Re: 86 aspy SEi engine replacement.
I agree with Scott, that colour green is Kawasakiish. Need more black pinstripng on the rear bags, shelter and side panels to tone down the green and really make it "pop".

Re: Cheap oil for a crankcase flush??
If you are going to flush by changing oil and starting the engine, make sure it's oil for a wet clutch. Wet clutch systems don't like friction modifiers.

Re: What a nice 2000
Had collector plate on my-ex '95 1500, and have collector plate on my '85 Limited Edition. ICBC is not too anal about seats and such. As long as it looks like original you should be okay. The Corbin seat should be fine in the photos you have to send in, 5 in total. These photos are done from a dista...

Thanks again Red! To ensure the lights only come on with ignition on, where would be the best circuit to use. Also, using a fuse panel like the posted pic, any issues with seat interference. The one in the mounting pic looks different, and the square style seems to be a little bulky for that positi...

Great review. Have thought about these units; however, cost up here in the north is magnified. Having mentioned this, planning a trip to Tuktoyaktuk for June 2023. My brother, Sonya and myself. Will be riding my RE Himalayan, and brother and Sonya in the car. It's one of those bucket list, do once f...

Re: Tar Snakes
In 2015 I rode across the upper US states to get home to northern Ontario on my-ex 1800 - CT on the rear. Pulled into a roadside stop that had a significant number of road snakes. Went round one corner, rode over a 6" wide tar snake and the rear slid out until it hit pavement, then straightened...

Re: GL 1200 stator and rectifier on a GL1100
There's only two types of regulator/rectifiers (RR), shunt and series. A MOSFET is an internal electronic component used in modern shunt and series RRs. No such unit as a MOSFET RR. A MOSFET replaces the older electronic internal components, and has been around for a long time. The name MOSFET has c...

Re: Poorboy Pulley Options
I am going to have to look at the install. Shouldn't matter which 1800 rad fan as long as you connect it so that it pulls the air through the rad. Install it so that it is high enough to just miss the crank pulley and allow for a belt change. I do believe I attached the 1800 fan to the 1200 metal br...

A rad fan option is one from an 1800. I installed one, works well, a bit more low profile than the 1200 rad fan.

You can buy a new starter solenoid starter plug on eBay or Amazon for a less than $15.00 CDN. Cand get the starter solenoid and the plug as a set. If you get a new plug, you can remove the wires that come with it, remove the wires from the plug that does not fit, and use the wires and connector in t...

Re: Head's Up™ Voltage Monitor -- who has used one?
I had one on my 2012 V-Strom, sold, that I took off and may have lying around. It works quite well, but I prefer a readout - analogue or digital. I put a digital voltage meter on my 1500 - since sold, but had it wired into a relay activated accessory fuse block. Used the Fuzeblock FZ1 because of spa...

Should I buy an '85 Limited Edition or '86 SE-i CFI model Gold Wing
Decided to do a primer for the purpose of viewing to purchase an ’85 GL1200 Limited Edition, or an ’86 GL1200 Special Edition-Injected (SE-i), both fuel injected models. There are quite a few queries regarding buying one of these CFI models, and most queries are about the CFI system. It is necessary...

Re: is the injections sys on the LTD reliable?
The '85 and '86 fuel injected models are not very well understood. The more info you have regarding parts, what can be iused, alternatives to some of the more scarce parts, the easier it is to make a decision on whether to own or not. These two models are some 36/37 years old. Finding parts for olde...

Re: Sourcing vacuum lines
If you are doing the vacuum hoses, sounds like you are going to take out the carbs and such. If so, I have a new set of the OEM water hoses, Randack's carb kits, new carb insulators - carb to engine and a few other items for a 1500 engine. Bought these when I had my '95 1500, but have since sold it ...

Re: is the injections sys on the LTD reliable?
Is the injections system on the 1200 Limited reliable? Why did Honda stepped back to carbs in later models? thx! The ECU (computer) that runs the fuel injection was very early technology. It was fairly reliable, but there was a price premium for this complex and advanced (for the time) system, whic...

Re: Poorboy Pulley Options
V-belt pulleys are good and work well. Like the micro groove belts myself. A 3 1/2 or 4 inch crank pulley is good. You may need an additional spacer between the crank and pulley to properly situate the crank pulley. Used a 1.13" long by 1-1/4" round aluminum spacer - from round bar stock a...

Lapping the valves is to remove any carbon/crud build up on the valve seat.
Exhaust port gaskets - make sure all the old ones are removed. First time I did mine, there were three gaskets in each port.
