Re: preferred alternator for poorboy?

The alternator for a 1983 GEO METRO is recommended. Probably Rock Auto or any automotive parts supplier should be able to get one for you. I used this one and it works fine. Got it from Napa.

Re: No start after setting

I use a trickle charger on mine, just plug it in when the bike is at home. It sits for long periods up to 4 weeks. You can get one for around $30.00. It also will save you money on batteries and time. Your battery will be fully charged at all times.

Re: Squealing noise from front of engine

If it wasn’t squealing before, your belts could be too tight. Once it is warmed up again and makes this noise, feel the timing belt covers they should not be hot. Good luck with this.

Re: Poorboy Pulley Options

Usually the torque of the bolt will hold the pulley from spinning. Be sure to use blue lock tite on the bolt. Your new bolt will need to be 1” longer than the original crank shaft bolt. Really Don Pigot (Poor boy) kit does come with the best pulley. He can take a while to reply but I would not give ...

Re: Poorboy Pulley Options

3 to 4 inch diameter pulley will work. Mine is 4” from poor boy and it does the job just fine. I did a lot of looking and found the KRC 40150340 would work. Also MCS INDUSTRIAL #82223306 by Woods. There was another one from the UK that was an aluminum V pulley ( forget the company name right now but...

Re: Amazon starter

Try the starter with the spark plugs removed. Engine may be hydro locked with the MMO In the cylinders. Just a thought, these starters are usually fairly rugged. Good luck with your project.

Rear brake rotor minimum spec is 6mm. Purchase new one from EBC not cheap but good. Cheapest I have found is from Amazon. Or try ebay for used Honda rotor. Good luck

Re: 85 Wing stalls after it gets up to temperature

Check your pulse generators, they will stop working when your bike reaches operating temperature and work when cold. If you try to restart too soon your bike will back fire but not start. They are inside the timing belt cover but you can check their resistance where they plug into the wiring harness...

Re: 30 amp main fuse loosens up

If you look in the Gl 1200 DIY section you will see a step by step way to replace the dog bone fuse with a blade style. It is an inexpensive fix and it gets rid of the dog bone and it’s related problems.

Could be the wrong synthetic oil. If oil used has friction modifiers clutch will slip.

Re: Sudden failure left me stranded

It certainly is showing symptoms of bad pulse generators. They will operate until they reach a certain temperature and fail. The bike will not start again until it has sat for a while allowing them to cool down and function again.

Pulse generators on 1985 to 87 should read around 320, 1984 around 1200.

I used an impact gun for removing the bolt. Put bike in gear and had a friend step on the rear brake. The bolt came out with out a problem. Use blue loctite and a torque wrench when re installing the bolt.

Re: Poor Boy vs Stator Replacement

If your poor boy alternator dies, it can be fixed anywhere. If your stator dies anywhere you will have a problem. That being said, it is a tough choice. I agree pulling the motor yourself will be a great opportunity to clean check and fix many things. Good luck.

Re: Started a home built Poorboy

Using the square stock for the lower mount will give lots of strength to stop the braket from flexing. Looks great so far.
