Re: Electric fuel pump conversion??
Hi , I have converted my GL 1000 to electric pump and have left the original in place so it looks, well , original. I put a small K&N 81-0400 fuel pump up in the top shelter to the right of the fuel gauge mounted near the ign coils. Works well. Can take some photos if you like? I have done exac...

Re: Dyna Alternative?
I get what you're saying, but, if the bike is running to spec and timing, mixtures etc are spot on, then, to me, it suggests that the component tolerances of the pick-ups are too tight. Personally, I find the price of Dyna stuff exorbitant. As I previously said, the bikes were designed to run points...

Re: Dyna Alternative?
on hd bikes, the dyna and other pickups would overheat and give issues. the trick was to shim the ignition cover to allow a little air to cool. a couple washers under the cover (and over the screws) was all it would take. I did try that in the end and it worked good. Then I thought why the hell sho...

Re: Dyna Alternative?
I've got a ten year old Dyna s system on the Honduh and over the last few weeks it's developed an issue of dropping two cylinders after about 5 minutes on the road. They pop back in and out but once it's warmed up it's completely unreliable. I checked everything (even replaced the coils) EXCEPT the...

Re: single loud POP on deceleration.
If the 1100 setup is the same as the 1000, you can access the air cutoff valve without removing the carbs. Pull the air filter box and you can get straight on it. Of course, if the 1100's are different, I've been no help at all!

Re: Blowing tail light fuse
I wish it were that simple. Maybe a little background will help. I have been riding this cycle for 2 years with no electrical problems. The only thing added was a USB charger using the auxiliary fuse connection. The cycle has a couple extra taillight/brake lights from Drag Specialties but it has ne...

Re: New owner, 'tap' in driveline...
I do have a little play on the rear in the usual way you'd check a wheel bearing. I can't get ahold of 12 o'clock but I can shove 6 o'clock to the left and right and I have enough play that I can feel/see it. Is 'any' too much in this case? And there's no abnormal noises shoving the wheel clockwise...

Re: Take off problems
Well, that's concerning. I checked the diaphragm and didn't see any obvious signs of tearing; the pump only has like 120miles on it. To be fair it is not much fuel, less than half an ounce at most. I have a replacement diaphragm seal for it, will have to tap the diaphragm post to make it serviceabl...

Re: Take off problems
EDIT: Is the fuel pump meant to have gas in the lower pump tachometer section? I didn't question it when the new one I installed last some down there as the manual doesn't call for lubing the tachometer splines, so I had assumed it was using the gasoline to do that job. However now I want to make s...

I am not familiar with the Newtronic unit but it may be very similar to the DS1-3. I just posted some tips and information that may help you. Take a look: https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=392267#p392267 Just for info, I've had two Newtronic systems and they both failed after a year. C...

Re: Steering lock..... Missing key.
I replaced my steering lock as I did not have a key for it. I wish I had not bothered. If you have a good disc lock then, IMHO, that's what you should use. I got rid of mine out of necessity, Dan - I had to replace the frame, due to terminal rust and the only one I could find was a USA one. The US ...

A decent locksmith!
We have one in Kent, called Express Keys and Lock Services (near Orpington).
If no luck local to you, I'd buy the Honda replacement from David Silver. It's dead easy to fit.

Re: Steering lock..... Missing key.
Hi guys. My 76 GL is running like a dream. Even rewarded it with a wash! Lol. But I've never had a key for the steering lock. As far as I know the lock still works, but can I get a replacement key or do I have to replace the entire thing.? How do I replace it and where do I get one? Thanks. I assum...

Re: Point setting...... I know it's been covered..
Thanks for reply Max. Well I've done it, learnt all about points and timings properly... It was way out! It had been adjusted by bike dealer when I bought it, but it still started and ran like crap. Honesty would only start in warm dry days and could flatten a battery trying. I did a trial start (c...

Re: Point setting...... I know it's been covered..
The punch mark is actually visible in your photo on the edge of the lobe. To be honest, I just set the points so that the plugs fire at the correct time, using the flywheel marks. Whenever I've checked the gap on the 'non adjustable ' points, it's been within spec.

Thanks DenverWinger and what a revelation. The piece of wood under the rear wheel works a treat. Now to check the lengths of the rear shocks to see if they are shot, or not, as the case may be. Dan, Not much help, I know, but my '75 is no hassle to put on the centre stand, so long as you're wearing...

Re: Recent restoration rides like CRAP. Help!
When you strip the forks to replace the seals, check how the sliders move on the stanchions with no oil or springs in them. They should slide easily and both exactly the same. If they take a bit of effort and then suddenly slide, that's the problem. Strip them completely and check the sliding surfac...

Re: Recent restoration rides like CRAP. Help!
Okay guys, (and gals) I’ve recently completed a full restoration on my 77 GL, and I’ve put around 1300 miles on it. It is a JOY to ride for the most part. However, since day one the forks have been “off”. They seem to work just fine over big bumps, and they compress normally when you hit the front ...
