Re: Head gasket kit

Tallman ; I used a Athena kit 9 years ago , getting ready to go to Sturges . All of the O-rings , and other items were well made , and gave no issues when re-assembling the top-end . Unfortunately , the right side head gasket went south on me up at Kayenta Az. , about 200 miles from home . A "Brothe...

Re: Engine Coolant

Pam ; I've been using Peak anti-freeze in my Wings here in Arizona for over thirty years with no adverse effects , whatsoever . My "78" GL-1000 had over 860,000 miles on it when I sold it three years ago , and the current owner says he has put another 100 thou on it since . My current "83" GL-1100A ...

Re: New to GoldwingDocs withan 83 GL1100A Aspencade

Mikejana ; I also have a 83 "Cade" , and I whole-heartedly agree with changing the timing belts as soon as possible . Not doing so it could very expensive , very quickly . As far as the so called "Integrated Braking" system is concerned , Honda did that as a compensation to all of the "Morons" with ...

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

Mainviking ; you have every right to post on the subject . You ride ...and you do and don't wear a helmet . Your opinion is just as valid as anybody else's on these pages . Maybe more so , based on experience . Mention helmets and people get their panties in a twist , and the helmet Nazi's get all s...

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

Your math is a little off ; but close . I've been riding for 55 years and my motorcycle has always been my primary transportation . Many own motorcycles as a weekend recreational vehicle , but I'm not one of , "those guys" . For years ; my daily back and forth to work was 145 miles . Buy gas for a c...

Lived in Phoenix for almost forty years now , and ridden a Wing for 37 of them as primary transportation by choice . haven't reached that threshold yet . Played 36 holes of golf at Palm Valley Golf Club the day it was 122 officially .

Re: Question about windshield height

You say you've thought about suspension , tires , etc.,etc , but what has actually been checked ? The reason I'm asking this ; is because I had exactly the same handling problem twenty years ago with my 78 GL-1000 , equipped with a Vetter , lowers , and Califia bags and trunk . It was NOT a windshie...

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

Always a topic that guarantees conflict and controversy . Almost as bad as trying to discuss the 2nd Amendment and gun rights with a left-wing radical , anti-gun advocate . In my fifty-five years of riding ; this subject is a one ; or the other . With absolutely no middle ground from one side . And ...

@ Newday : Sometimes it helps to read the entire post before responding . If you had ; you'd never have posted the comment directed at me , in such a "snarky" manner . Anytime I read a post from a GW-newbie , I try to respond with either correct info , or point them in the right direction . Maybe my...

Re: Superstitions

Had them on most of my bikes over the years ; but apparently the "Demons" didn't get the memo . Three knock-downs ; all by left-turning cagers who think they have the right of way over a bike . And one texting idiot bimbo that tagged me from behind while I was sitting at a traffic light . Guess she ...

Re: 1981/1983 1100 Help?

Goldwings have a temperature sending unit / switch that is supposed to turn the fan on & off automatically , but they tend to go south , and are somewhat expensive to replace . Relatively speaking . Just priced one last Friday for my 83 Acade , and the Stealer-ship currently wants $68 and change for...

Re: Headlamp modulators and big friggen windshields

While it may not have the "cool factor" of a lot of products for getting rain off a windshield , I've been using good old-fashioned Pledge furniture polish for over forty years , and it has worked extremely well . Get the Pledge in the Brown can , with NO LEMON OIL in it . Anything with Lemon oil wi...

Re: small scuff on windshield

You might try some very fine polishing compound on a small sponge ball in a variable speed drill . The small amount you would need can probably be had a local custom car paint shop , if you talk right to them when asking . Better still the custom painters can probably steer you to something that wou...

Re: Riding boots

Gore-Tex ? Great for air-breathin jackets , but for boots ? For ridin ? I respect my feet and ankles more than that . I strongly suggest to anyone who rides to get high grade , high quality boots made of real leather , or preferably Sharkskin , if you can afford them . For the price I've seen on Gor...

Re: Very bad fuel filter

Unfortunate that Honda has become "H-D" when it comes to certain parts , and asks for "stupid money" on some items . Was going to get a new fuel filter from the local "Stealer-ship" the other day , for a 96 - 1100VTX , I'm working on . Same filter as GL-1000 / GL-1100 . The young parts dude ; who is...

Re: figured out what all parts are but this one.

The unit is a "air dam" or "spoiler" . It was sold by Markland , and other companies back in the 80's-90's . It mounts at the bottom of the radiator , to supposedly force more air into & through the radiator . Don't know if it works or not , but they look nice when mounted . Bike bling . lol

Re: Winter's Upon us, what are you doing to your wing while it sleeps?

@ WingAdmin : Old Truck Drivers trick on dash lights is to put in Orange bulbs in the dash , if you can find them to match your sockets . Cuts down on the glare , and lets you see the instruments much clearer & sharper at night . And it doesn't mess with your night vision , as much . Lucky you live ...

Re: Goldwing GL1200 Aspencade, 1984. Front wheel vibration

There are multiple causes for front-end shimmy beside loose neck bearings , which tend to be the obvious , and "go-to" normal fix . Let me list a few , from experience . 1. Worn fork slider bushings 2. Improper amount of fork oil - Not enough or unbalanced amount per side . 3. Wheel bearing starting...

Hey Mike . There have been several other topic posts regarding this issue , with options available . I have been using Sea-Foam additive for the last eight or nine years with good results , and have seen no deterioration of any rubber components in my fuel system . Re: The end of Ethanol-free fuel in the US

For those who have Bikes of the "older" vintage , with carbs , and all those un-cured rubber O-rings ; I highly recommend regular use of Sea-Foam at every other fill-up , to guard against damage to both your carbs , and engine / valves . About one ( 1 ) ounce per three or four gallons . We have "Ble...
