Re: This could be a new one. Short to ground.

id question a "dead short" or current draw as your problem. Depleting a fully charged battery in 8 miles is going to smoke check something, seriously you would smell it, id bet on the battery, a fully charged battery with no charge current would probably run for 40 miles. load test the battery. jmo

I am replacing a front 4 year old dunlop elite 3 with less than 400 miles on it! the sidewall is cracked on both sides all around the bead? manufacture date 2013. The bike was stored in a metal shipping container in Canada for 3 years before i bought it in April maybe that something to do with it. S...

Re: TIME TO POKE THE BEAR -Carb Cleaners and Fuel Additives: What Works?

gasoline on it's own is an extremely effective solvent, it has been my experience that any type of foreign matter that can accumulate in a wet fuel environment can withstand any type of "marketing magic" you can throw at it. And this includes the ridiculous "sea foam" which is the latest scam for ev...

Re: It must be me! "manuals download"

Thank you! ill make great use of it. This forum and it's members are so unique in comparison to Harley forums! Maybe the smooth peace and quiet of riding a Goldwing and the bike making it home from your rides has something to do with it.

It must be me! "manuals download"

Im sure it must be me and my lack of computer skills. I was simply looking around on the forum and saw the "Manuals" and view or download free. No matter what i do i am prompted to buy the manual from Helm. Now $65 for the 96 electrical troubleshooting manual isnt that bad but can i actually view th...

Re: Want To Buy A 91 Interstate And Need Advice/ Thanks

looks like a beautiful bike, you wont know what it needs until it's yours! the age of these bikes works against them but they are still touring worldwide!. does it have any maint records? it is possible with the low miles that it has never been touched mechanically so your looking at 27 year old cam...

Re: clutch issues

check out the post"weird noise when clutch released" and look at the exploded view of the clutch actuating components. it sounds like the lifting assy which releases the pressure from the plates has got an issue. i would at least pull the cover that the slave mounts to and inspect for anything obvio...

Re: Easy way to open side marker light?

just my idea, that looks like alot of lights but couldent you simply drill a hole in the back large enough to allow the strip to be pulled through and additional holes on the fwd/aft ends and simply fish the strip in and around using .032 safety wire or any suitable pull device. when finished use bl...

Re: clutch issues

if it just started after the rebuild of the master/slave than id lean toward assembly problem. if the clutch lever is a "rock solid" feel when it stops than id guess an interference in the lever pivot area. if it has any give to it at all than it is one of the two pistons hung up. understand i just ...

Re: Getting a 93 Aspencade running after 4 years sitting

0-57 psi max on rear suspension max! center stand is a learning process, it is technique more than brute force. sounds like float needles are sticking in one or both carbs. ill catch flack for this method but it's mine. i dont really buy into the whole "sea foam" thing. drain the fuel tank completel...

Geez, hey keep it simple! the clutch switch has been talking to you forever! not sure if this switch is normally open/closed but i'd bet it is the problem. the ecu is being trick fu'd that the clutch is out when placed into gear!

Re: What do you think of this bike?

iv'e got to also advise caution, i love these bikes but the fact that the throttle is stuck and assumeably it is the carbs and not just simply gunked up on the bars imho the carb removal and rebuild is one of the toughest jobs to perform on these bikes with unexpected results. just to get to the car...

Re: 1997 GL1500 SE Weird clutch noise when clutch released

Doesn't sound terribly difficult. Reason I'm curious is mine is also a little noisy when the clutch is released but quiets down when you pull it in. snip.... All the GL1500s I have been around sound like that. Noisy when idling in neutral with clutch out and quiets down when you pull the clutch in....

This forum was so instrumental in restoring my 1200, a guy made me an offer i could not refuse and i sold it. I have been riding my 01 WideGlide exclusively til this deal came up on a 1996 1500 SE with 79K miles. It is beautiful and everything works on it, it sure is alot bigger/bulkier than the 120...

Re: New water pump leak

i havent done my water pump yet but i would give it a good ride close to the house in the event it starts pissing. if it's coming out the weep hole id say its not based upon anything you did during assy. it would be the impeller shaft seal which comes pre installed correct? an error in assy on your ...

congrats on the bike, its sure to be one of your favorites. since the bike has been sitting, give it time in all areas and ride it/use it. the electrical glitches could work themselves out on their own or stay non functional and you'll know what to address first. its probably to late but run the car...

Re: What parts should I replace/repair?

"CAUTION" dont have an unknown mech start with a carb rebuild on your bike. start him out simple and see how he performs.
