Re: Won't start need guidance
The Blue Relay is Relay #7, Position Relay. It is a normally closed relay and it is used to control the Position Lights. It will have nothing to do with starting the engine.

Re: balancing beads
First, I’d like to say that you are not the first to lose a few balance beads. Less than the suggested two ounces in a tire is not a bad thing because you can usually add more through the valve stem if necessary. Next, using dish soap as a lubricant on your aluminum wheels is a bad idea. It will cor...

Re: Bad fuel pump or junk in the tank
I would start by checking the vacuum operated fuel petcock. If you do not have a service manual or have not read how to test that fuel, valve, bypass it and see if the symptoms cease.

Re: Rear brake switch replavement
Does anyone have instructions or video on replacing the rear brake switch on 1997 GL1500? I have a Motor Trike kit if that makes a difference. Also need a source for the switch. Thanx in advance MR Cycles - $13.98. Alink to their site is below. https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/hon/506c1bbcf87002...

Is the Mississippi Gulf Coast home for you? I lived there for about seven years when I was in the Air Force. '77 to '84.

Re: Died at 75 mph, have power but no spark.
How often do you use the kill switch? You could just jump it out. In all the time I have owned a motorcycle, over 50 years, I have never used the kill switch to shut down a bike, only to test its functionality. I'm not advocating for that to be your fix. Just saying it is an option. If it were me, I...

If you are concerned about putting stainless steel in contact with aluminum, any cadmium plated or carbon steel bolts available from a local hardware supplier will work just fine.

Re: Died at 75 mph, have power but no spark.
I already tried tightening it witch it was loose but it didn't solve the problem. Will take it off and check connections shortly. I am unsure what you mean by already tried tightening it. The screws that I have read about are internal to the switch quadrant and would require that it be disassembled...

Re: Died at 75 mph, have power but no spark.
I have never taken the switch quadrant apart but I have read here that there are two terminals for the kill switch that sometime come loose internally and just need to be tightened back up.

Re: Oh snap! Final drive eye broken
I am not really familiar with the GL1200 but I understand that the final drive from a GL1500 will fit a GL1200. I believe the mounting holes will have to be enlarged slightly where it attaches to the swing arm. Is the final drive the part that is damaged? Could you post a picture of the damage? I've...

Re: Died at 75 mph, have power but no spark.
A faulty kill switch will cause that malfunction. The engine will crank but you will never get a spark. I assume you have already manipulated the kill switch back and forth right? Next thing to do would be to open the right switch quadrant on the handlebar and check the wires and connection for the ...

Personally I believe the voltmeter is probably all you really need. The amp meter will give you additional information but I don't really think you need one.

Re: Low fuel light, cruise control lights, and "R" stay on suddenly
That is a pretty good indication that the battery is weak. A "blooming" of lights when the engine RPM is increased shows that the alternator is working and charging the weak battery.eightball1013 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 8:04 am ...But I noticed the lights on dash always get brighter the faster the rpm.

Re: Well I screwed up, 93 GL1500 is dead Jim!
Whenever the engine dies the oil light will always come on because there's no oil pressure once the engine stops. If the engine stops because the bank angle sensor has faulted, yes the light will come on. And if the run-stop switch has faulted the engine will die and once again the oil light comes o...

Re: alternator issues
I really believe that there is nothing in the motorcycle wiring that will cause the alternator to fail. A fuse will open before the alternator would experience an internal failure. So I do not think replacing the style of fuse will help to diagnose the problem. Have you returned the alternator or at...

Re: Balance beads
Here is an interesting tidbit for you. I've been using balance beads for well over ten years and never had this happen before. I had a vibration after replacing the tires and installing beads. After some diagnosis I discovered that I had installed too many beads in the front tire. I didn't do a very...

Re: Valve clearance check
I own a 2008 GL1800, 1st gen Goldwing. After asking many folks in my now defunct GW chapter regarding valve clearance check and adjustment, not one admitted to checking the valve clearance on their 'Wing. The service manual calls for a check every 32,000 miles; I bought my ride with 62,000 miles on...
