Re: Progressive 416 air shocks

I asked them exactly that same question. They said they aren't making an air shock at all. He said the replacement would the 412 non air. And you're right also about wanting to sell a new set. They tried to sell me a set of 412's

Progressive 416 air shocks

This is kind of embarrassing but I just called Progressive Suspension and was told that the 416 air shock has been discontinued and they no longer service them. How clueless and uninformed am I not to know this?! I have one that is leaking air out the top and was hoping to get it serviced. Any sugge...

Re: cleaning GL1500 Air compressor switches

I understand the good advice about the WD-40. And I have used the contact cleaner but it just doesn’t seem like there’s much lubricant involved so wouldn’t the parts wear out faster?

Re: cleaning GL1500 Air compressor switches

They can come apart but the older the plastic the more brittle. I have a '96 Aspencade and I used small screwdrivers to bend the plastic just enough to let the tabs clear the slots in the housing. I used Triflo and WD40 and it made the switches work normal again. You might first try sliding the spra...

Re: LCD issue

I had a similar problem and I'm with wing admin on this one. when I took it apart I found dark(hot) spots on the circuit board. I found a dash unit on eBay with a fried LCD panel but everything else was functional. The circuit board looked really good so I put 3 coats of clear coat on it and ordered...

Re: '99 1500 Maintenance

I'm curious about the heat shield. Sorry, not trying to hijack the conversation. Is the rubber heat shield necessary? Mine was torn up pretty badly and a bear to get back in properly. And is it possible to make one out of some kind of rubber? They are not cheap. Last time I checked they are still av...

You could interchange the fans. If the fan in question acts the same then you will know the fan is the issue.

Re: GRRR! Another hour spent tryng to align the drive shaft and u-Joint!

If you ever have to do it again, this is how I do it without help: To get the U-joint to align with the drive shaft, slide a piece 1/8" thick by 1" wide steel flat stock, or similar material, into the swing arm and slide it under the U-Joint to prop it up. Now slide the drive line only into the swi...

Re: rear shock leaking air

Thanks newday. I ordered a seal kit and am going to give it a try. Have you done this repair and are there any unseen things I should look for? It looks very doable for my limited skills. Thanks again for the info.

Re: rear shock leaking air

Thanks Mark. I had a feeling that it was going to involve a few phone calls to Progressive. I'll try to update any results. I haven't removed the shock yet. This is bad timing for me. I was hoping to be riding again in a week or two. It's been a long winter. :(

rear shock leaking air

My '96 Aspencade has progressive 416 shocks installed. I noticed I was slowly losing pressure when I pumped them up so I did the soap spray test and found a leak coming from the top of one of the shocks. My question, is this repairable by me or do I have to return it to progressive for the repair. I...

Re: Engine has 'dieseling' sound

You can get that hose on from the top with the right angled needle nose pliers if they are long enough. as for the pinch clamp, that is another story. Glad it was a vacuum noise :D

Re: Anyone been turned away from CycleMax?

Having read thru this post, ordered many items from Cyclemax, and having owned my own business for many years, I am again reassured of one thing. The age old saying of "the customer is always right" is not true. I'm in agreement with Wingadmin on this one. I've experienced it many times over.

GL 1500 relay testing

I was looking for a discussion on the forum about testing GL1500 relays. Can anyone help me find one? I ordered replacements from Scott for my '96 Aspencade but would like to test the original ones properly. Thanks in advance.

Re: New to me 1999 GL1500 SE and no rear turn signals!

You should be able to sell the front wheel covers for a decent price. I'm sure they are well sought after by some, especially if they are in good shape. That looks like a beautiful machine.

GL1500 front forks

I have a question concerning the front suspension. I'm looking for a straight left front fork assembly. Would '88 thru 2000 be the same? I have a '96 Aspencade and was wondering if the tubes are the same for all GL1500's. By the way, this forum is the best and friendliest. By far the most knowledgea...

Re: New to me gl1500

I agree totally with Wingadmin. Timing belts before hittng the starter button. Realistically, theres is a good chance it will run with the old belts, but it's not worth the chance. You,ve just been given an amazing gift, but you're taking a chance on messing up a good motor with one twist of the thr...
