened while the other shock's load was increased. Apparently the air found it's way through the small tubes and I s...

Re: Here we go again!! Something else as always!

Unless the bearings need to be replaced, it may not be necessary to pull the armature. Have you tried it in the engine at all? Did it rotate the engine? It appears that the commutator can be cleaned up and the brushes replaced without taking it any further apart.

Re: Here we go again!! Something else as always!

By the way, remove the spark plugs while you are working on the timing belts. It will make it a lot easier to rotate the crank shaft while you position the cam shafts.

Re: Here we go again!! Something else as always!

Nate, Your starter is fine - it needs New Brushes - that's for sure. A good clean up on the gears and a good grease - they are a bit dry. Definitely need to probably pull out the whole armature and give it a good scrub, and the commutator will need a clean up and then to check with a multi meter al...

Re: GL1800 chattering rear brake

How soon after the brake GL1800 Service Bulletin #23 was done did the chattering start? Did you mention it to the shop that did the service? Did you ask them to re-bleed it? That would be what I would have done. If you did not, then you can flush the brakes yourself following the steps in the servic...

Re: 2018/19 Gold Wing model name

As to generations of Gold Wings, I like to think of them like this;
Gen 1 - GL1000
Gen 2 - GL1100
Gen 3 - GL1200
Gen 4 - GL1500
Gen 5 - GL1800 (2001 - 2017)
Gen 6 - GL1800, 2018 to present.

They are all Gold Wings, just different engine displacement.

Re: Here we go again!! Something else as always!

I don't have a GL1200 and never have but have worked on a few. The timing belts are not unlike the timing belts in the GL1500. They do stretch slightly over a period of years. That slack in your belts is normal after years of use. I there is supposed to be 5 - 7 mm of slack along the long portion of...

Re: One Progressive shock 450

The picture you provided makes it pretty hard to tell what shock you have on the left side. The shock on the right does look to be stock. I'm not sure exactly what it is that you are trying to find out but I think you are asking if someone can identify if you do have a 450 shock installed. Look at t...

Re: One Progressive shock 450

What is it you need to know about it? Yes, it is a single shock but you still have the level control shock assembly on the right side of the swing arm I am sure. The Progressive Suspensions 450 IAS Shock is a single shock that goes on the left. The right "shock" is really just an air bag that contro...

Re: RAM Mount GDS Dock Handlebar Mount

I do not believe Android Auto uses any of my data at all. We are using Verizon and my wife and I have been using Android Auto since December of 2017. My data plan is not impacted at all. The only way the data gets used is when I tether my computer to the phone. I do that frequently when on the road....

Will the exhaust/mufflers from a 1993 Wing fit my 1989 Wing? They look the same but not sure if Honda changed anything.

Re: Drive shaft problem

This is how I do it without help: To get the U-joint to align with the drive shaft, slide a piece 1/8" thick by 1" wide steel flat stock, or similar material, into the swing arm and slide it under the U-Joint to prop it up. Now slide the drive line only into the swing arm so it mates with the U-Join...

Re: Contact for Blackwing Eng.

I believe that if you want an M7 bolt, you will have to cut it yourself or have it cut by a machine shop. The bolts that came with the Blackwing brace were 1/4-28. When I asked about the bolt size I was told "the 1/4-28 were close enough and would work fine: I do not think he was able to find any 7x...
