Re: '82 GL1100 Oil leak

Hi guys. Late reply, work got the better of me. First, as always thank you gentlemen for the advice! Rarely find such good and ready assistance. Secondly: @WingAdmin I did as was suggested with the powder... Brilliant! Turns out that I have many more little leaks happening on the old girl. All the g...

Re: '82 GL1100 Oil leak

@Aussie81Interstate
Thank you mate. But this a perfect round hole that sits to the back, at the bottom of crank case. I can't seem to find any reference to it in the manual I have. Beginning to think that I bought a bike that is far from original...

Thank you again mate.

'82 GL1100 Oil leak

Hey Gents. I've been reading the forums and still have questions... I have sprung an oil leak. The bottom of the engine is sleek with oil, and there is oil dripping from what assume to be a "weep hole" at the bottom back of the crank case. I can not identify if the the weep hole is the only source f...

Re: Mounting for Electric Fuel Pump on my '82 GL1100

Weeks later, have time off from work to get the electric pump installed. So I mounted the pump, and the last piece of this saga would be a rather important question. Remember that I am rather new to goldwings. Following on from advice give in the thread, to wire the pump into the kill switch. Lookin...

Brain Teaser

Hi Guys, I have a bit of a question... I met another GW enthusiast and he is busy resurrecting his father's '82 interstate. He came around today with the Handle bars and the kill switch unit still attached. I refused to take his start button/kill switch unit apart after he shook it and it sounded li...

Re: Mounting for Electric Fuel Pump on my '82 GL1100

@RBGERSON Good idea, and yes on the duty charges. Thanks for the suggestion. I do however think that I should use this opportunity to get well acquainted with the guts, still more unforeseen issues popping up. Old bikes I guess. So many small things that aggravate my OCD :) Thank you again, all of y...

Re: Mounting for Electric Fuel Pump on my '82 GL1100

@Johnyy Smoke. Thanks mate, but for me that is still not an option. I'll still be paying about $200 with SA exchange rate and hefty import tax. @f1xrupr. Thanks for the fuse idea. I am only now getting into the electronics on my goldwing. The mechanical side is less daunting honestly. Thanks guys!

Thank you RBGERSON.

One question though, is there a specific tilt switch that is compatible with the older goldwings?

Mounting for Electric Fuel Pump on my '82 GL1100

Hi Guys, Me again. I am about to install an electric fuel pump on my GL1100. The OEM one gave up the ghost last week and the electric is the least expensive of the two - $68 for the electric and $253(before import tax) for the mechanical. But that aside, I am looking for ideas for the mount - such a...

Re: Oil leaking on my GL1100

Thank you guys for your help, much appreciated. Strangest thing though. I had two oil-filter housings, the one that came with the bike and a second i picked up off from a guys selling his goldwing for spares - nice chrome piece it is too. I had put the chrome cover on and that when it started leakin...

Re: Oil leaking on my GL1100

@WingAdmin I did the little test but had to wait till this morning for evidence. The oil is coming from the oil filter area, I think that maybe the O-Ring failed, although it is new. The only other I discovered is oil spray from the tachometer area - where the cable enters the machine. Thank you aga...

Re: Possible transmission problem

@Overdog - Sadly I have retired my BMW now. The cost of upkeep here has become too steep [only BMW sells parts for these bikes]. Her clutch failed and the cost to replace was $1200 four years ago, with our current exchange rate I am looking at almost double that. But as you rightly say, when these o...

Oil leaking on my GL1100

Hi Guys, Another post in a list about getting the old girl running again properly. So the weekend past I took the bike out for a ride, a pleasant two hour cruise and she was going wonderfully. Then this morning however when I checked in on her to wash her on my off day I was met with a disturbing si...

Possible transmission problem

Hi guys. This is more of a question to confirm my suspicions. Sometimes when I pull away from a stop too fast there is a terrible sound - a grinding sound or something that is flying around. This happens intermittently. Transmission? This is the last ghost I have to lay to rest to get the old girl r...

Re: 1982 Gl1100 no power [dead] with new solenoid

Thank you guys!

@Redzrx you were right...the starter.

Found a automative shop here that rebuilt the starter for me. Got it back after almost three weeks and I mounted it this morning. Started witout a hitch.

Now onto the next ghost in the machine.

Thank you gents.

Re: 1982 Gl1100 no power [dead] with new solenoid

So... I am following the steps for removing and reinstalling the starter. This is what i found, thus far... 1) The end cap had no rubber gasket. Seems that there hasn’t been one in a long time. 2) The inside of end cap has a waxy strip running the whole of the inside. What is this for? I found a num...

Re: 1982 Gl1100 no power [dead] with new solenoid

Hi Gents Thank you for the replies. @ Rednaxs60 - Thank you for that schematic. Helped a lot. So here is my endeavour for this morning: I put the old solenoid back in and she turned over! Ran her for a while switched her off, then tried to switched her on again and that single click again. At this p...

1982 GL1100 startling fuel consumption

HI Guys, I have read the posts trying to get my head around an issue that developed just recently with the bike. Firstly - Three weeks ago I did 242KM (152 miles) on a full tank - Already fuelly. A week after that I only got 155km (96 miles) on a full tank. I discovered that there was fuel leaking f...
