Testing the old carb tops for air leaks

Does anyone have a good way to test the old carb tops with the plastic insert in the center for air leaks. Mine look a little rough and I would like to make sure they do not leak on my 75 wing. I would like to keep it all stock and not change to the newer style.

Re: Strange electrical problem

A dead short to ground in your starter can shut the entire bike down. I had a similar problem as yours and it was my starter switch. This was on my 76 cb750a and that has a similar set up to the 75 76 wing. You can bypass your switch and kill button assy and see lf your problem goes away. Something ...

Re: Strange electrical problem

Sounds to me like your starter button is shorting. If everything is good until you hit that start switch I would start there. You will need a wiring diagram. Clymer manual or here on this site.

Also what do you think of the Napco GL1000 carb kits from Jerrys cycle. They are 79.00 for 4.

Re: Running Rich 75 Wing. (I think)

I attached a picture of my #1 plug from the left side so you can see the condition after a 20 mile ride. Also I am using D7EA a hotter than normal plug.

Running Rich 75 Wing. (I think)

I recently rebuilt the carbs on my 75 wing. It seems to be running rich because I don't need hardly any choke to get it running when cold. Also it rides fine down the road but is a little hesitant when I get on the throttle. When I come to a stop the idle is unstable. Sometimes when I hit the thrott...

Running Rich 75 Wing.

The plugs on my 75 Goldwing are a little black and sooty (D8EA plugs). What is the best way to lean things out a little. Is the only way the needle jets? Thanks.

Air jet settings 1975 Wing

Thanks for your feedback. I have another question. I set the air settings and synced the carbs, it seems to run pretty good now but above 4K RPM's I don't seem to get any more power it just bogs down a little. My plugs are a little black and sooty so I am running rich. What is the best way to lean t...

Clutch working hard

Does anyone know why the clutch on my 75 Goldwing works so hard. I've never had a bike where it works so hard. I'm afraid the cable will brake.

75 GL1000 Question

Can you still get spark with a defective candenser. Also where would I look for possible air leaks on my carbs. Idle will go up and come back down slowly. Everything seems to be tight. Do the gas caps breath on these. I notice everytime I remove the gas cap it releases a lot of air.

Re: 75 Goldwing problem

This a new start up after a rebuild. I rebuilt the carbs with new kits and found the carb air jets at 1 to 1.5 turns out so thats where I reset them when I reinstalled the carbs. Does this sound OK. I also hear some loud knocking coming from the engine, cannot pin-point it though.

75 Goldwing problem

Why would one side of the engine run hotter than the other side. After just 5 minites of idle the right side is much hotter than the left. They both have good spark and compression and are getting gas. Could it be a timing issue. Thanks.

75 goldwing restoration start up problem

I have just finished retoring a 75 GL1000 and finally was ready to fill the radiator and gas tank and give it a try. To make a long story short it starts and runs but the right side (cylinders 1 and 3) get very hot and the left side (2 and 4) hardly warm up at all. This is after about 5 minutes of r...
