Re: Mystery Coolant Leak

look VERY closely at the little plastic TEE laying on the right side of the thermostat housing, it just sort of lays on the manifold. shake the hose that comes from it and goes down to the water pump whiles it's running. I just went through the same thing and it was the TEE it had a hairline crack a...

97 SE w Sidecar

I am selling my 97 SE with a Motorvation sidecar I consider this a running project as it does need a little work but runs great and is turn key road ready the bike has a small leak from the housing the water pump bolts to. the right fork seal is leaking a little side car is just cosmetic as it is a ...

Re: Getting stuck in 5th gear

the bike came with boards and a heel toe shifter but it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen in my life so I replaced them with a nice set of Markland boards that are in very good condition. as to her stopping in 5th that was because it wouldn't down shift and I told her to bring it to a s...

Re: Getting stuck in 5th gear

well it looks like I was wrong, it is still getting stuck in 5th gear sometimes. it's weird it only does it sometimes there is no telling when it might do it, sometimes she can get it to downshift after working it a little and other times we have to stop. I'm not sure what to think at this point. th...

Re: replacing thermostat

Got it :D a little heat, a little back and forth movements and out it came. so after that it went fairly smooth going back together. I don't think there are any short cuts to this job, not something I would want to do again, but it did give me a chance to check the little elbow vacuum hose under the...

Re: Getting stuck in 5th gear

well I'm 99% sure I got it fixed. we haven't driven it yet to verify but I'm sure I got it. turns out it was the shifter, the front knuckle was binding badly when downshifting. I had installed the set up right after I bought the trike, I figured because it had just been removed from a 1500 it was se...

Re: Getting stuck in 5th gear

I will say I have a 97 with a sidecar on it with the same heel toe shifter set up without the shifter brace, has been on it since 05 and the only issue I have is the bushings are getting worn. I'm not ruling out the shifter set up by any means, I will be looking it over carefully this weekend. I jus...

Re: Getting stuck in 5th gear

I do use Rotella and have for years. I did check the oil in her bike and air in tires before we rode. the oil still looked new but I can't help thinking that maybe there is some hidden sludge in there from it sitting for years before I got it

Getting stuck in 5th gear

I have a strange situation with my wife's trike. the bike is a 96 1500 with only 50K miles. it sat for a long time before I bought it and brought it back to life. it just started doing this and has now done it 3 times in the last 2 times it was ridden. she can be riding along and when she goes to sl...

Re: replacing thermostat

I have given it a bit of tapping from the top and a little on the side, I drove a small socket on top to make a remover type tool and thought I had it once but it was the socket twisting loose. I am nervous about getting heat down there but I do have a small pocket size hand held butane torch I can ...

Re: replacing thermostat

well I finally got to feeling better and started back on replacing the thermostat, sadly there is no way to do this repair without removing the carbs. I got the carbs removed and got everything unhooked to get a clear shot at the housing and was removing the last bolt and it broke off in the housing...

Re: replacing thermostat

yeah I was afraid it was going to come to that, not really looking for short cuts so much as not knowing the best way to get where I needed to be. I got fairly good at pulling and reinstalling the carbs working on my wife's trike so I guess if that is the best way then so be it. haven't had a chance...

replacing thermostat

I let my 1500 overheat ( had a senior moment) and the little plastic TEE down near the thermostat cracked and is leaking coolant, I decided since it ran hot I would replace the thermostat while I am replacing the TEE and hoses. I have it torn down now to where I have removed both fans, I have both r...

Re: Front tire for GL 1500 Trike Kit

the only way to install a non MC tire on the front of a wing is to install a leading link front end it would be much more cost effective to just run a Avon chrome trike tire or a Pilot Activ rear tire on the front I have ran the Active for years on my sidecar rig and have been happy with the perform...

Re: Pet Carrier

I have to agree with AZgl1800, you have to be careful what you put on the lid. I had to plate mine on the underside of the lid as it had cracked at one of the mount points prior to me buying it. The one on my 1800 is just temp. until I get a sidecar mounted. if your going to install a carrier take t...

Re: Pet Carrier

we have a carrier on the 1500 trike and I have one on my 02 1800, it is a bit tricky to get it on the 1800 securely but can be done. we have 2 different brands but the kuryakyn is the one I like best they both are very good quality but the kuryakyn is a little smaller at the base so it was easier to...

Re: clutch master cylinder

is the master leaking or did the clutch just stop working with no visible leaks If it is just the master cylinder failed I think that is a bit steep, well more like a lot. it's not that hard to rebuild the master cylinder and bleed the system if you have a decent grasp on turning wrenches I haven't ...

Re: front tire

I have been using the Pilot Activ rear tire on the front of my sidecar rig and been happy with it. I am currently trying the Avon Cobra Trike tire on my wife's trike. no real mileage to judge it yet but sure does ride good.my only complaint with the Pilot is it starts cupping and if you don't keep t...

Re: Air suspension???

if your shock was fine until you hit the decrease button your shock probably fine. it takes a LONG LONG time to air the shock back up if you let it way down, the pump on these bikes are very slow. I think the first thing you need to do is with the bike running hold the increase button and give it ti...

Re: carb sync help

so the above comments turned to be false hope again. so after that I called and spoke with Bear @ Bears Cycle shop who built the carbs for me, I had spoke with him a few times and he offered ideas as did many of you here after this last issue we talked and I asked if he knew anything else I could or...

Re: carb sync help

some good news, I made some progress last night. I decided to reset the air mix screws back to factory starting setting of 2 turns out, then rather than opening them more I closed them about a 1/2 turn leaving me at 1.5 . I did this before even starting the motor. I started and let it warm up and on...

Re: carb sync help

in my case I simply made 2 tools to let me get in there to the screws while standing over the carbs. I got the idea from a post I had found where someone had bought 2 new idle mix screws and soldered a braided wire to the screw and put a knob on the other end. I didn't have the time to do that so wh...

Re: carb sync help

just an update. I got an opportunity to work on the bike this weekend, but at now looks like my troubles go deeper than a simple adjustment. I will need to do some more searching to see what I can find. when I adjusted the lean mixture it made matters far worse. if I adjust it even a little it won't...

Re: carb sync help

Thank you for your thoughts and advise, I will watch the Vid again and try to get a good grasp on all of it this time I need to give better detail of my explanation of what it is doing as I don't think I said it correctly. It isn't actually hesitating but rather unable to hold a steady low RPM from ...
