Re: Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Good Point! I wish I had shared this flawed line of reasoning a lot earlier. In the early days the bike did overheat and there was a Honda recall that addressed the problem, but I rationalized that it was better to turn it off when outside temperatures were 100 degrees F and above at stoplights abov...

Re: Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Thanks so much for expanding your last critique as this is where I'll go next before ordering a new ECM. Am inclined to work on the bike myself, changing the air filter, spark plugs, changing oil etc. With GoldwingDocs help, even determined and replaced a faulty speed indicator. Appreciate so much t...

Re: Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Thanks. Honda of Houston quoted $800 for ECM & $111 for left knock sensor.
& $65 service to replace ECM.
Per your recommendation will opt for ECM.

Re: Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Thanks for this heads up. Is Honda direct the only recommended source for a new ECM? Is there only one type? I see references to ECU etc when looking on eBay. Can this be ordered from or through the GoldWingDocs store, an authorized Honda dealership or direct from Honda online? Again, Thanks so much...

Re: Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Thanks. I guess I need to shop for an ECM. Will check on Parts available from this website. Appreciate very much your input. Where is this info available? I have the Honda issued 2001-2003 GL1800/A CD Service Manual. Is this tucked away somewhere in there? I've been too laid back to explore it. Sham...

Two longs followed by 6 short.

What does this indicate?
Thanks for the advice.

Intermittent starter switch? & F1 light

Sometimes when attempting to start, inst panel goes dead, trip meter zeros & clock resets to 1:00. Loosening & retightening battery cables sometimes fixes it. Sometimes repeated engagement of the starter switch fixes it. Mystery. Now, new fault is F1 light, comes on after 15 - 45 min. riding...

Re: Average age ?

Heading for 78 on Dec 28, 2017. 1st bike a 1949 125cc Harley, up to a 650cc 1955 Tiger 110 in 1956. 1st Wing a new 2002 GL1800 in Oct 2001 after 3 ZG1000 Concours. Love 2 wheels. Best way to get anywhere for any reason unless it's pouring down rain when you open the garage door. Wing now has 118k on...

Interrupted electrical

My 2002 GL 1800 periodically stumbles as though the battery is disconnected, which resets the clock and trip odometers. Mileage is 117,000 with mostly local short trip travel. My habit in Houston's hot summer climate has been to shut off the engine at red lights so the ignition switch, starter switc...

Re: Honda Neowing tilting reverse trike

This is a trike I might consider. I've said before that if I can't lean, and am unable to manage 2 wheels, I'll probably be done. But maybe not, with this alternative. When there's one available here in the US, I'll be in line for a demo ride. Maybe the hybrid idea is worth trying. Unique & inte...

Re: Average age ?

I quite agree with SEO. I too am not a "Club" or "Social" Rider. Not that I intend to be antisocial. Maybe when I'm retired this might change because I'll have the time for such. I'm too busy now and using 2 wheels for getting from here to there adds a degree of fun because of th...

Re: Average age ?

I'll be 77 on Dec 28, 2016. My 2002 GL1800 has 115,857 mi on the clock which is really 90% of that due to speedo error. It is my preferred mode of transportation for the 70 mi round commute trip to the office & I prefer to use it for most other needs when it's not raining. June 6, 2015 read 100,...

Re: AMSOIL use in GL 1800?

I'm riding a 2002 GL1800 on my daily 35 mile commute from Humble to Houston if it's not raining when I open the garage door and my iPhone predicts 30% or less chance from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Switched from Mobile 1 to AMSOIL a couple of years ago and just turned 114,000 mi today. Rolled over to 100K on ...

Does the shelter have to be removed to replace the vehicle speed sensor? I have the new part and the oring seal.

Intermittent speedometer 2002 GL1800 FI error code 11

Speedo does not work for about the first 8-10 miles & FI Light comes on. Engine slows slightly as though there is current draw on alternator. Once speedo comes to life, switching the ignition off momentarily & turning back on, the FI light goes off & everything works normally including t...
