Re: Is Left Side Cover Different

Success! I removed the seat as suggested and that allowed me to get my right hand fingers behind the cover just above the top left post/grommet. Using my left hand fingers at the front of the cover, I gently rocked it until that corner released. After that the cover pulled free quite easily. Re-inst...

Re: Is Left Side Cover Different

Thanks guys. I'm aware of the need to pull the side cover off correctly and carefully. I'm going to start by taking the seat off to see what I can see - only had the 1500 for a week so it's all new to me. I'll let you know if/when I'm successful.

I was thinking I might have to try something like that. I'll give it a try - thanks.

Is Left Side Cover Different

I can't seem to removed the left (as you're sitting on it) side cover. When I push on it, it has some give as if it's moving in the rubber grommets but the darn thing will not pull off. I've pulled as hard as I dare and from every angle but just no go. Is there a secret (to me) latch somewhere? A ma...

Re: Radio 1992 Canadian Edition Interstate

No I'm not. I wiggled the cover but it appeared solid. I'll try looking for the button near the gas cap that opens the lid - I didn't know about that (I ride a GL1100I) and the guy who's selling doesn't know much about Goldwings. It could very well be that the radio is actually there... Thanks

Radio 1992 Canadian Edition Interstate

All the information regarding the 1992 Interstate talks about the improved sound system for that year. Yet, a 1992 Interstate that I'm looking at is bare bones, including no stereo/radio. Is that something specific to the Canadian model or has somebody removed the radio? Thanks for you input...

Re: How important is keeping it stock

I think what a person does to their bike is their affair. I have to admit though I shake my head when people paint landscapes or stallions and eagles all over their machine and then try to sell it. Same thing with putting 3K worth of chrome on a 3K bike and expecting to get their money out of it. If...

Motion Pro - WOW

Twenty minutes ago I sent Motion Pro an email regarding a problem I had when I used the Carb Synch Pro tool for the first time. I just got a CALL from Corey at Motion Pro - parts are on the way. Unbelievable! The didn't answer the email - they called . I'm blown away - guess what brand name I'll be ...

Re: Tool Tube

Hmmm... not seeing that anyone has actually installed one on the 'wing. I keep my stuff in a saddlebag and I'd like to free up that space if I can find a clever spot to mount a decent sized tube. I'll let you know if anything works out.

Re: Tool Tube

I usually carry a couple of screwdrivers, 2 pliers, assortment of sockets/wrenches, some bailing wire (which saved my butt when my pull throttle cable broke 250 kms from home last week) and a few other things. I like to have a decent assortment to do some basic repairs. If somebody has a clever idea...

Tool Tube

Have any of you made and installed a tool tube on your GL1100? I'm thinking something like what a lot of the advrider guys/gals mound on the frame usually made out of PVC pipe with some sort of cap. on it.

Re: Rough Idle 1983 Interstate

Got it figured out - it was the tach. It occurred to me that the jumpiness was getting worse but the engine sounded fine. I put a stethscope to it and could hear the noise. Replaced it with another and all it well! Thanks much for the advice, I appreciate it.

Rough Idle 1983 Interstate

My engine rpm bounces up and down 200-300rpm at idle. This is a fairly recent change. I'm pretty sure it's not carb related as I recently swapped out the carbs which cured all my problem except for the rpm jumping up and down. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :?:

Re: carbs

Virgil - can you provide a bit more detail on the shop vac procedure. Can it be done with the carbs on the bike. And when you talk about cap and slide; you're referening to the cap on the top of the carb and the "piston" that has the spring and needle jet in the top of it? Number 8, if you...

Re: Throttle Return Spring on Carbs

The carbs are off the bike and I lubbed the cable just before I removed them. Don't feel any binding anyplace in particular just seems to be lots of drag in the system - I'll give everthing a dab of lube and see it that helps.

Re: Throttle Return Spring on Carbs

Thanks veg - I should have been so wise. My next question - what points on the carb assembly should be lubricated. With the spring back in place, there seems to be a lot of friction and the throttles don't seem to really snap back.

Throttle Return Spring on Carbs

I removed the spring and can't seem to get enough tension on it when I put it back on. I can only get half a turn on it when I try and load it up when it looks/feels like I need a full rotation. Anybody else done this process before, this one thing is keeping me from getting my carbs back on. Thanks.

Rough Running 1983 Interstate

My engine recently started developing less power and the tach jumps up and down (200 RPM either way) at idle and somewhat less a higher speeds. I pulled the plug wires individually while the engine was running - no apparent effect when I pulled the #2 cylinder lead but the engine nearly stalled when...

WWTB - Speedometer Drive 1983 Interstate

I'm looking for the whole box at the front wheel hub on the axle. As far as I can tell, the 1983 is specific and other years have a different part number. If anyone knows different please let me know. If you have one in good shape (including the plastic drive gear and mounting screw hole) please let...

Chrome Shields Exhaust

I haven't had a chance to have a close look - are the chrome header strips removable? I'm suspecting an exhaust leak under the shield and I'm hoping they're removable - as opposed to bending them out of the way, which will undoubtabley break something. Thanks.

Re: How to get the bike up on its center stand

I'm a pretty big guy so I don't find getting my 1100 up on the centre stand a big deal (once I got the mechanics down) but if there is a secret beyond brute strength I think it lies in letting your legs do the pushing rather than the arms doing the pulling. When I'm putting my bike on the stand I pu...

I used to use the Honda plactic cleaner but there's no going back since I tried this new pledge. It bug guts and whatnot off much better and is all round easier to use. Another great tip for this site.
