Re: Any updates on de-rusting fuel tanks?
I use "The Works" (original formula, non scented) toilet bowl cleaner. It is designed to remove rust stains, etc from toilet bowls. You can buy these by the quart from the Dollar Store (for $1) or most home improvement stores... maybe even the grocery store. Same directions as Metal Rescue... you ju...

Re: GL1000 Plastics restoration
I've also seen people use 3M vinyl wrap to cover bikes/cars. Look it up on Youtube... hundreds of colors and patterns available. All you need is a squeegee, razor, and heat gun. Looks pretty damn good if you take your time and do a neat job.

Re: slip-on mufflers
The EMGO wide-mouth Dunstall mufflers look very similar to the stock Honda-style megaphone mufflers. They have a nice tone, have universal mounts, and are easy to re-pack the baffles when the time comes. I've had them on my Goldwing about 5-6 years and they are due to be re-packed, but the chrome is...

Re: help - 78 slow shifting and rear brake issue
Shifting: Mine did the same thing after sitting 5+ years. Clutch basket gets gummed up with old oil and doesn't shift easy... especially trying to find neutral from a stop or clunking into gear from 1>2. I drained enough oil to add a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil and ran that for 100miles... then did...

Re: How to synchronize your carburetors
Just FYI, a lot of RC boats use the same M5 brass nipples to plumb their water cooled engines. I have found them online for as little as 25-cents apiece, plus shipping. They don't include O-rings but I think a smear of RTV should work just fine.

Re: How to remove, rebuild and reinstall your starter
Just pulled the starter from my 78 GL1000. Had to drop the left header, remove the shifter, and remove the rear header stud... just wasn't enough room to clear the spline otherwise. Starter was full of crud as expected. I absolutely could not remove the armature... my "windings" around the case has ...

Re: 78 GL1000 wont idle
Could be a bad battery ground and/or bad condenser ground. Try temporarily bypassing resistor ballast on your coils (ceramic-looking brick) and see if that helps it idle... it will give you a stronger spark at idle. Just don't leave it this way forever or you'll burn up your points and overheat the ...
