Re: Greetings and tips for first big bike

SLOW riding practice around cones.... look for where the local Riding school/class is held visit and watch. Preferably take the course! but practice the low speed- turns- lock to lock- over and over and over. AS you get more confident- you'll ride better. A replacement horn LOUD.. is always a good i...

Re: high mileage vs age

MAINTENANCE. MAINTENANCE. MAINTENANCE. Age means little if the maintenance has been done regularly. Mileage means little if maintenance has been done regularly. That said- I usually buy LOW mileage over NEWER vehicle with higher mileage. ex: 1991 Lumina 6 years old 68,000 miles. v 1989 Buick Regal w...

Re: rear tire on gl1500 goldwing 1995

Can someone tell me the average mileage i should be getting on my rear tire. I ran a Bridgestone g702-160-80-16 and got 7500 miles on it. Don't know if that is good or bad? IS THERE ANY TIRE THAT WILL GIVE ME BETTER MILAGE ON MY 1995 1500 wing? I have never checked my milage before ,I just replaced...

Re: Darkside: No Taxi Tire...now what?

WHY put an auto tire on a M/C ? is it price? ok..what is your life worth? $20-$30? Is it tire wear? (also PRICE) no tire manufacturer - none, zip, nada- bupkiss- will sign off on an auto tire on a m/c. The sidewall is the issue. Car tires are not made to lean over like bikes. Yeah, yeah. I know- it'...

Re: Pros and cons of back off brake unit

Had a backoff setup to wigwag on my bike for awhile. Worked good and never had any issues with LEOs. It was actually the opposite. I had LEOs follow me short distances when i happened to coincidentally be near a traffic accidents thinking i was a patrol bike. They quickly realized what i was and mo...

Re: No Ethanol Fuel

Our local Marathon station has a separate no-ethanol fuel (which is also premium, unfortunately, so expensive!). I use it for my small engines as well as in the motorcycles when they go away for the winter. I use a fuel stabilizer and RxP fuel additive. Haven't seen any non-ethanol fuel in D/FW are...

I agree with one another post. I bet texting while driving was involved. I see it all the time. Just yesterday, driving home from work, this lovely young thing was staring down at her lap with one set of wheels on my side of the double yellow. If I'd been on one of my scoots I would have spit on he...

Yep, in the UK, the zipper is on your left when wearing the jacket/coat/hoodie/cardigan/tracksuit-top. Doesn't matter whether male or female. Has been like this to my knowledge for at least the 48 years I have been on the planet, and maybe twice that long. Just like driving in the UK; it's on the '...

Re: First ride after rebuild

if you trim the seat...and once you have set the height you like- look into a CUSTOM seat, designed FOR YOU.. not cheap, but comfort and rideability are worth it.
the shorter shocks/Fork springs will help maybe even a rear tire with a lower sidewall profile?

back in 1965 I saw a new Chevy engine out at a dealer.. 1 piston remained intact. the other 7 were shattered. a screw from the carb had made it's way into the engine and managed to bounce around enough to trash 7 cylinders. Car had 17 miles on it. Not yet been sold

Re: Goldwing Wannabes

I like to ask the HARLEY folks what they do at 10,000 miles for their bike.. usually it is rebuild the top end. I say oh- I changed the oil in my GW. What about 25,000 miles? they rebuild it from the cylinders up.. I change the timing belt and tensioners , just based on age and the air filter. What ...

Re: Anyone been turned away from CycleMax?

yup- SEARS is dying off. took on Kmart and got away from their core business. on the plus side- they out lasted Montgomery Wards and several other large retail stores. My point is that the customer ain't always right. Never has been! I did years in retail as a worker bee and as management. Sometimes...

Re: Anyone been turned away from CycleMax?

SEARS had a 'satisfaction guaranteed' sign over their doors. CycleMax has their own policy. While working at SEARS- I saw an old hippie bring in a worn out, deflated, seams torn, laces gone football and ask for a replacement. We gave him one. Ditto on the Craftsman ratchet that looked like it had be...

I started my 97 1500 and the clock/radio display was blank, radio would not work. nuthin"! rode home. Shut it off and the turned the key back on- everything worked!! My brothers GW1800 trike kit has a plexiglass device behind the passenger-before the top trunk that is supposed to help with buffeting the passenger. similar to the devices Mercedes uses in their convertibles on the back of the headrests

Be careful about buying a taller windshield.. the angle of my 97 Aspencade 's fairing mounted windshield, makes me be cautious when mounting the bike- the top edge can bang into my head!

At some point one has to become an adult and recognize that you bought the wrong part. Suck it up and 'sell it on eBay or Craig's List'. Don't whine about having installed it and not liking it. Don't pop up and complain that your were treated poorly, when it is YOU that failed to handle your purchas...

If I were looking to part with $30K for a new bike, I would be getting a Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental. They have really stepped up with this bike. It seems they have asked the right questions and built the bike people have asked for. While it is a Cruiser, that seems to be most popular righ...

Re: traffic light stop/wait/go best practice?

One last thing - the second your bike is moving your left foot is back on the foot peg. This is your best balance position. I constantly see people move off from a stop with one leg hanging out, presumably for balance - sometimes all the way through the intersection. That much weight off to the sid...

CORN STARCH. oh Yeah. there may be stuff that is soothing after you get butt rash- but CORN STARCH will do that AND work to prevent it! My ship (a DD) had no AC for enlisted berthing- we cooled the area by washing down the ship at a certain point in the temperature drop-- too soon and you got steam,...
