Re: Recommend a good quality air gauge please
I feel your pain. I've used the Stockton air gauge with consistent accurate results and I really like the JACO air gauge/inflator. It also helps if you've multiple bikes to have different adapters and/or 90 degree chucks. See below for links. https://jacosuperiorproducts.com/collections/air-chucks h...

Re: Sixth Annual GoldwingDocs Gathering, August 24 - 28, 2022, Elkins, WV, and the Monongahela National Forest Area
Hi All- I've not traveled with ya'll before but I might be able to this year. The Skyline has amazing views and lovely places to stop - especially the Skyland - https://www.goshenandoah.com/lodging/skyland. The Skyline turns into the Blue Ridge Parkway around Roanoke VA and goes all the way to the G...

Re: CENTRAMATIC STAINLESS WHEEL BALANCERS
Here is another thought to consider: A product such as Ride-On will not only dynamically balance tires, but will also seal punctures. Actually I use Dyna Beads in some bikes and Ride-On in others and I like both products. I guess you will need to choose "fix a flat" v "balance only&qu...

2012 Goldwing ABS NAV Fork Rebuild
There is a lot of information on this forum and all over the internet on fork rebuilding. However if you've never ventured into this area because perhaps you didn't trust yourself, weren't sure of the technology, or thought it too complex, then I hope these pics will show you it's really quite simpl...

Re: No More Slave Cylinders
Yessir you are correct. I used the JB weld technique in a prior GL1000 restoration. See my pics below to repair pitting in a 1978 front transmission/water pump housing. The repair has lasted just fine. The keys are cleanliness, careful sanding and yes - patience! I decided not to go this route on my...

Re: No More Slave Cylinders
Wingnut - great reminder! I rebuilt the clutch slave on my 2003 ST1300 and it still leaked. So had to purchase the whole assembly. The cost was nearly the same anyway. The reason for the failure was that both the bore and the piston developed pits likely from water in the brake fluid. It was a mess ...

Assistance from Electronic Wizards!
Hi All- I hope you can provide me some insight on this strange audio problem. I have installed: --XM radio --Garmin Nuvi --2 channel audio mixer --Bluetooth --Ground loop isolator All works well except when the Nuvi talks, the sound is distorted - barely audible. This only happens if the Nuvi is run...

Re: Engine squeal after warmup
Hi, I'm not hearing a squeal per-se - but more of a slight chirping sound. This to me sounds pretty normal. I was expecting to hear that shreeking sound like a car when fan belt is bad. Do make sure that you follow the belt tensioning procedure - don't add any extra tension. Tensioners should be but...

Re: Best GPS for non-Nav wings
That's funny! I seek out the great ball of string and such when I ride also. I sometimes use my phone/Nuvi similarly to what you're doing. I've played around with the programming and have created various stops on the trips with success, but I liked the freedom of the side adventure too. If it's a lo...

Re: what lift do you use to work on your goldwing?
I use a Redline lift which is pretty much the same as the HFT lift. I have a 20 gallon upright air compressor which makes it go up quite well. I have an ATV lift for small quick things when I don't need to bring the bike into my shop. A recent installation is an overhead hoist and that works great a...

Re: Best GPS for non-Nav wings
Hi All, I am using a Garmin Nuvi 2597 and it works just fine. I can switch it to my other bikes as needed. It has a design which requires a special charge cord (when charging only) so it doesn't go into Garmin update mode. Something about one of the USB pins. Anyway, recently I went inside and insta...

Re: 81 Gl1100 front noise
Hi Pat. There are a couple of things you can try before going thru the trouble of engine removal. If you do need to pull it, then that is another conversation and I’ll be glad to talk with you about it. Even if you pull it, you might not need to split the case. Just being able to remove the clutch, ...

Re: 81 Gl1100 front noise
One of the issues diagnosing engines is that sound is hard to pinpoint. The stethoscope is certainly a big help though. Another thing is trying to work on a GL with the engine in the frame. That’s a knuckle buster. That said, I thought of a couple things and then you may have to pull the engine if y...

Re: 81 Gl1100 front noise
Here are a couple of thoughts: Starter: After rebuilding a ’78 engine, I used Synthetic motorcycle oil and the engine started and ran great. I decided to change the oil and used Castrol 20-50 standard oil. Once it got cold the starter sprag clutch sounded exactly like yours does when cold. Yes, your...

Re: Breaking up with an older bike
It's a terrible feeling! And...still struggling. I've ridden GL's all my life and took ownership of a lovely 1989 in 2007. Since then, it has had carbs rebuilt, new this and new that as I replaced the aftermarket stuff getting it back to OEM. A labor of love. I even had the seat rebuilt and installe...
